Nice finds everyone! Now, some of you who were around last year might remember that I picked up a Mission-style Morris chair that had been partially disassembled and left in the free pile. And this is a photo I took of it once it landed in my workshop:
50748657556_8e90cc2616_c.jpg

Well, here it is today, as I finally finished the parts I can do myself:

The cushions are actually from the chair it's replacing, which you can see right behind it. That one will go upstairs into my office, for a nice place to sit and read on a lazy afternoon.

I was at a thrift store the other day with my dad and there was a massive bin of Hot Wheels from the mid 90’s to about 2015 for $0.79 each. We both already have way too many so we were being very selective on what we bought. This is what we ended up with
805FCBE5-17AC-4C92-A90D-516BC045A41B.jpegI don’t know if any of you guys are into Hot Wheels so I will explain for those who don’t know. The bottom two on the left and bottom three on the right are called treasure hunts, three of which are super treasure hunts. They are cars with special paint and rubber tires randomly put into cases of cars at the factory and are quite hard to find. In 20 years of collecting, we have only found two treasure hunts each these are the first super treasure hunts either of us have found, so we were both pretty thrilled

I was always a Matchbox kid. Growing up, I always thought that they were more realistic and ran more smoothly.

My kids are the complete opposite, they love Hot Wheels and really don't like Matchbox.

I think they have several of the ones in you group, probably not the "treasure hunt" ones, since I didn't even know that was a "thing."

Nice job on the chair. It really is a lot of work, and a labor of love!

There is a nearby small town that has a city-wide garage sale each Summer. COVID shut it down last year, but it is active this weekend. I attended Friday, and found some stuff to bring home.

Photo #1 is a pair of steel sawhorses I found at the first sale. This was an estate sale about two miles out of town at a nice house. The shop was very nice, with a 4-post lift, concrete floors, and a couple of tall Craftsman stacks. One was a "Craftsman Commercial." These sawhorses were in a side shed. The family priced them at $20.00 for the pair, which I thought was fair.
Sawhorses.jpg

Photo #2 is the rest of the Estate sale buy. $10.00 for this lot.
Estate Puller.jpg
A home-made hook that is 3 feet long. I use lighter-duty one that I made quite often to reach into or under things to retrieve items or pull a chain under something I'm going to lift.
A Craftsman 1/2 drive RHFT ratchet in nice condition
A Plomb 4011 puller with two sets of Proto jaws

Photo #3 is stuff I got from two different fund-raising sales for local programs, all at their asking prices:
Dies and Wrenches.jpg

Crane Pipe dies, 1/2" and 1" NPT
Reed die 1/2-13 NC
8 Ace 1" OD dies of various thread size
All for $1.00

Geometric-C Craftsman No. 4 Tappet wrench 3/4 x 7/8
Challenger 12mm combo
Chrome Molybdenum DBE 13/16 x 7/8
Husky CS-25 10" extension, 1/2 drive
All for $1.00

The last sale I bought things from had these larger items:
Big Wrenches.jpg
Dunlap 14" pincers. Slightly rusty but like new otherwise.
Craftsman =V= DBE 1-7/16 x 1-1/2
Long-C "CI" DBE 7/8 x 15/16
Unmarked cold chisel 17-1/2" long
Channellock 460 pliers, ugly but work well
Bonalloy DBE 2894B DBE 15/16 x 1"
Bon-E-Con DBE ZB2426 3/4 x 13/16
Bonalloy 1171 Combo 1-1/16
P&C 2734 1-1/16 Combo
P&C 2736 1-1/8 Combo

This sale also had this Long-C Auger Bit set and a lumber crayon holder. It cost me $20.00 at this sale.
Augers and Crayon Holder.jpg
The rest of the sales didn't have tools, but there were lots of toys, glassware, and clothes!

These are the best of the ratchets from the garage sale earlier this week. Does anyone recognize the 3/8-1/2" combination ratchet? It has no markings of any kind. The spike end is pretty odd for not having a hammer head. The Williams super ratchet looks pretty old, but it works fine as does the Armstrong. Also the Waldon works well but looks like it has had a hard life. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post them in the for sale section.

Well, nothing compared to some of the finds you guys have been finding.. but $1 got me a pair of stamped steel Indestro pliers with a great logo! I am getting to the point that I almost don't dig through the bins of cheap pliers anymore, but today it paid off. there is a matching logo on the other side, but they need some time in evaporust because it is nearly unreadable.20210717_113939.jpg20210717_113928.jpg

My guess it it is a spud ratchet, used for high rise iron work? Spike end to align the holes in the steel for the bolt. The hole in handle for a lanyard, so you don't drop to the street 40 stories below.

Given the drive sizes, that ratchet is too small for steel frame erection.

I suspect that it was used for a similar type of work, but on a smaller scale. Perhaps signs or something like that. It certainly was used up in the air, and for aligning parts. I don't think it was used for scaffolding, because those ratchets had a hammer head built in, and were normally 1/2" drive.

Found this box at the restore. One you don’t see too often. It was holding misc. tools. It would likely take the rest of my days, evenings, and weekends to try and fill it correctly.

2 Armstrong wrenches, small Snap-On screwdriver, Penncraft punch, a soft brush, Hinsdale combo, Mongomery Ward Master Quality short box, an early Cornwell 1/4 combo and a doe, Herbrand and Meteor offset ignitions.

Some days, you get the bear. And some days, the bear gets you. I had a few good looking stops all lined up, but after the first two, I was starting to think today would be a big zero. Not too surprising, considering the great day I had Thursday. But one always hopes for the best.

The reason I put those first stops at the head of the list is a pretty simple one, they looked the most promising from the ads. It wasn't until my third planned stop that I found anything of interest:
51318104898_6e37443382_h.jpg
An empty Lufkin box, Irwin Forstner bit, a half-full box of Hoppe's patches, and a '47 Popular Science Home Workshop annual. It was half price day, so a buck and a half.

I didn't have much hope for the last stop. The pics online weren't to encouraging, not showing much in the way of tools. Boy was I surprised when that was all that was left at the sale. And not cheap garbage either.
51317146887_9086990efd_h.jpg
A set of Plomb sockets 1/2" to 1", missing the 5/8" but with an extra 3/4 and a misc. Plomb LA, Herbrand 12" extension, Stanley **** gauge, Thorsen socket driver, and a complete Snap-on MT308KB compression tester set. Also, I picked this up at that sale:
51317900316_b1ee17f68e_h.jpg
It seems to be a holder for numbered bits, all of which have a special hex adaptor at the end. If anyone knows anything about that, I would be interested to know more. Anyway, I spent $15 at that stop, as it was also half-off day.

OK, After having my faith "Tested" in the Early run this AM, (Nada...) the garage sale gods smiled and reached out and touched me today on the late run!

One of the early TOO's wasn't open adn the other late stops were clsoe to nothing other than at a Church Rummage sale/Flea, I picked up 2 Indestro combo's and 3 near full cans of Coleman fuel: (The red cap can was from the TOO I went back to)
R1 Infest combos.jpg

R2 CF.jpg

The TOO was nearly an estate sale the family selling a lot of the elderly father's garage "stuff" He was there, and occasionally hobbling around. VERY elderly (I suspect heading for assisted living ot the daughter's home...)

I started in the yard adn it was an eclectic selection of stuff!

First thing I found was a small black book:

E1 Chap1.jpg

E1 Chap2.jpg

Note the date!

E1 Chap3.jpg

And some odds and ends the "cannon" was in the yard, the parallel jaw pliers were in the garage on the work bench. as was the bike wrench adjustable, adn who could pass up the :

E2 Cannon Sargent Bik wrench.jpg

The spinning drill isn't properly setup the rod feed through the wood handle and you wind it up and the the flywheel allows you to move the handle up and down to spin the drill, so half the time its going in reverse. A near full box of abrasive cutoffs for Demels, I believe the drilled plates are bending jigs, Jeweler's rouge, and a glass drawer pull

E4 hand drill cutting disks glass knobs jewelwere rouge bedning jigs.jpg

Grinding wheels for Dremels,:

E4 Grinding wheels.jpg

A 16" Kennedy carry box I liked and carried the stuff in:

E5 Kennedy L-16.jpg

The Plomb hatchet head was in round one after I paid and loaded I went back to see what I missed adn the Craftsman campers ax was one of three things I found:

E3 CM Ax Plumb hatchet.jpg
Next post for more in round one:

So the Blue box caught my eye in a corner of the garage. I'd been looking for lanterns or stoves to no avail, despite indications he'd been a camper, (fishing rods, tents and bed rolls...) I saw that adn said "No way!" It was siting on top id the longer box:

E6 Optimus 8-R Volcono---.jpg

WAY! An Optimus 8-R! the other I didn't recognize (Partial Name is Vulcano---?) but is a gravity feed alcohol stove not a pressure feed:

E6 Optimus 8-R Volcono---b.jpg

practically under my feet is a Coleman 413F 2 burner stove (which I passed on) Bu was moving things and digging down there when I see the top of this peaking out!

EE7a 242Ca.jpg

I recognize that vent as a 242 or variant and its a 242 C from May of 1948!

It's VERY clean and if the little bit of rust on the bottom hasn't bit through, it should be a god runner! the Vent Appears to be pristine under the layered dust (VERY Rare!) I think I'm in luck as when I popped the fuel cap, it had a little pressure still (probably decades since last used)

EE7a 242Cb.jpg

this was also where the Coleman fuel can was - I keep digging and this pops up:

E7 M1942-a.jpg

Inside is a nice looking M-1942 army stove!

E7 M1942-b.jpg

This French made catalytic heater was down there as well:

E8 Herms Heater-France.jpg

And his box, which unfortunately was empty: (but I have a coupe so I grabbed it)

E7c 502 Box.jpg

and this Box which was NOT empty!

E7d HD Box.jpg

Its a heat drum for a 502:

E7d HD.jpg

More to come!

Nice backpacking stoves, Outlaw. I just sent off my Optimus and SVEA stoves to my old backpacking partner, as it was his 51st b-day and I can't really pack anymore, sadly. But there is no way I am getting rid of my PEAK1. That thing has done more miles with me and been on more mountaintops that I care to think about.

I also found this jack and as by now I had a pile going, I tossed this into the mix: a Walker 1 ton jack: (1920's? :dunno: )

E9 Walker Jack.jpg

And this, a 750# Dayton 12V winch:

E10 Dayton winch 750.jpg

On the second pass I mentioned the Craftsman Ax, I also grabbed this LP Coleman 5120 lantern:

E7b CM 5120.jpg

And this NICE Stanley No. 71 plane, in a box (home made? he had a LOT of wood boxed - very finely crafted for the most part)

OK, it's official. Outlaw, YOU ****!

Seriously, that Stanley 71 is early, which you can tell from the japaning. The box isn't what it came in, but is nice anyway. And to have the router bits is double nice.

Way back in 2019 I picked-up one of these ratchets in some tools I got at the flea market.
I looked it up and at the time I found it at Tractor Supply (Job Smart) it was orange and black swirl paint (looked hydro dipped) and it sold for $9.99 so I thought it was O.K. as a cheap ratchet.
They were sold as farm ratchets (for repairs of fences, tractors, equip, etc)
I tried to find it on-line again but they must have discontinued it and all the ones available now are $20-$30 bucks or more
SHH2.jpgSHH7.jpg

I found a pic of the orange and black one on reddit

Took a day to go out and hit some GS. We haven’t made a day of it in a long time. One of our local sites was setting up Friday, so we started there. Turns out it wasn’t the normal guy, but someone very disorganized and wanting about 4x the $$. Picked up some nifty Vlcheck wrenches, and an odd open and and hex stud bent wrench, a rusted solid C Clamp. He wanted more for those items than I would pay for the whole lot, so I walked.

Headed over the hill to a community garage sale event, and was mostly disappointed too. Flagged a few sales with tools, but nothing was worth the effort of fighting all the amateurs & tourists.

Finally hit a few small ones, one was an estate sale from an ex plumber, another a guy cleaning out his storage, and a guy liberating tools after several home improvement projects.

the mixed set of Xcelite drivers and Craftsman drivers was a fun find, he had accumulated them over a few years. One needs a lot of cleanup, others seem to have a fuzzy coating, will be asking about them in the dedicated thread. The Irwin Forstner bits came with them.

The pliers tools all came from one source, didn’t notice the vise grip was missing the swivel pads, but did look for Made in USA.

The Flotec pump, file holder, putty knife and razor blades all came from the plumber. Some guy went into the roll off out front, and retrieved two oil cans and a bottle jack, he had good eyes. The 3/8” air hose, unused, was the only thing from the community sale.

The Bonaloy out front is a 15/16 and 1”, the needle nose are Crestoloy, and the water pumps look like Champion channelocks

Outlaw,
That's a nice "you ****" collection of gas camping equipment!

I only scored a few items. The block grinder was $5, the Sure Shot sprayer was $2. The leather Chamois, nutdriver and screwdriver sets were all from free piles.P1090443.jpg

Even if only 1/4 HP, I think Dave earned a Usuck on both!

Thanks Guys! I'm still grinning ear to ear, and planning on going back today if open. - it was that kind of place...

That is some ********* gloatable finds. And displaying them on an old cast aluminum workmut is just twisting the knife.
