If there's lucky, fu*#ing lucky, and fu*#ing so-ridiculous-you-can't-make-this-up lucky, my flea haul today (Lugz 20201_72) has a find that demonstrates the latter.

20211119_091203.jpg

If you don't recall my Oct 28th haul (Lugz 2021_67), let me refresh your memory. It included six (6) Plomb Pebble combos from 1/2 to 7/8. Linked here if you need a visual. I just found five (5) more Plomb Pebble combos, from 15/16 to 1-3/8! Two different lots. Not a dupe between them. At two different flea markets on opposite sides of the state! The first lot was near mint. These will require Evaporust and some prayers.

The Waldes-Truarc convertible (internal and external) snap-ring pliers are a condition upgrade.

Classic Bright-Star has a cool extra thick planoconvex ("walleye" or "bullseye") glass lens.

German leather belt pouch (knife, small pliers) is empty.

No name wrench rack will be put into immediate action in the Lugzsonian's overcrowded wrench set display barrister. I could use several more!

Dag gone Lugz, you'll have me wanting to take a vacation to come to the fleas in your area.

On a side note to you from our last back & forth here (not to sidetrack the thread momentum), I recently pulled the trigger on 2 "E" dated midget pieces that popped up on the auction site. I'll post them when they arrive. I had to pay up a little, but for these pieces I figured I'd "buy it when I see it".

Lugz, I trust you bought a lottery ticket on the drive home
Haha. I did not. And I also drove mindlessly right past the Tractor Supply, forgetting I need more Evaporust.

These aren't uncommon, and they grow on trees in the PNW, but it's just bizarre to one fell swoop this many, twice, two weeks apart, and have no dupes.

You'd be surprised how many DE, MD, PA, NY, CT, and even VT plates we get. The fleas have always been famous here. Original industrial state with the highest population density (1,200 people per square mile) and a lot of style and attitude will do that. That's alot of houses and garages with antique and vintage stuff in them.

Here are the rest of today’s finds at two estate sales. The first sale was in Kensington, CA. about 10 minutes from home.0AE0BDF8-7AB7-4FDD-9A34-65523697B1CF.jpeg

TOGA! TOGA! TOGA! TOGA!

I wasn't going to even leave the house today, but I need to head to the hardware store, so I figured I would see what was out there. And there were a couple of sales that looked interesting, but while I normally do this by what sounds the best, and work my way in as much as I can, today I arranged things by what started first. And, I got lucky.

That first sale, which only listed tools as an afterthought, was for an elderly British man retiring to a rest home. And I purchased as much of his old tools as I could afford, as they weren't cheap. Great condition, but not cheap. Toga bit brace, Spear and Jackson backsaw in original envelope, and a British box of British brace bits. Sadly not a complete set, but all in great condition. I am a bit of an Anglophile, so these were a nice surprise.

The next stop was a zero, which was sad as the pics looked really good, and after that, I hit a farm sale. Here I picked up a farmers transit, Bonney refer rat, P&C DBE, and a leather punch. The last two items, a Toyota driver and crossbar, came from the nearby Resore.

Sales seem pretty good still but with the holidays and winter coming sure to be a big slowdown. Pick-ups over probably the last 3 to 4 weekends.

Estate sale with an early start last evening after work at 5:00pm. Master Mechanic USA 3/8 flex-head ratchet which is really nice. Never seen one before. Craftsman made in France long reach pliers. Proto and Williams soft face hammers. Bonney SAE Whitworth wrench set.

Plomb DBE wrench set which was quite surprised to see in this area. Smallest two wrenches were picked up from member ForrestT. Also surprised to see at the sale two Plomb socket sets one each in 3/8 & 1/2 but didn't pick them up since they were really a mishmash given the number of years old.

Snap-On 1/2" drive SAE impact sockets, Snap-On 3/8 drive SAE universal sockets, Snap-on and Mac wrenches, Diamond Handiman wrench.

Craftsman and Armstrong 3/8 flex-head ratchets.

Bunch of Vulcan SAE stuff

I guess it was Plomb day on the right coast!
Well done on your Plomb scores also (y). Very rarely see them around here but for whatever reason like you I have picked them up twice in say the last two months but unlike you I ended up with some doubles........oh well. Incredible that you didn't end up with any doubles.

Estate sale this morning. The Snap-on 1/2 dr set wasn’t complete but I had the missing sockets available to make a full set. Already cleaned & greased the ratchets, they work great. The dial caliper is a Mitituyo. I haven’t had a chance to sort through and clean up the 3/4dr sockets yet.

Last time I visited friends in North Haledon it cost me about $40 in tolls, one way. Plus hotel and gas. I’m guessing my initial investment to attend a weekend would start at about $300.

Posting my LEFT-BEHINDS before I hit the hay.

Pic 1: Dreier "Double Hac-Saw". If you've never seen one before, that knurled knob loosens the blades. I wanted it badly, but not for $60.
Pic 2: For you plane guys, a Stanley in original box with paperwork. Not my thing.
Pic 3: Field bench for model airplanes with Academy of Model Aeronautics stickers. Cool, but not my thing.

Lugz The Stanley looks like a No 45 combination plane. I can't see if all the parts are there for the plane. Mind sharing what the seller was asking for it?

WNY Nice pick on those Plomb wrenches. You and Lugz both ****!

AND NOW, A WORD FROM OUR SPONSOR.

Well, not really our sponsor, but now that I have your attention, I would ask that everyone think about who you feel is the picker of the year, and who should be thread host next year. I have only heard back about the first question from two people, so I could use a lot more feedback. And, as I haven't heard back anything regarding the second question, please let me know if you are interested or have any questions on that topic!

This will be great good fun over the Thanksgiving holiday that is fast approaching. So, after the bird has been finished, and you are mellowing over your second piece of pumpkin pie, take a slow gander through the pages of the Garage Sale 2021 thread, and see what catches your eyes. Most posts? Biggest single score? Consistency finding the good stuff? Send them all to me!

Do you think JoeBob Briggs should run the thread next year? Do you think you have what it takes? Through those hats in the ring!

And, please, try to get this to me by December 1st. I need to get a pole up and let everyone get a chance to vote.

no sales today but did stop at a pawn shop and the ReStore
Got some Craftsman and one Proto socket and a Snap-on prybar from the pawn shop. The Bell System flathead, stakon connectors, and small adjustable are from the ReStore. Cannot read the makers mark on this side of the wrench, the other side says JAMESTOWN NY.

“Wm Hjorth” shows up in google books from 1895 -1921, at least. Some may not be tool related.
That seems early for an adjustable wrench, but I’m not sure when it was patented, etc.

DAT has the following:
DRILLS,PLIERS,WRENCHES
Text InfoHjorth patented, and apparently made, a wrench (15 Dec. 1896) and a drill (11 June 1896; invalid date). By 1903, he had added "& Co." to his name and was making a 8 Sept. 1903 patent "wrench-like" pliers.

wiped it down a bit, looks like WM HJORTH & CO
Notable for a few things, including a very early lever action adjustable or pliers type wrench called THE LIGHTNING, for employing Mr Petersen, who would leave to start Crescent, and for having the same last name as B.A. Hjorth, of B.A. Hjorth Company, which you may recognize better by the acronym BAHCO!

They made these crescent style adjustables much later, probably late teens, probably with no small sense of chagrin.

Nice find!

I know 3bay has one. So you're in rare company. :)

When the temps start to drop (40*F this morning) so do the number of sellers and buyers to wade through! Today's thirty minute small haul (Lugz 2021_73)...

20211121_103653.jpg
...includes a KD lifter I don't have in my collection, a wartime ("HI-TENSILE") Armstrong DBE, a buggy wrench, two PLVMB wrenches, 3 pieces of a 4-IN-1 nested screwdriver set that will help me complete one, and last but not least, something to test my twelve years of Catholic school (the classic 1960 Latin version of Winnie the Pooh), and a 4th Edition (1939) of the 1925 Naval Leadership.

$21 at Jake’s this morning. Best deal is the two PlieRenches, couple extra jaws & pouch. I may have screwed up a little on that, so excited, I failed to look through the bin for the tube-holding clip, of which I still own zero.
The Jeep manual is copyright 1948.

That has to be collectible.
The book is quite famous among bibliophiles, 'Cuda. The author was teaching English in Sao Paolo, Brazil when he wrote it, inspired by an earlier posting where he tutored a young turk in Latin with the original A.A. Milne. The first dozen copies were self-published as a lark in 1958, but the privately distributed copies soon reached a shrewd desk at Dutton in 1960, who recognized the entertaining potential. It was actually the first foreign language book to ever reach the New York Times Bestsellers list.

Found this on the curb for free today. Has a very old repair but still seems quite usable!

Sadly, there is no W in Latin. But! V is pronounced like we currently use the W. So, Vinnie the Pooh.

But, that did make me realize I forgot to put up my book finds this week:

Some original locomotive repair, operation, electrical and such books. What! An old guy can still like trains!
