Great photo LS!

congrats to LS and OR! Can’t believe another year in the books.

Did the two flea market tour today. Places were packed but many vendors mia. Still plenty of tools.

The day’s random assortment.

A good bit of Snap On and Blue Point. S-K, Duro, Bonney, Craftsman, Matco, Plomb, Armstrong, Urrea, Proto, Klein, and others.

Good day for ratchets. One of those unmarked made by Bonney with a W in a circle and 1-2 forge markings, and another unmarked made by Walden.

Other items of interest: A nice Plomb PWA socket, several Bell and NY telephone stamped pliers and wrenches, a Fairmount single open end stamped USN, a Danielson 6” pipe wrench, copper coated alligator wrench

last two pics show the Bell stamps on a Herbrand tappet wrench.

Sweet haul! Another of those W in a circle with 1-2 Bonneys. Im seeing a few of those rescently. I wonder who Bonney made them for as I've searched and searched to no avail!
I've also got a few of those NY Tel marked tools from my grandfather which are pretty old.

LessorSon, what was that socket set? Ray?
Mostly Ray. 4 unmarked, plus 2 Mossbergs and a Larson. I haven’t fully inventoried to see what gaps. The box doesn’t seem to have any remaining identification. There was a rotted piece of leather loose in the bottom, maybe to keep soaked with oil?
E2EC6A8C-0AC2-41C2-B4E8-158A321E6A8B.jpeg
Three are damaged - one suffered further in an attempted repair by brazing.

EDIT - checked AA site - metal box matches their approx 2x6x11” dimensions. Looks like this is the No31 set, missing the ratchet & plug, double-ended offset screwdriver, and 17/32sq; 29/32sparkplug; 13/32, 11/16, 23/32, 29/32, 15/16, 1”, 1-5/32 hex sockets. The leather strip is original, so I’ll clean as best I can.
(EDITEDIT - No, I won’t. On closer inspection, the “leather” is, I think, asbestos. If it didn’t tear so easily, I might keep it for completeness, but it’s too fragile. Back in the trash.)
The AA set also has no visible decal.

The one I have has a decal on the inside of the lid. Happy to look thru the spares pile and see if I have the ones you need. I am planning on listing a ton of extra stuff that has been laying around, so let me know. I don't think I have an extra RAY ratchet, but do have some Mossberg/etc that should fit.

I would love to finish out the set I have with all RAY sockets, but at this point, not worth paying the premium for a relatively unknown set, that isn't really going to be used much at all.

I thought it looked familiar. I too have a RAY without the inside decal. In fact, there was someone at the estate sale before me who passed on it as he couldn't make out who made it, although he hoovered up several SK sets...

Among GS threadsters, Outlaw also has that same Ray set. If you want to identify more possibilities for exchanges, we do have a few Packer Auto threads with several more. I'm pretty sure the thread I put in the Sticky index has a post with links to the others.

But wait: the year’s not over!
I had a 1:45 drive to a “local” pickup eBay item this morning, which put me so close to Columbia PA, I just had to stop at Bootleg Antiques. Mrs LS kindly took this pig in sh1t photo at the best booth. AB9F5079-B62E-41F9-ACB5-29E10559C81A.jpeg
I have spent a good amount of time standing in that very spot looking in wonderment at everything.

It's a 3:30 run from here but we hit Columbia and the surrounding area several times a year.

Cheers

I am excited to have something to post before the end of the year. It was a bit of a roller coaster ride since I spotted it yesterday evening on CL to getting over to the guy's blacksmith shop and buying it this morning - Wilton bullet vise with 4.5" jaws. He posted the CL ad with the vise sitting on the swivel base minus any swivel locks. Well, turned out it is also missing the inner ring. Was still worth the asking price as a non-swivel vise and the free trailer mount was icing on the cake. One end of the handle has some significant pitting and there's a pinky nail sized chip on the body unseen in the pic. Not seized up. Great guy, enjoyed the visit and seeing his working shop full of old blacksmithing tools, anvils, vises and such. Very creative guy and fair seller. He tried to find the inner ring this morning but no luck. Found another vise base which he threw in with the vise.

There was a pop-up estate sale a short drive out of town today and I figured arriving a half-hour prior would put me close to the front of the line. As is turned out there were about 20 people in front of me. They opened the gate at the appointed time and it was like the Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889!

I was interested in mainly one thing--the contents of this Test-Rite top box. Obviously a lot of S-K visible including the case peeking out of the bottom drawer.

27 Dec 21.jpg

Well, I got there right after a guy who was hunched over it like it contained the last bag of Doritos in the supermarket before the Superbowl. I waited patiently as, in the words of Beemer, "he hoovered up several SK sets". He then sent his son to look for a box because he couldn't carry it all and was not about to move from his spot without every last socket. I have to admit, if my laser vision wasn't on the fritz, I would have burned his spine into slag. When he finally waddled off, I had to point out to a guy on my right that I was there before him. Then, when I started looking through the leavings, a guy on my left stuck his pudgy paw right into the drawer I was going over and I reflexively smacked it and said "Don't do that." Yeah, but... "Don't Do That."

What was left was most of two S-K Combo sets, one SAE (No. 1713) and one metric (No. 1815).
The 1713 is missing the C-16, C-14 & C-10 while the 1815 is missing the 21, 10, 9 & 8mm.

27 Dec 21b.jpg

Sitting unmolested on one of the tables was the Fleet 1/4d set. I can't find any Penens catalogs with Fleet, but Challenger has the same numbers on their sets so I think this is a 2303-A, 15 piece set. This one is missing sockets 1007 & 1010 (replaced with the 12pt 1010T), has an extra 1011 and a T1066 6" ext from Tru-Test.

27 Dec 21c.jpg

The 5" Klein Electrician Scissors (2100-5) and sheath look brand new.

27 Dec 21d.jpg

Rounded out the day with a no-name wrench clip and three bore brushes (aka: socket reamers). Total $26+tax.

27 Dec 21a.jpg

Although it's not a garage sale item, I thought I would share the leather shop apron Mrs. Radar surprised me with for Christmas.

Here's the rest of the stuff I got with that cool cobbler's hammer.

Some really nice bits for my toolbox, and a nice set of Snap-On crowsfeet to sell to cover costs and gas.

Loving the elevated language, OR!

Very nice. But that would be Mrs Lugz's way of telling me she's tired of trying to get all the stains out of my clothes. :)

This is also a good image for next year's host. Your expression is one of friendliness and welcome, and the apron says, "let's get to work," but your posture is saying "Don't mess with this thread. You will get a slap on the wrist. And I do have hammers!"

Thanks Lugz! I see your spook background is still honed to a fine edge when it comes to analyzing and correctly interpreting collected data!

Nice haul OR! I really like that little Fleet set! Can't believe a guy would just reach into a drawer like that, especially after you were waiting for your turn. I mean seriously, who thinks to themselves "It's ok for me to do this"???

Bid on some super chucks in a local auction the other day and got these nine for $51. Eight are Super chucks of which seven are 5/8" and one is 1/2". They all had taper shanks and I removed the ones I could. The rest are essentially welded in place.

Best item, though, was priced beyond my interest.

But I did find some things I was willing to pay for:

I was there this past summer while my wife attended a baby shower in the area. Most of those items were out of my price range but I did scoop up some other deals in a few of the nearby shops.

My final picks of the year.

I have been looking for a nice 3/4” ratchet for awhile now and finally found this craftsman one advertised on Craigslist.
Turns out the guy only lives about a mile from me so I shot over and ended up picking up some metric wrenches as well to fill in my sets. The wrenches and the ratchet all look to have been used very little.
$45 for everything.
3EA5F83A-175C-44B5-BB5A-3342477A5C8A.jpeg

The other group of ratchets and extensions was a marketplace find for $30+ shipping.

Unmarked plomb?? 1/2” drive
SK 1/2” 42470
Two Husky Cb-45 3/8”
Craftsman 3/8” ratchet and breaker bar
Husky 1/2” ext
Fleet 1/2” speeder
some other unmarked ratchets and extensions for the junk pile.
Plus a bonus battery terminal cleaner 6C1B6EA4-F892-4E9B-B965-7CC74ECC95B6.jpeg

You guys are wrapping up the year nicely.

Also, can I get a ruling from the Jury? I have purchased some goodies from the auction site (yesterday) and will surely not see them in my possession until next year. Do I post them here when I receive them or in the upcoming 2022 thread? I'm good with either way, I just do not want to breach etiquette.

I'll field that question! You'll see in my opening write-up on the 2022 thread when I post it tomorrow that it is not necessary--and sometimes not preferable--to post a find the moment you acquire it. Since your purchase is in this year but you won't receive it until the new year, simply state that on the 2022 thread and go on with your write-up and photos. It's really no different than coming home with your new find and having SWMBO hit you with a hot honey-do list--we'd rather you took your time and gave us an interesting report a few days later than just post up something in a rush without photos--or equally meh, just photos and no story.

Wow, I'm late to the Post Elections Party! This thread manged to get dropped from my Email so I was a couple of PAGES behind! (9 days to be exact...)

Belated congrats to LS, and commiseration to OR! Seriously OR, you will have fun being the host and I know do a great job! I agree with Lugz though, that leather apron pic needs to be in the 2022 welcome post!

BMW what can I say? You will soon join the ranks of "Host Emeritus". You did a grand job of it, and can now relax in retirement!

I can't believe you guys are sill finding places to get new scores from! Its been completely dead here for 2 weeks and nothing in sight! (I suspect a combo of LOTS OF RAIN, adn the holidays...) How dead is it you ask? NO sales at all! even down by my mom is dead...

Not the typical find. I was presented a gift of one of the wrenches on Christmas day. MrsLS was shopping with the LesserDaughters in Philly, and spotted them.
