Not a bad deal

HD, as well as others, have the Fuel kit down to $199 with a free battery or tool. Looks like HD site is only doing the 2.5ah HO battery right now, but Acme has other choices. Nonetheless, the breakdown in the cart brings the Fuel Kit to $143.
While many don't need the latest and greatest, the $99 brushed kit are relatively quite old, but it's the 1.5ah batteries that really make me want to upgrade.

Ace won't even honor Craftsman hand tool warranty anymore either.

That doesn’t seem like a fair criticism. Sears owned Craftsman and dictated the warranty terms and decided which bucket those warranty costs went to. Ace is a Craftsman retailer, but doesn’t control Craftsman’s warranty policy. If Craftsman supported reimbursement of warranty items for Ace they would probably be glad to get people in the door for warranty exchanges. My guess is that there isn’t any support for Sears Craftsman tools by the “new” Craftsman so Ace doesn’t want to eat the unsupported cost.

ACE stores are independently owned franchises, so just because one ACE doesn’t accept warranty or coupons, that doesn’t make it a corporate policy for all stores.

My experience with one of our small town ACE stores is that they are sometimes unfamiliar with the items in the flyer. They explained that the flyer is sent out by corporate, and, being a small store, they sometimes don’t even handle some of the promoted items.

They’re willing to order, though!

Per https://www.craftsman.com/support/warranty:

...Return damaged product to a stocking Retail Partner or contact Customer Care..."

Ace is a stocking retail store, no? I tried to exchange two sockets and Ace wouldn't do it and told me to do it on the website. Lowe's will honor Craftsman warranty unfortunately the closest two stores do not have the exact sockets I need (which Ace had). This could just be my local store but from the above Warranty rules, Ace should be covering warranty replacement or they shouldn't have taken on one of the oldest and most recognizable brands with lifetime warranties.

Warranty stuff aside, I find their prices to be higher than online and other stores like Menards, Home Depot, etc. I don’t go to ACE much at all. I unfortunately had to go there in an emergency earlier this year and I paid $40 for some basic jumper cables. I can get the same cables for a third of that elsewhere.
I don’t know what their target market is.

^^ Yup! Wife and I were at the local Ace one spring and ran into a former co-worker. Said her lawn mower wouldn't start, so she pushed it to the curb and went to buy a new one. The Ace guys set up her new mower, showed her how to put oil and gas in it, start it and do general maintenance. Then helped her load it into her hatchback. You pay more, but they take care of you.

Yes!! Good!
Then guy's like us get lucky and find the mower @ the curb, put a plug and air filter in it, and we have a free mower for the next 10 years or so.

Email or call customer service before you return to that store. TCorporate will then contact the store and remind them of their contract obligations.

You can always ask customer service for a gift card for the replacement costs of those craftman tools. Explain you will no longer be shopping at the Ace location that denied you replacement.

I got the runaround on a warranty for an old craftsman tool from both Ace and Lowes. I ended up contacting Craftsman directly and they took care of it without any fuss.
