Picked up these wrenches today.
Proto 1-3/4 combo, Williams 1-7/8 hammer wrench, and Reed valve opener wrench. Paid $1 each!! The guy was retiring. Also got loads of FR jeans and shirts.
Also, this wrist-breaker B&D grinder. $5. He said he never wants to pick up that grinder again.

Yet another interwebz purchase to add to my set building. Blue Point Supreme S2224 DOE 11/16”x 3/4”. This one is a little rough, but price was right.

I probably paid too much for it, $80 with the tools in it. The heritage rollers are hard to find around here (at least for less than $3-400) and I have a matching top box so I decided to buy it. Now I'm realizing how much work it's going to be and thinking maybe I should have just paid up for a clean one!

@gearhead1960 the black handle screwdrivers are Harbor Freight which is why they're in the goodwill box. I can't quote your message for some reason.

Saukit, I think the one screwdriver is an older straight handle Snap on. The one on top middle right that is phillips head and has hex shank at base of handle.

Found a few good sales this weekend.
Grabbed a handful of soldering irons, a Bergman Buffalo adjustable,
unknown ax head and tenon cutter, small brass fire extinguisher, cast iron pot (for lead?),
2 valve seat grinders and a wood cased time clock. Also picked up a couple of wood boxes, 2 old door handles (purpleish color), a Union hacksaw frame and a hand made cross with brass inlay, very neat. And a neat quick release(I believe) wood clamp, no name with Pat Feb 3 81(?).

@saukit I have the complete Snap-on set of these handles with the hex base. Always looking for more as the ones on ebay are always too much money. No issue if it's found a new home at Goodwill.
I’ve got it mostly torn down for a thorough cleaning. There are a few corner tears that may need tacking. Since the big decal is completely gone, the remaining paint is the only original surface worth consideration. I may repaint in the summer. A restoration won’t be any time soon, and I’ll stow as much of a Bonney 72-pc AM36B tool set as I can field in the meantime.
Here are a few more pics, I can't find a logo on the handle, if there was one it's worn off. The only mark is on the shank, which I missed the first time as I just figured it was a more well worn version of the HF drivers. If it is a Snap on I'll send it to gearhead!
Got out to some sales today for what felt like the first time in forever. We finally got some decent weather and there were actually a few CL sales that listed tools. First stop of the day was a bust, as was the second. Drove to the third sale which was a pro run estate sale and it looked like there were about 30 people in line (house already full) so I left without getting out of the car.
Got to the 4th sale of the morning about 15-20 minutes before opening time and the horde had already stormed the castle (not pro run) and the sale was in full swing. I waited my turn to go through a couple of boxes and managed to find a batch of wrenches and a few sockets, took it up to the gal running the thing and she barely looked in the bag - I offered 10 bucks and she took it, probably should have offered less but I didn't want to lowball.
I browsed around a bit more just to make sure I didn't miss anything and I noticed that one of the regulars was going through a couple of sheds, so I took a look. Found a very neglected tool box full of junk and a few really rusty tools. However the drawers operated smoothly and the box didn't seem to be in bad shape. Pulled the lid down and found this:
At that point I had to have it so I offloaded most of the junk in it other than a few pieces I wanted and carried it back to the main house. Got the same "What do you want to pay for it" from the gal running things and I offered $20, which again was probably too high, I'm sure she would have taken $10. Oh well though, I'm happy!
I dumped all the wrenches I bought earlier into the top to take it home, here's a pic of the mess:
And a few of the highlights, the ratchet and screwdriver both look Plomb to me but I can't find any marks.
I'm pretty excited about the Plomb/Proto marked DOE, I just saw the pebbles and grabbed it, didn't realize what it was until I was taking pics. The big sockets are Circle H
After I got all this stuff in the car I headed back to the estate sale that I had skipped earlier. This time I got in without much of a wait. There wasn't much I wanted and it was expensive, but I opted to pay $20 for a nice little Giller 1/4" set and a perfect handle Irwin with the Govt stock number on it. If I'm not mistaken this is a GMTK tool. The New Britain set came from an antique mall yesterday for $15.
Made two more stops but nothing really photo worthy. Bought a bunch of VV and VA craftsman combos for less than a buck a wrench to help fill out sets, then drove north for one last sale. All of the tools were junk, but I probably wouldn't have bought anything even if there was something I wanted as there were two Karens up at the register looking up everything on eBay or even worse, the hardware store. Some poor guy was trying to buy a roll of joint tape, they wanted to charge him 50 bucks and were waving the phone listing around

Nice snag. I like those wood-handled square-shank spinners. Early.
The GMTK did have an 11" and 15" heavy duty integral handle screwdriver (i.e., "perfect handle" type), but those 11" jobbies with that marking were made for 1949-51 M38 jeep production toolkits. You'll see them advertised as wartime, just because they've been sold like that for so long.

The next stop was a clear-out from a sale held last weekend, and I didn't stay too long as I needed a bathroom badly at this point of coffee drinking. But I found a few things:

The last stop wasn't tool related, but I like the company running things and there were some interesting pictures of books.
So, I bought books.
a pair of vintage magazines, from '29 and '07, and a pair of older books on mountaineering, along with a nice (and valuable!) book on, well, ****.
a nice copy of August 1914, along with three more vintage mountaineering books.
And, I also picked up a 1938 Erector set. For a very good price this time.

@saukit You might be right about this being a HF screw driver. The hex part of the shaft was the part that gave me the false lead. Definitely, not as nicely made as the Snap-on. Also, the Snap-On won't have the "chrome-vanadium" stamp on it. I'm posting a couple of pics of the SO handles I have as a final comparison. Thanks for your troubles to settle this.....Here are a few more pics, I can't find a logo on the handle, if there was one it's worn off. That looks like a pretty good COPY of a Snap on. My apologies. Usually even on worn handles you can still make out the stamp and I’ve never seen the chrome vanadium stamp on a Snap on shaft.Here are a few more pics, I can't find a logo on the handle, if there was one it's worn off. The inlaws are in town so I was out late swimming at the place they rented. Came home and made myself a good really late dinner, then never made it to bed. I woke on the couch early this morning with all the lights and tv on, fully dressed, and even forgot the dog outside. Luckily she loves the cooled down temps..
I remembered a guy telling me he was bringing some tools to the flea market this week, so seeing as I was already dressed...
Well, I didn’t even think about the weather. I hopped in the car and noticed the sky seemed quite ominous with a narrow black band overhead.
Got there at 7:15 and the place was quiet. I headed straight for the vendor who promised lots of tools this week. There he was, setting up, with baby toys and household. He goes, I didn’t bring the tools in case it rains. Then we both agreed it might pass us by.
NOT!
I went to one of the regulars vendor booths. The palm trees were starting to shake in the distance. Uh oh. I found some goodies and he gave me fair prices. Then my phone went off. About four heads turned and looked at me. Tornado warning! Awww shoot! I quickly texted my wife and my mother.
I was only there 10 minutes and the rains were starting. Everyone began tarping up. There weren’t many vendors or customers so I made my way further and saw another tool table. Had just enough time to make a quick purchase as these guys tarped up too. I always feel darn bad for people setting up on days like this because I‘ve been through that myself.
Got a second tornado warning as I stopped for gas. We got a mega downpour of rain the last few hours and just a little lightning, but it’s calmed to light rain now.
Anyway, here are the finds. For only hitting two tool tables and spending a grand total of maybe 15 minutes out there I‘m pretty happy.
A nice S-K 1/2” dr 1-1/2 impact socket, a few Snap-On pieces, Williams 3/8 spinner wheel and small open end wrenches. Duro 1/4 extension and D-I deep socket, International Harvester wrench, 3 Barcalo wrenches, Proto Drag link, and a nice wide opening Diamond adjustable.
Got all from the first tool guy except the spinner and drag link.

My guess is it’s allied tools. Saw a set the other day in the habitat store. All stamped cv on the shanks. I too was hoping snap on, but then had the big let down once I picked one of them up!!!

Comment about the SO driver knock offs - just because you found one in a pile that was not SO, does not mean there won't be a real SO hiding in the mix. I've scored several by making sure...
Well now I'm kinda disappointed, I was hoping gearhead was going to get a free Snap on driver out of this! Thanks for chiming in, and please do so in the future when I try to throw something worth keeping away, cause that will definitely happen

The pics gearhead posted are helpful because the bottom of the handle is triangular and not square, which should help for a quick ID. Previously I didn't know about the hex at the base either so that is also good info moving forward.

Habit restore finds today. Stanley made in USA mini hacksaw with busted blade was .50. Saw a brand new craftsman hacksaw blade there too. No tag. Went to check out and said I’ll give you .50 for new hacksaw blade. The guy chuckled and said give me a buck. They’re yours.

I have both. They sadly discontinued the trilobe years ago. I find them to be the most comfortable handles so always look for them, but since I’m such a Cheapskate, don’t want to pay a lot for them….

Saukit (and to whom it may concern), here are a few pictures for further reference. Half of my screwdrivers were flea/yard sale and the others, including the pry bar set, I bought new probably 30+ years ago. You can see that even very worn you can identify them. The one you can’t see you can actually see up close with light. I had probably another 1/2 dozen or so that my snappy guy replaced with brand spankin new ones for one reason or another
All my original ones earned their keep over many years of full time mechanic abuse, I was not kind to them.

The ratchet is plomb and the screwdriver with faint blue traces of paint is craftsman long c era. Nice haul on that uncommon otc box! You ****!
Thanks Smoke! I'll post the box on the vintage tool boxes thread once I can find out a bit more about it and get it cleaned up. I have had no luck finding it on ITCL, the logo is the same as the catalogs that were published post war but the illustrations in those catalogs show not only a different logo on the box but different drawer pulls.
If I had to guess I'd think it's 50's but we'll see what else I can dig up.
I was buying those black SO screwdrivers enthusiastically as I’d find them, until I wiped a particularly gross one down with a disinfecting cloth (Lysol or Clorox brand - I don’t recall, and they are different). The handle crumbled and fell apart. This cannot be, I thought, so wiped down a second one. Same effect.

@3baygarage That's a crazy story, glad you're OK and got a few things at least. I heard about the tornado warnings down there on the Boston (MA) area news this morning, apparently it's all part of the mess heading our way tonight and tomorrow (wind, snow, ice, rain).

I went to one sale close by - 6 LED bulbs for small base candelabra,, and a couple of decks of new cads I'll give to my mom.
BUT the waiting finally ended after lunch! the Porta-Show finally was delivered, and they DIDN'T manage to shatter the carry case with rough handling (my one big worry...)
This is about the size of a portable sewing machine, maybe a little bigger, but not much.
What it came with - for the major pieces it's all there, only parts missing are the wrench for taking the chuck off, (pin spanner - I probably have one...) and the extended chuck key (I can modify one -I'm positive I have a spare...)
Other incidentals missing are the instructions/other paperwork, the drill bits; both spade and HHS, countersink, 1" drum sander, and a router/shaper bit. (Ii's weakest use according tot he 1962 Pop Science article) I Alos Separately ordered that copy of the Pop Science Article. All these I have better...
Mostly its clean - the drill body is grimy, and the jig saw adapter, the rest looks unused or barely used.

Many years ago I had a Taiwanese clone of a ShopSmith that I thought would be the perfect solution to a limited space garage. I found that for most projects, there was simply no way to maximize use of a single tool configuration before re-configuring for the next required tool. For example, making all the table saw cuts then moving to the drill press or sander. You do what you have to do when you're space limited, but I didn't get much enjoyment out of it.
Many years ago I had a Taiwanese clone of a ShopSmith that I thought would be the perfect solution to a limited space garage. I found that for most projects, there was simply no way to maximize use of a single tool configuration before re-configuring for the next required tool. For example, making all the table saw cuts then moving to the drill press or sander. I found I was spending most of my time re-configuring and re-setting the machine instead of making actual headway on my project. You do what you have to do when you're space limited, but I didn't get much enjoyment out of it.

I'm not expecting this to be a full project tool unless the project is away from my other tools, but I loved the idea that I could take it with me and do some work. Much of the woodwork I do tends to be small projects, so it sort of fits that track. at only 1/2HP I can probably run it off an inverter, and they actually had some sort of converter(s) for working off a 12V or 6V battery, and the work time didn't seem too bad, actually.
