TX, Numbering the pics might help for ID responses!

But Wow, that is... Well I'm thinking basketball sucked through a garden hose. To heck with those mere golf balls!

Almost embarrassed to post the NOS Outlaw racing patch I picked up off the bay...

Thanks guys! Just lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

glenmore You **** on the Proto puller for $0.50! I don't know what the grid thing is but I'm wondering if any surface plates would have that for some reason?

Lugz Great to know the Signal Corps case is wartime. When I finish The Greater Journey by David McCullough I'm going to read the PM books and The Boy Mechanic. Gonna call Forestry Suppliers Inc tomorrow to inquire about the bag. It's gonna kill me if I can't keep that storage piece!

3bay Thanks! A watchmaker's staking set! Now that you say that I recall seeing one of these at an estate sale a couple of years ago. The metal base thing in the center is also broken at the top. I'll have to consider ways to repurpose that box. Seems like it could have some cool unique uses.

Anyone know the logos/trademarks on the magneto magnet covers?
I have not identified the name, Mike, but I have noted on the Vise Mega Thread that is very likely a Chicago area foundry. The same "H inside a C" logo (technically, it's a monograph) appears on Wilton bullet vises and malleable iron sockets and ratchets in Chicago Manufacturing and Distribution socket sets. As you may or may not know, those are both Chicago area manufacturers, as is Welch, the magneto maker. Stand by and I'll come back with the examples I posted there to prove my point.

EDIT:

Here you go. The "H" inside the "C" on the Wilton vise (see Pics 3 & 4) does not extend beyond the borders of the "C", as it does on the CM&D ratchets and sockets (see Pics 1 & 2), but note that the monograph on the Welch magnets is much fancier than the monograph on the CM&D ratchet and sockets. My guess is that age differences account for the subtle stye differences. But it is the same monograph. The CM&D tools are from the 1920's. The Wilton vise is the front the late 1940's. I don't know when the Welch magneto was made, but I suspect it could be older than the CM&D tools. The fact that all three items are made by Chicago manufacturers and yet the monograph "CH" doesn't fit the letters of either of the company names is very compelling evidence, for me. I had always wondered about it on my CM&D tools, and when I saw it on a few Wilton vises, I immediately figured it had to be a foundry casting things for many customers. The Welch magneto just convinces me further.

Pic 6 is just my little joke.

I believe the unknown in the box with the balance scales is another balance scale. The arm on the right side is the balance beam with a pointer that aligns with the the pointer on the fixed beam. Also includes a zero alignment screw on the base. That Puma White Hunter isn't a bad find either. That alone is worth the price you paid for the lot.

1st time i seen "ch" like that not on a casting. It's slightly different than the embossed ones. Always thought it a foundry mark or a very good customers mark included on the piece.

Anything remotely connected to a old magneto... I take the the best antique engine site in the world. Brought it up here because discussion about "ch" understandably faded away. Thought recent new blood may have interjected something new.

One more thing I forgot to include. There was a stack of leaflets in a sleeve cut from a manilla folder. Turned out to be a complete set of the Indian Leaflet Series from the Denver Art Museum. That series started in 1930 and the last leaflets were done in 1953. In total there are 119 leaflets and the two indexes. All are in very fine condition. Only one leaflet is original. It was printed in 1930. All of the others were reprinted mainly in the 1970s and a large but smaller percentage were printed in the 1960s. Very cool set!

If you want to know more about the series here's a link to it at the Denver Art Museum...Indian Leaflet Series.

I had similar results looking for Holtzer Cabot. I found two images that looked like wrenchguy’s pic, that the poster said was Holtzer, but not period current literature. Found one line drawing pic from Archive.org copied to Flickr, but their reference didn’t get me back to the same image.

Outlaw Just saw your comment about numbering the pics. Number them how? Like adding a comment just above or below each pic "Pic X"? Thanks!

Oops, that explains some of my confusion. I was thinking tractor type magneto, and all the telephone stuff confused me, but I bulled my way forward, ignorantly.

Just a little poking around. If this web page is to be believed, this is a post 1960 item due to the name change from Mfg to Scientific. From other catalogs, looks like a science lab thing, how to generate light by spinning a crank, with the visible open magneto. Being GJ vintage forum, should track that reference to a more reputable source, but I hear lunch calling.

they were on Sedgwick since 1906, from another source.

lunch is cooking, try this site, hopefully the owners know

When I saw that HC I thought that I had seen that logo before on an old fan. Holtzer-Cabot was in the fan business early on.

I quit using the app on my phone and just use the browser and website seems to work ok....it was a lil pain to navigate b

As a rule, I try to minimize apps on my phone. I too use the browser (Chrome on a Samsung Android), and it seems to work just fine.

I was using "app" generically or even mistakenly. I, too, just use the desktop website on my phone browser. Same set up. Samsung Android and Chrome. Maybe it's my phone or my connectivity. I haven't had any problem until a few weeks ago. Now it hangs up on everything for 30 seconds to a minute. Alerts. Page change. Insert quotes. Post reply. Doesn't matter. Takes forever.

Oh... I haven't had that problem. Occasionally it takes forever to upload pics, but usually that's only if I'm trying to add a bunch at once.

Yeah, it's alot bigger than the one I found last year. I showed the flip side because the forged branding side (see below) has half returned to its earthly properties and will be a challenge, but the pair will look good together if I can restore it.

Those are a lot like the Colts, only seen one near here, and way too expensive to ship. One day I will find one.

tx,

What you have is a sewing awl made by Steward MFG. CO. I got mine to use on Scout camping trips to repair equipment. Thread is stored in the handle and fed down the slot in the side. Needles are stored under the chuck lock. Here's mine:

I hit two estate sales and one Restore today. The first sale was... poorly run. There was a lot of neat stuff, but the prices were at eBay+, and as it was the first day, no negotiations. But I manage to pick up a couple things:
51847094463_39fcf21c68_c.jpg
Snap-on nut driver, Plew's oiler, and a Norton stone with a great decal.

The next sale was in a house no one had lived in, or probably been in at all, for over 20 years. All kinds of interesting things, but first-day blues, so not that cheap. But there were a few unresistables:
51847105373_3a02504913_c.jpg
51846070102_88bf877a55_c.jpg
Craftsman socket box with Plomb 1/4 breaker, SK ratchet, Tommy bar, Vlchek DBE, and a nice bone-handled knife. Also, a Kromedge era 3-1/2" dado set. Next, we have the remains of a Cleaveland Twist Drill box for reamers (at least that is what I am going to use it for) small ignition set, MAC wrench, and a Stanley sweetheart level.

After that, I stopped at a Restore, picking up this Simonds saw. You can't see it in this pick, but it has a very nice etching and none of the screws are bunged up. I do need to flatten the blade, though, along with rust removal.

OK, this came in Wed from Eprey. I'd been watching this one on Eprey for weeks or months, and finally pulled the trigger.

Seller said it had no wick? Well it did and I could see that in the pics... Its a wall hanger with a sliding reflector. I may use this camping? Not sure. Good size reservoir, "small" wick for a round wick (you feed it a flat wick and its formed round) at 11/16"

This Burner style is called a Kosmos burner, and was common in Europe for many decades, the advantage over a flat wick? This one feeds a 2" with Flat wick into that small hole and the center draft allows it to burn brighter and hotter. I have two other Kocmos Burner lamps and they use 1-1/4" flat wicks.

Maker is Brondberg & Tandrup

Wikie from Denmark c.jpg

Made in Denmark - is that a date? or a model?

Wikie from Denmark d.jpg

I poked around a bit adn found a chimney that fit - 1-1/2" base Diameter - but seems short, adn its not actually the right shape for a Kosmos:

And post a quick cleanup, a couple of money shots, with and without flash - I have it on low letting the glass warm slow so I don't break it...
