gpw Just saw your question. It's a backpack stove I believe. I've got another one just like it. Didn't try it to see. Here are the relevant part numbers and manufacture code. It's a No. 530 marked B46. Seems to have all the parts.

Actually TX, its a US Army Platoon Stove. Infantry if you want to call that "backpacking". Post WW2, but just barely - likes to run full tilt and can be hair singeing on light-up, so do that outside and follow the lighting instructions. Do NOT use regular pump gas. They say "Gasoline"; but that's WW2 Gas - which was white gas except for certain fighter planes...

So no, "regular pump gas" is not "White gas".

TX thanks for the follow-up. Looks like yours has a wrench/pot holder included. Those 530s are interesting stoves. I have one dated A47 (Jan. 47) which belonged to a dear friend, who no longer has a use for it... Have not been able to get it running, somewhat to my consternation. Eventually...

Wholeheartedly agree w/Outlaw about STRICTLY using "white gas" (aka naptha) in these old stoves. Otherwise, one will spend an inordinate amount of time cleaning out the generator (screen) of mineral deposits.

Lugz, that's a great haul - the box especially! Does it have the tray? There's one FS in tomorrow's estate sale here in town (era UNK), but I'm headed out of town early, so will miss the sale.

I will have to detail this morning's flea haul (Lugz 2022_10)...

20220210_101853.jpg

...later this afternoon, but the highlights are the old untouchably gorgeous beat cop slapjack (we were just talking about the leather ones, this is a lead-core weighted wooden jobbie - "What...are you...prepared...to do?"), and the wartime Hamilton "41-B-1840" embossed GMTK box, which is in the best original condition I have ever seen.
Hey how did you give that one the barn find treatment so quickly? You are getting really good at your work!😂👍

RTM’s thread was the one I was thinking of. I just couldn’t remember who it was that started it

Same. @MisterEd, the GJer who PM'ed me asking if there was already a thread (how refreshing! instead of people just posting redundant threads like mad...), has started one. He is traveling to Lewisburg, PA, but is willing to go 100 miles diameter around it for good picking. I told him you might help, @LesserSon.
Boy that is a good one!
Thanks. Just posted the story and a bunch of photos in the 'Toolboxes' thread down on the VB.

Lewisburg has been a picking destination since I was a kid. My father grew up just north of there, and we’d go to the weekend flea market with my grandparents while visiting. I still sometimes persuade my dad to make a daytrip with me, though it’s a 2hr trip for either of us, coming from essentially opposite directions.
A very ecclectic mix of antique and vintage furniture, appliances, clothing, toys, tools, paper, farming, militaria, etc. Places I try to visit include Silver Moon Antiques Mall (don’t miss the Silver Moon Consignment Barn, a different building across the parking lot), Lewisburg Antiques Mall (just past Walmart from Silver Moon), Rollermills Marketplace (fantastic old timberframing inside), Street of Shops (grimey, productive rabbit-warren once you navigate past the upper-level froufrou).
If you get near Mifflinburg, west of Lewisburg, Rusty Rail Brewing is a restaurant housed in an old-school industrial facility. There are allegedly two antiques shops in that town, but I can’t clearly recall stopping in either…maybe Oma’s Antique Emporium.
And southward, in Selinsgrove, I think I stopped into Firehouse Marketplace one time and bought a Bridgeport screwdriver.

This is why I suggested you! :) But MisterEd is not on this thread. The thread he started has a more generic title, because I think he envisions it as something a little different than I was envisioning. But either way, it's here...

I am going to be in your neck of the woods in a couple of months, so I will be hitting you up for just that information.
When the trip draws near, PM me your itinerary and hopefully we can do some picking together. How do you feel about blindfolds? No, seriously, it will be fun. But the days matter. Hopefully you'll have a Thursday, Friday, or Sunday morning, but each of those is a different flea market, a different location.

// BREAK//

I never got back to ID'ing the other things in my haul. That was another Reed & Prince screwdriver, 1929 McKaig-Hatch tire chain pliers, 20's RED DEVIL pliers, wartime Bonney pliers, and an oddball offset socket and open end wrench...

I am sure I can manage one of them. I will be in NYC for around a week, visiting my son, so I will have time and wheels.

Anyhoo, I hit two estate sales and two Restores today, and only one of the es' was a bust. So, a fairly good day.

51875070390_c733846678_c.jpg
The first stop, an estate sale, was the best stop. A Jon-e pocket handwarmer, La Strada pipe, Sportsman light, Craftsman chisel, Union reel in box!, Ruger box, and a Red Head suede rifle bag. But, the best find was this:
51874745639_6cd4f63a45_c.jpg
BB King concert poster from 2002! Funny enough, the company didn't even blink when ringing it up, only charging a dollar!

The second estate sale wasn't. It was a clever ad for an antique mall. A little too pricy, but I will bring the wife there sometime.

Then I stopped at two Restores on the way home, collecting the following
51875075565_296de41dd7_c.jpg
Challenger extension, a slew of 1/4" sockets (Craftsman, NB, Huskey, Herbrand, Snap-on, Williams*, Thorsen, and what I am pretty sure is a wartime SK), and a Plomb electricians driver. Which is the first I have seen with a fluted handle. I had to check carefully to find the logo.
*actually 9/32", but sadly one I didn't need.

Just picked up a great deal off of FBMP! Two sets of bottles, two sets of gauges, and two welding torches with hoses! All for $40. I saw the same deal in Varage Sale, but it was marked “Pending.” I guess the knucklehead never came to pick it up. So I saw it listed again on FBMP and I jumped right on it. There’s even a nice carry tote. I’ll have to make another one for the duplicate rig.

The rack of breakers and switches is 8 feet tall, and populated on both sides.

Story is this is the new to us indoor space at our trucking yard, and seems to have been removed from service (cold apple storage) In 2011.

I've been busy with non-hobby things for the last couple of months. I finally got a chance to hit the monthly flea market Sunday, and came up with these items:

Photo #1:
Milwaukee M12/M18 charger. I'll use this one at my remote shop 15 miles from home.
CB microphone hook to use in my road grader
1/2" hex ratchet and bit/drive plug
P&C 907-S 1-1/16" Construction Wrench. Probably pre-WWII
Cleco pliers
Westline DOE 5/8 x 3/4
Long-C 1723 DOE 3/8 x7/16
Pocket Magnifier
Fairmount 609A 1-1/2 open end
Heller Bros. 8 oz. ball pein hammer
Indestro Super 782 combo 1-1/8

My first herbrand socket set I know it's triangle Era but ya gotta start somewhere.
When a set is that complete and that clean with a label that perfect, it doesn't matter what era it is, it has to be bought! Nice find.
Pocket Magnifier
That's the kind I keep in the front pocket of my flea bag. Good to see you, Jock.

That poster is cool, I don't recall seeing too many with tour locations! The really cool part (to me) is the mention of HI! I have a bunch of tour t-shirts, and don't believe I've seen any that list HI once, let alone FOUR cities!!! Genius.

Yeah, the funny thing, that poster was lining the bottom of a drawer inside the house. I have a habit of checking all drawers, usually they are emptied, but there were a few things at this estate, and that one surprised the heck out of me.

I always have a habit of opening all drawers, doors, dishwasher, etc. if there is no sign prohibiting it. Funny how things can be found with a little digging. Paying attention to narrow pamplets, etc on book shelves can pay dividends too. Wife found an old concert program for Ella Fitzgerald. It was signed by her and, and it was also signed by Count Basie and one other well known contemporary of the Count and Ella, although the name escapes me. Flipped that on the bay easily.....for a nice bit of change.... :)

I got SKUNKED this morning. Insult to injury, the only time I reached into my pocket was to pay a vendor, Dependable Don, the $10 that I borrowed a couple weeks back.

together we can guard the finds in the rust mines!
Hmm. See, I'm thinking we might have to start on different ends of the flea market and meet in the middle. We collect the same stuff!

You'll have to define "Old Crow."
It's a nickname for former or retired Electronic Warfare soldiers, derived from common jargon and operations associated with the Army Security Agency (ASA), established in 1945, precursor to the NSA, still very active in Vietnam, absorbed reluctantly into a new Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) in 1976, with many activities hanging on well into the 80's up to the fall of the wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. I'll PM you.

Nah. The very early nights of tactical radar and IR imaging. Most people had no idea we existed or if they did what we did. Even the 73rd Aviation pages don't know what was actually going on. At Huachuca post-Vietnam we played with rubber cement until our time was up . . . sort of.

RT, I've also seen this on chains for a quick secure hookup (within its weight class of course)

Lugz and BMW, I see you starting at opposite ends and as you get closer to meeting in the middle, the tense music from the Good, Bad, and Ugly showdown scene comes up... hands twitching at billy clubs... suddenly: :twak:

Took the day off to hit a few sales, first up was a pretty lightly sorted garage with quite a few tools in it. Lots of people also, in the 1/2 hour or so I was there they picked the place clean:)

Too much stuff to list it all but I liked the Snap on speeder, SK deep socket set, Bonaloy DBE, and the Plomb 1/2" pebble.

IMG_3759.jpg

Next was an old car guy clearing out one of his spaces. Not much in the way of tools but I did pick up an interesting plane. Marked Stanley rule and level on the iron and the frog is cast into the body of the plane. Hoping this is an old one because it's in pretty nice shape but I haven't done the research yet. This guy was $10

IMG_3756.jpg

IMG_3757.jpg

Last, hit a sale that didn't seem to have much in the way of good tools on the surface. But there were a few neglected storage bins laying around that gave up some decent stuff, the stuff on the right is plomb, left is Snap on, rats are challenger and SK. I had to grab these craftsman wrenches with the 6 point box end, don't see a lot of these.
