Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've been Active on here.. I figured this was the perfect thread to visit and add a sweet little swap shop find. Not sure that I'll end up keeping it, but I just couldn't leave it there. It looks like it's seen almost no use in it's life. Maye a couple of the smallest sockets. I gave a quick damp wipe down of the case, but it would be near excellent with a little cleaner and a rag. JC penney branded case with a complete Penncraft set nestled inside. Not a bad pickup for $12 I think.

I did find some "compensatory" tools: 5 Better Grip Drivers 1 adapted chipping hammer, Proto? Plastic face hammer - The handle is half out and stuck, , 3 Toyota DOEs, 3 Vlchek, DOEs, Nylon Abrasive wheel BE's, Eclips DOE, Bell System Drivers -Irwin, Mic? Stand.

the Irwin is a Bell System Driver:

And I thought the better Grips were the win, til I uncovered: (My First I think?)

I don't know either! My dad was thinking 70's. We were talking about the days when Penny's had hardware, tools, guns/outdoors gear, etc... My dad got his first gun there back in the day.

Your Dad may be right, check this out:

I honestly don't remember much about the 70s (too young), but I'd thought plastic cases showed up later.

Excellent hauls guys!

Screenshot_20220312-171004~2.pngDon, I was admiring your Carll wrench and thinking how I hope to find one in the wild.

Well, the day Came sooner than I thought.

I bailed on the flea market for a tool sale. Glad I did! I thought it would be a table of tools but was more like three rows of tools. Farm property, it was the third day of the sale. A cool lady who runs estate sales and collected a lot of tools along the way, plus some of her father's stuff.

I might have to work on cleaning that up Outlaw. Didn‘t notice a name when I grabbed it. The little metal level next to it is a Starrett, but the liquid is gone. Some well used stuff.

Several left behinds, as Lugz likes to say.

a little while after taking this a family came and bought the bike, then the lady realized the buyer knocked it over and damaged it. Oh well, he bought it. Glad it wasn't me.

$25 FB MP buy. United States Electrical Tool Co. bench grinder with stand. Has neat sequential serial number. LOL. It turns 8x1" wheels, 1/2hp. 6.6 amp, with added Craftsman light. 1939 information @ V-M.org indicates this "Heavy Duty" Model 8 weighs 115lbs and cost $90. Could be a early war effort machine.

Time to wrap up my winter eBay splurge, finally got the latest package (even though I just made another purchase an hour ago)

I went a little stir crazy adding to my metric MAC combo set, and got a few other items.
MAC 19,15,14, 9/16 combos, MAC plug gapper and DOE. MAC 1/2” flare nut combo and jewel of the haul Snap on 11/16 flare nut combo. DA65C7D6-1E4F-49D7-A29A-756746DA5DA1.jpeg

We went to a Berkeley neighborhood sale and found these. The well used unmarked spinner looks familiar but I can’t quite ID it.13A03569-4FD5-4045-AAC9-B6B5F6197135.jpeg
After that disappointing experience, we headed towards the badlands to the wilds of San Lorenzo. That estate sale was somewhat more rewarding. A couple of Williams ratchets, some Klein drivers, some Vaco nutdrivers and some others currently bathing in evaporust.

The extremely low prices were offset by using a few gallons of gas, unfortunately.

Nice job on the Williams Don. I feel obligated to add that the ring mark around the handle is extremely common on their 3/4 ratchets. At least we know they were consistent during plating.

Part one of two posts due to picture count. Craftsman Toolbox. Guessing probably mid 1970s but correct me if I’m wrong. $65 took that. Tons of wrenches all kinds of brands mainly Proto and Wardmaster for the small ones and the big ones it’s a total mix of Bonney, Indestro, McKaig-Hatch INC which I have never heard of ever. Even a long C Craftsman DOE 11/16x19/32. Thoresen ratchet. Proto T-bar. Duralast adapter 1/2 to 3/4. Proto brake pliers, Plomb DBE, Indestro half moon wrench. Tow hammers for the collect a Great Neck and Popular Mechanics. I collect anything that’s vintage Popular Mechanics I really like their stuff. If anyone has any extra keys laying around for the old Craftsman boxes let me know please. I need one for the bottom and would like an extra for the top.

Part 2 of 2. Really old Snap-on ratchet. That’s the find I’m most proud of. Number 71N. Also attached to it was a 9/16 socket with a notch cut out of each side. Found that an interesting modification would love to hear the story of the socket and ratchet. $3 took the Snap-on. Then a DOE 27mmx32mm DIN wrench. Two speed handles the chrome one is a Walden the rusty one has not yet been identified.

Edit to add: two older baseball gloves for my baseball glove collection. 840B3BB8-5DEA-464E-8503-F9499D4777CC.jpeg

Not only is that a big "you ****!", but I would love some pics of the Craftsman multi tool. I've never seen a craftsman branded one.

Another sale, another deal. These were from an online auction that I forgot about till the very last minute! I logged on and there was 7min left. Snagged the bandsaw for $68 and Wilton Pow-R-Arm for $7. The Wilton has been attached to the base of a desk chair. I pick them up Monday. Had to buy based only on pics, so I took a bit of a chance. We'll see, sorry for the pics, they were the best I can do till I get them to the house. I'm not real familiar with the Pow-R-Arms, anyone have one that can tell me if it's missing anything?

Those gloves aren’t older, they are the ones my cool friends had. I had some cheap no name.
I was just thinking about that last week. My friends had Wilson and Spalding gloves while I had a Regent glove that we got with S&H green stamps. Never bothered me then and doesn't now. I was proud to just have a glove of my own.

Looks like my Cesar Cedano autograph model that I still take with me to Giants games. I bring it despite my life long record of never catching a foul ball. My 34 yr old daughter is two ahead of me. 😢

I went to a commercial woodshop clean out in my town. They had two locations and were shutting this one down to consolidate. It was a small, family-run operation, and a big fraction of the stuff for sale was quality hardwood remnants, from boards to partial sheets. They also had some tools for sale, and that's where I spent my time.

I dug through a tub of hand tools and pulled out the following items:

Channellock 420 pliers
Craftsman 941584D flat blade screwdriver
Mohawk Model 127 pneumatic drill
Vicegrips, 7R
Starrett No 4 slotted rule, no sign of the combination square accessories
No-name tiling corner tool
No-name vintage 4-foot bar clamp--no markings other than a "4" cast into one end
Babco 36" squeeze clamp

IMG_20220313_112812.jpg
IMG_20220313_112821.jpg
IMG_20220313_113111.jpg

I then asked for a price on a nicely preserved Delta 37-190 jointer. "$100" was the answer, and when I asked the lady to throw in the above tools at that price, she said "Sold!"

IMG_20220313_115316.jpg

I've been slowly migrating from vintage Craftsman to newer Delta equipment as I find good deals, so it's now time to pass the C-man jointer I've never used in four years on to someone who will.

Picked this up yesterday off CL - Wilton C0 combination vise. My first time to even see one of the Wilton combination vises in the flesh. It's in pretty good used condition. I can see why people like these Wilton combo vises...very beefy!

Local small automotive shop going out of business. By the time I got there, most of the good stuff had already been picked through. I was able to snag this USA made Craftsman tool box filled with drill bits (mostly Whitman & Barnes) up to 1/2". Most of them look very lightly used, some look NOS still in the packaging. Also got a Jacobs 1/2" drill press chuck, and a pair of large C-clamps (one Wilton: USA, one Fuller: Japan)

Today I focused on cleaning up a few of the items from yesterday’s haul.

77FADBDC-A5AC-49F1-9874-F02A1237982E.jpeg

I'm thinking some suckage is in there...

3Bay, I think the little 4" square is Starrett.
It is definitely a Starrett. Cleaned it up a lil bit.

It would be a nice piece but...it was in the woman’s scrap bucket. I had it in the Evaporust just to get the blades freed up. I think I used to see them in the store along with the pocket knives. It would be nice to find a replacement plier head.

A few items that I messed with so far. Several more soaking.

@revolution337 Hopefully you got a great deal on that, being that you were scraping the bottom? I have one of those Craftsman plastic boxes, they're great. The Jacobs chuck makes that extra-sucky...

I found this Porter-Cable router at an estate sale on Saturday. The seller thought it was a buffing tool, and was confused when I asked if there were any bits available, as I couldn't find any. I 've never owned a router before, so I'll have to figure out what I'm doing---it should be a good learning experience. I got it for $10, so it's no great loss if I don't ever get around to using it.IMG_0782.jpgIMG_0781.jpg

Just to help the ****-ometer...

@BlakeTheCarGuy ***** for the Craftsman stack, nevermind the tools assortment.

@Raineman ***** for one of the better-spent $25 I've seen in a while. Radio Shack and other nostalgia is always fun.

@3baygarage ***** for making $40 explode into all sorts of cool tools.

And of course, @Caleb T absolutely ***** for that mint-looking JC Penny / Penncraft complete setup, especially at $12...

Paid $40 for all of it. I was mainly interested in the box with all the drill bits, and the owner said $40 for that. I walked around some more and found those two C-clamps as well, and asked if he'd do $40 for the bits as well as the two clamps. He agreed.
