It definitely sounds the same, and I wished I knew about the digger sale, I like those! I was there on Sat, and the Proto pullers I was hoping to see were gone, unsurprisingly. But you never know, which is how I found the Unimat, and other things in the past.

I dropped a rod from a hydraulic cylinder off at a machine shop to have some repairs done, and stopped on the way home at the Restore, which was right along the way. I found the following items for $11.00, six of which was the big socket.

Plomb Pebble 1137 DBE 11/16 x 3/4 (the black is hardened pipe joint compound, which comes off easily)
P&C 2825 DOE 11/16 x 3/4
Powr-Kraft (Barcalo) DOE 5/8 x 3/4
Barcalo DBE 1/2 x 9/16
Tru Fit DOE 11/16 x 3/4
Mac C6 combo 1/2
Indestro Super 774S combo 9/16
Import 7/8 combo (for a loaner)
1/2 hex magnetic power socket
10mm T-handle hex socket
Blue Point hex socket, 2-9/16" (1/2 drive socket welded on, but 3/4 square drive is intact)

In case you don't know that 2 9/16 socket is for rear wheel bearings on ford axles from the late 70s well into the 80s Ford full float truck axles.

2-9/16 also fits the nut that holds the U-joint yoke onto the input shaft of Eaton heavy truck drive axles. I have two trucks with those axles!

I forgot to post my Saturday find. Covered some miles without any return, but thats the game we play. I did manage a cool find at one though. A set of Craftsman pint glasses and coasters in the box, a Sears wrench (to flip) and a MAC screwdriver for the box. $5 for the lot. (Other glass currently in the freezer)

Saturday I stopped at an estate sale that was on its last day. The deceased's husband had collected Studebakers from the 1940's and 50's, so there were some dregs left from that. Not much of interest for me, but I found a few things and spent $10.00.

Two 16" tires, one with a tube. I use these for front tires on my Ford N tractors.
Walden Worcester 6218 speeder (no markings, but 20" long and 9/16" hex identified it)
Walden Worcester 6064 speeder 9/16
3-way electrical tap
Clover 150 grit oil base lapping compound
Pipe jaws (open screw vise, dark green color)
Clark Feather spring compressor (seems to squeeze, instead of lift)

Here's my today's $50 haul.

I never had one of these torches, so I'll need to do some research how to get it to work.

I was quite disappointed because i came 10min before the sale started abd the guy who rolled in 5min before me already scooped up all the Craftsman goodies. Oh well, next time...

This is a little out there, but still a craigslist score.

I got tired of vacuuming out the pool so I bought a used Dolphin pool cleaning robot. It's awesome! But it didn't have a cart. So I saw another one on Craigslist for $100 that had a cart (Dolphin Triton PS Plus). The guy said it was working fine, but the cable went bad. Well the cable is $300! But i only needed the cart. So I bought it and was going to part out the power supply, filters (came with a new set), robot, etc.

I did a continuity check and found out that the swivel joint was the problem. There are three pins and round contactor plate. Two of the pins were corroded. Hit it with a wire brush and bingo! Now I have two working robots! They will probably kill me whilst I sleep, but it's worth it as I don't have to vacuum out the pool now!

This damn thing goes for about $1,000 new.

WOW, @cmccuist1...

You **** on several levels! Great pricing on TWO robots, and... they're ROBOTS so you don't have to waste time vacuuming yourself anymore!!!

Here is a curb find MLW found while walking the dog yesterday. I didn't see the pic til she was several blocks away, but she went back with the car, and they were still there. Not sure I will use them all, but will pass on the excess. Suspect I will keep the black (with pegs) and pass on the gray ones.

I picked these up the other day when I bought that KB toolbox set and a bunch of tools.

Matco angle die grinder and Snap on cutoff tool. Both work great. I paid $10 for the pair. The Snap on just needed a new lever which I got installed today.

so.... who do you suppose made the "Franklin" wrenches? the outfit in Maine?
I don't know. This is my second set and the second time I was hoping YOU would know! I found my first set (which was more complete, but far less coppery) in 2018, and posted them right here on the 2018 version of the GS thread, and then in the Auto Kit thread, linked here. I'll post additional photos of this kit there as well.

As noted previously, I've been shuttling back and forth to NC to take care of my dad. While home I've been more or less consumed with household duties including a big landscaping project. That project keeps developing further tweaks--I have been digging a trench to drain a low spot near the front door that some border curbing turned into a water hazard. The ground the house is built on is so rocky that I've only managed a seven-foot run in the last two days and I've encountered a huge rock that I now need to excavate. I did try to use my star drill to cut through it. Those who can cope with that laborious task are my heros! I quickly switched over to a hammer drill and even that got me nowhere. Mrs. OR is calling me to start digging... Luckily, :dunno: there are no tool sales in the S.A. area this week...

Lugz--I want to read your books!

Well, after renting a Hilti jack hammer (twice...), I finally won the trench war against the entrenched boulders. Yes, of course there was more than one! The second wave had a couple that were flint--the pointed chisel was making the sparks literally fly! Sadly, the brand new pointed chisel will never be the same:

After my victory celebration, I found I had time to go to one Estate Sale today before heading back to NC this weekend. A small haul, but it broke a long dry spell. $5 total.

This thread cracks me up sometimes. I didn't get a peep out of anyone on the rare Depression era STANLO (that was Stanley's* answer to Erector) boys' construction set, but you guys zero in on a preventive maintenance article from 1942?! :)

Actually, there was a hilarious one that I am going to have fun posting in Beemer's 'Books' thread.

* Yes, THAT Stanley!

I know the Stanlo is rare but the magazines and the illustrations look super cool! This thread is always a source for much hilarity as to what folks find desirable and comment on. I posted a ridiculous garage clean out I did a few weeks ago and not one comment or suckage comment but then other guys posted a few pictures of a handful of tools and the comments flew. Oh well, it’s all part of the game!

Oh, for sure. The different objectives and aesthetics is what makes it fun, and I know I'm in a minority with mine. If I was posting for likes I wouldn't have made it to 2013! And yes, the mags are cool. I've already put them in slip covers.

The best find, if only in my book, is the B&S set, as decrepit as it looks. Maybe my fave find this year. There was a nice surprise waiting for me when I cleaned the box up.

I stopped by multiple garage sales today that were part of a community garage sale. I have no idea why they call it garage sale when there's no tools, just nothing for the garage there whatsoever (just venting I guess)

At the end of the day, you have to do it for yourself, not the likes. Those folks only in it for the likes usually get dissatisfied and burn out quickly. Gotta stay true to yourself and that will keep you motivated

Cool find on tha magazines Lugz! I love stuff like that. A couple months ago I found all of 1941 and most of 1942 popular mechanics at a thrift store and I have slowly been reading through all of them

It's all entertainment (and a healthy dose of education once in a while).

Have to admit, GJ has cost (saved?) me some money (clearance threads), and I have to pace myself with adding to the Milwaukee M18 collection.

I was on a crazy hunt for a vintage drill press for a while after seeing some REALLY cool ones here.

So far in this thread, I feel like I've contributed enough freebies here to keep myself at least on the fringe of contributing. I've successfully resisted the urge to run out to garage sales and flea markets every weekend!

Today was a day for vises, all at one estate sale. The biggest is a 'Standard vise' 3-1/2" fixed base in great condition, anyone know the maker? The grey one is Bessey, the blue is Wilton, both from the same factory in China and identical in all respects except for the chromed vs black oxide hardware. The red vise has no markings that I could find. Finally, the tiny vise was just too cool to leave behind, stamped '25' on the side. Total cost was $10 for all.

Edit... based on another thread here on GJ, the Standard vise was most likely made by Morgan possible as a contract item for other companies.

I saw a late Craigslist ad for a one day estate sale in Concord, CA so we checked it out. It turned out to be the same company I got a good quantity of tools from last Friday. There weren’t many tools at this one but I spotted an 8” Delta grinder to possibly replace my 6“ Delta that is starting to make bad noises occasionally. It was priced high but just like last week I made an offer that was less than half of asking and it was immediately accepted.
Here is what we brought home minus my wife’s Pyrex pie dish.F5E60C30-F04E-43D6-9B0C-7978884D0547.jpegBF43CDE4-4117-4A58-BC39-DBB773DC1881.jpeg
The pliers are 8” Diamond and the screwdriver is Bell System.3797080B-21E5-433B-9AD7-0B9AE95B2492.jpegFC27059D-AB98-4047-A346-64C75156C89B.jpeg
I just grabbed the Craftsman DOE because it was metric 5D7D0856-67F1-45C4-87C8-4383309D01F2.jpeg
Did a little cleanup on the lightly used grinder.
