Another retired old man tool sale. He had a Proto side saddle box and it was FULL! $50. Starrett 6" rules, scribes, thread pitch gauges, and a good sized Starrett box that just had drill chuck keys. A nice assortment or Proto tools including a snap ring pliers set, an internal pipe wrench and 1/4 drive socket set. One drawer was completely full of drill bits. Probably 300 total. Another drawer had about a dozen or so end mills, boring bars, center drills, etc. Then about a whole bin full of taps, a Williams ratchet, an Armstrong ratchet, files, tubing bender, Channelock pliers and other misc that is in every tool box.

That’s a Ross Pero level sucking sound.

Coors Light was 80s. I was already working and drinking (not that piss water) when it came out.
Coors is not good ever… unless Buford T. Justice is chasing Bandit Darville over it…

The Mrs No_Garage and I hit some GS's this AM.

At stop #1 (a TOO) I spied a Porter Cable 7424XP polisher in it's box. I asked the owner how much? $10 he asked? SOLD! He laughed and said I thought so and that he had replaced this unit with a smaller polisher that cost over $200 so he knew he was giving away the PC.

At a later stop the owner was downsizing from a 3,000 SF house to a condo, so ALL his big stuff had to go. He had a planer, lathe, compressors and a bunch of tool boxes. As I was looking around I saw a drill press and asked how much? He came back with $40. Sold. The drill press is a Craftsman 150 standing height drill press. It's currently laying down in the mini-van awaiting some extra muscle to help me unload it. Here is a pic to show what I'm starting with . . .

Craftsman_150_Drill_press.jpeg

It's in really good shape - but the motor isn't wired to a switch so I need to sort that out.

Cheers

Nice Scores Jim! Usuck for the 150!

Does it happen to have the 3rd pulley?

Dead man foot switch for the motor, and never look back.

Slim pickings in Tahoe today. I saw a Craigslist ad for a woman that gathers and resells tools that I met earlier in the year. I had a large ziplock bag of imported tools from the Far East that I couldn’t bring myself to throw away so I brought them to her as possible trading material. She seemed happy to get them and told me that she had picked up an interesting tool the previous week. She went into her backyard and brought out a massive monkey wrench. We worked out a trade and now I am the owner of a 21” Coes in pretty good condition. I picked up a couple of spring clamps and a Craftsman screwdriver at another sale.

Worst beer ever was Hoppin Gator. Iron City beer with lemon. Yuch. Hamms was a running joke when I lived not too far from the Cities. Land of sky blue waters indeed. Made in downtown Saint Paul on the banks of the Mississippi river.

Yep, another You **** on that DP for a mere $40. (it looks like a "creampuff"!) That motor is not original and looks tiny. It would be an excellent candidate for a 3 phase motor + VFD. $10 for that PC polisher is another you ****. (they're the gold standard for automotive detail work)

Yesterday's haul (the cast iron skillet is Wagner-Ware --circa 1960s-- and a great candidate for an electrolysis project) ...

I particularly like the Hamms one because it's the second worst beer I've ever drank in my life, lol.
As soon as I read this I knew it would devolve into a listing of everyone's worst beer. Since my collage days mine has been Stroh's--The Weasel Piss of Beers.

cmccuist1, you deserve a You **** for your Proto Sidecar haul, and an admonishment for the tone of your "Another retired old man tool sale" crack. :moon:

Also added to the **** list is Jim_No_Garage for that beautiful CM Drill Press.

Davefr, I love your Pinewood Derby trophies. This one isn't as old, but I won it myself--with a lot of help from my Dad--and it still resides on one of my bookshelves. Ahhh, those were simpler times.
EDIT: My error--yours are Soap Box Derby trophies--a whole different category of racers!

Pinewood Derby.jpg

Now I'm late for the 1/2 off day of a sale I bought things from and haven't posted yet--so much to do and so little time...

Thank you for all the positive feedback on the DP purchase. I have created a thread with more details so we don't sideline the GS 2022 thread.

Dead man foot switch for the motor, and never look back.
No third pully :(
Yes we do. The motor, the base & nameplate…
Jim, I hope you get help unloading it. 1960s Emerson Elec 150 floor DP for $40?!!! That’s incredible! Congrats.
Some pics in the new thread

Thank you - it's a 1/2 hp but it works. The polisher needs pads but beyond that I'm happy.

It was a magical day . . .

Yesterday I attended the swap meet at the Great Oregon Steam Up. This is a two-weekend steam and tractor show, and I caught the first day of the second weekend. Mostly due to heat out here, which is something I don't deal really well with. And as this swap attracts a lot of pro dealers, I had to be very careful not to spend too much money. In any case, here are the finds:
52270001073_b73bc8e5b5_c.jpg
Because this was the second week, many dealers were ready to deal, so I got the Millers Falls corner brace for half of what the tag says, the Eifel Plierench for 2/3's of what was being asked, The winged Allen's were, on the other hand, not on discount. The long nut driver is Indestro marked, and the fixed head speeder with wooden handle is marked, Eastern Mach. Screw. Couldn't pass that up!

All of that is sitting on a Plomb 1/2 box:
52269993668_52449cf1f1_c.jpg
Which was full of misc. vintage sockets: Snap-on overstrike, Plomb, Chrome Vanadium, OTC, what I am pretty sure are early P&C, and so on.
52270234504_c286da4960_c.jpg

But by around 9:30 it was already getting hot out in the sun, so I packed it in and headed for breakfast. As it was a relatively small swap, I didn't miss anything, but it was a bit expensive to get in.

After eating, I found two estate sales on the way home that looked interesting, and I found the following:
52270010003_5022c251e6_c.jpg
SK diamond film box and Proto nippers from one, and Snap-on t-handle, SK diamond extension and Milwaukee flathead driver from the second.

All in all, not a bad day.

Wow 3Bay! Nice scores! that unmarked Hacksaw - I'm betting it was a HS shop project. I made its bigger brother. (taller)

I went back out after looking at the socket on the ratchet driver as I suddenly remembered seeing more of them adn it didn't click at the time (I was un-stringing the bigger sockets so I could get what I wanted,, not a random wired string with mostly not interested sockets...).

And I was right. here they are (given to me - I've sort of made a "GS buddy" out of this guy \; we talk about different sales/items, and he's both collector and a reseller)

The Tung-Sol "Set" (now mostly complete) One socket is a dupe in size, but not marked/knurled - NONE are marked for size, just "Made in USA" and the knurling

TS Driver Set 1.jpg

They even had the TS embossed on the end:

Thanks outlaw. I think I‘ve seen saws like this before. Looks pretty well done, for a class project, the knurling and all. It has a 4 digit # hand stamped on one side. That’s all I know.

BMW- nice Plomb find. Sounds like a great event.

LS- that looks like a great event as well. Awesome that you and your father hit these things together. Regarding him losing his wallet, I took my mother along two weeks ago when I got the Craftsman box, and she lost her money clip and all her cash, at one several public benches, and we were too far/way too late to go back when she realized. :dunno:
Lord help us to be more careful with things whether we’re up in age or not.

My big finds at today’s sale:

Stanley Bailey No. 7
24” Diamond wrench. My first 24” actual Crescent style wrench. I’ve had a 20” Proto, numerous 18’s and 15’s, the 16” Craftsman, but never a 24.

FCA37228-3BDD-44EF-A8B4-E3A00DF9DCD6.jpeg
you guys get first look at this with me
Greenlee Knockout Punch, found the box and kit separated.

Yikes, pretty rusty.:lol: Oh well.
FB291581-71B4-4534-89F5-A8985134E63E.jpeg
also took both this power tool or impact box with Craftsman impact sockets, and this beater Kennedy with contents.

C4479680-0367-4DD7-8F89-15C84DA7B2DD.jpegI wanted the old Cornwell sockets in the Kennedy. A bunch of junk, but there were some tools including Apex clutch screwdrivers, Herbrand and Utica punches, a Ford wrench, big old Cman dbe, tiny Bonney, some offset screwdrivers.

The larger offset is marked. An odd name I haven’t heard before, “Thompson Silcrome”.

Okay. Let's see if I can get caught up from this week's endeavors.

Thursday, since I was going right by it, I hit the final day of a sale that I had decided to skip altogether because the picture in the announcement just showed a distant shot or two of a bench with a few nondescript tools and a screw driver rack. Don't trust the damn pictures--and unfortunately, that advice works both ways... After finding my way down to a nice sized basement shop I was surprised to see it had been, at one time, fairly well appointed. I gathered up what was interesting to me and paid less than $10.

04 Aug 22.jpg

- E.C. Stearns & Co. 5074 bike wrench with a nice heft.
- Indestro Super 10mm socket
- Action 80MA Spinner
- JP Danielson Auto-Kit No. 100, in worse shape than the one Lugz posted the other day. For some reason mine won't nest very well.
- North Bros. YANKEE No. 2101 Brace--was probably marked Bell Systems but some gorilla latched on to each arm with something like Vice Grips and gouged through the chrome and into the steel, obliterating the area where the Bell mark would have been.
- Indestro Ignition Wrench
- Ignition Wrench lightly stamped Chromium Vanadium & Made in USA on one side and an unknown partial logo on the other side. (see below)
- 1" & 7/8" Long C, CM sockets (BE)
- 6" & 3" Long C, CM extensions (Circle-H)
- Long C, CM Tappet Wrench No.2

04 Aug 22a-1.jpg

This is my second North Bros. Yankee 2101 Brace. My first (on bottom) is from shortly after the acquisition by Stanley and is marked Div. of Stanley Tools. While the the 2101 and the 2100 are thought by many to be the pinnacle of Brace engineering, the quality of the original North Bros. example on top far exceeds Stanley's cost cutting measures and shows no loss of chrome (beyond the gorilla's depredations) despite being a decade or two older. The chrome on the Stanley is only about a nano-meter thick and comes off if you look at it sharply...

04 Aug 22a-2.jpg

Here is the logo on the edge of the ignition pliers I mentioned. I could be talked into reading "Jamestown" or at least somebody's town.
Has anyone seen this logo before?

Friday's finds will have to wait...

That sure looks like a Shelton Ratchet tool. See Lugz’s thread here.

On mine the sockets are marked on the drive side. I have a few extra sockets that came with some random other sockets, if someone needs.

I am way behind on not only my cleaning queue but also cataloging the new acquisitions. Here are a few from a week ago? Two weeks? It all blends together :ROFLMAO:

Here's some stuff from the flea...PowerKraft breaker, unfortunately someone took a grinder to the handle for some reason. Walden reefer rat (female on other side), SK Wayne DOE, Armstrong combo, SK metric flare, Plomb 5432, and a P&C T handle wobbler. I almost left the P&C behind as the dealer wanted 5 bucks for it and I didn't want to pay that. But ultimately I couldn't leave it and grabbed it on the way out.

IMG_4179.jpg
IMG_4180.jpg

Found a couple of well worn Snap on socket trays at the last day of a tool sale...this guy beat the **** out of his stuff, never seen so many broken tools. Also grabbed the big Bonney CV, a New Britain 1/2" Drive, then Plomb 5343 and 5428, gunk covered Snap on, Proto 1/4 wobbler and a few other small sockets, then a couple Long C. New Britain NDF-50, S.R. 7/16(can't remember who made these), a couple D I 3/8 dr, SK, Cornwell, and a Plomb 1214. 8 bucks.

This batch came from a mini flea that I go to down south if there are other sales in the area I want to visit. This stuff came from multiple dealers and I can't remember how much it was. I thought the McKaig-Hatch was interesting, as is the Williams DOE on the right that seems "portly". The rest of it is pretty run of the mill stuff that I picked up for building sets.

Got this bunch from a guy moving out of his long time rental house. He had a really nice Kennedy bottom box that he only wanted $50 for but I amazed myself by refusing to take it! Speeders are Husky and Indestro, tape is a Starrett, and a Craftsman pouch. Then PowrKraft and Snap on wrenches, B-52 and Fleet 3/8 drive rats, SK spinner, and the wobblers are Proto, Snap On, PowrKraft, and Walden. $15.

This bunch came out of a $20 box of sockets, I didn't bother photographing the rest which was probably 100+ additional Craftsman and other miscellaneous USA sockets. Happily not much chinesium to sort out. Top row is all Snap on, the rest is primarily Proto with Challenger and Plomb thrown in there. Normally I would have just high graded the stuff I wanted but the sellers said all or nothing. I wanted the f-67-b so I bought it.
IMG_4214.jpg

This batch is a mix of flea market and yard sales. Pretty sure the Proto 1232, Craftsman 1", and Challengers were $12 or so, I only paid up because I thought I needed them for sets and come to find out I don't! I gotta keep better track of my ****...The Starrett 94 square and calipers were $6, the big breaker is Husky, and I have no idea what the Cam Loc thing is. Pretty much just bought it so I could figure out what it was!
IMG_4215.jpg

Finally, picked up this Veto Pro Pac LC for $15. I don't need another tool bag but I couldn't pass this up.

I don't recall seeing a small pouch with a flap like that or that kind of branding on it before. Please post it in BB's Eifel thread.
For some reason mine won't nest very well.
Do you say "teeter totter" or "see saw"? It's a hotter debate than "soda" or "pop"!

Made by Standard Pressed Steel in Jenkintown, PA, the same outfit that made UNBRAKO hex keys. The self-storing ratcheting L-handle kits they made are kind of neat, a bit of a collector's item for some of us, and we have a thread down on the VB.

Here is the logo on the edge of the ignition pliers I mentioned. I could be talked into reading "Jamestown" or at least somebody's town.
Has anyone seen this logo before?

Friday's finds will have to wait...
Weber Knapp.

Don’t thank me though, thank four.cycle. A google search took me to his thread which I hadn’t seen before:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum...weber-knapp-mfg-co-jamestown-new-york.496387/

I used to see that logo and always wondered.. but it’s it’s been a while. I learned something today thanks to you guys!

Add that to the list of Jamestown tool makers.

I took my 12 year old grand daughter out to the flea market on Saturday, got her some jewelry, a porcelain doll, and a dress she really liked. Then I seemed to really impress her when i picked up this 1961 pamphlet. I was riding high as a pretty cool "Papa D" until we got back to the car and she asked which video game it was from. She was far less impressed when she learned it was the real thing.

So I did something dumb at stop #1 today i set a box down to pay and then forgot to pick the dang thing up! My memory was jogged by a pic, in the posts since I posted, and then I was "did I leave it in the van?" - No... So I went back on the off chance it was not resold... (my fault if it did)

Dang if the guy wasn't kicked back and still open, and dang if it wasn't right where I'd set it! cool dude, he said "take it" So I did and scanned for what was left, and found a nice brass cased barometer! $3! (His price, I want going to argue!)

The box this is what caught my eye, and I've heard of Vim tools before:

and inside: the set (not sure if any are missing, but 4 extras in any case) and the barometer:

Tung Sol also made incandescent bulbs. Nice pick!

After more thought, I believe that they made turn signal flashers, too.

Now I'm late for the 1/2 off day of a sale I bought things from and haven't posted yet--so much to do and so little time...
We here in New England has Fallstaff... me and my high school buddies had many "Staff meetings" - ha ha ha ! The bottle caps had weird messages:
