Provincial says:

3bay, that Simanco clamp looks like a pallet grabber, only scaled down. I've used pallet grabbers to clamp onto the center spine of a pallet to drag it out where a forklift or pallet jack can move it around. They are pretty common for dragging pallets out of a box truck when you don't have a pallet jack to put into the truck, and there is no loading dock.

If it will grab a 2x board, it could be for pallets. If it won't open that far, it must be for grabbing something thinner, like plywood.

I think he may be right. Here is a picture of a pallet "grabber" (I call it a "dragger") that I have.

Picked these up Saturday. Saw the big 1 1/8 & 1 1/4 sticking out of a box. I grabbed the whole box and asked how much. $30
Got home and dumbed it out. It’s a complete set of Plumb wrench 7/16-1 1/4 plus a couple small snap-on 1/2. 1945-48 vintage

I don't think for pallets/wood/ply:

-Simanco odd scissor style lifting clamp? Pretty neat piece. Lifts with quite the bite. Doesn’t seem to fall in line wih the usual Simanco products, and can’t find anything about it on the web. Maybe Lugz has seen it.

Simanco is "Singer Manufacturing Co. - so think sewing, but not cloth - leather.... sometimes you have to pull/stretch before sewing so likely for that. Singer made machines for all levels of sewing.

Some of the thread drop offs may be due to stalled notices. I dropped off since Sunday, inadvertently...

I‘ve worked around those pallet pullers, and it definitely reminds me of them, but smaller. I mean, it fits in one hand. Looking online, there are even stump and brush pullers available through tractor supply that operate similar to this.

I’ll have to post a couple more photos.

I was thinking of a fabric pulling device, Outlaw. It would definitely have to grip an object with some width and not one thin sheet of something. Heck, maybe they were dragging new in the crate sewing machines.

Yesterday’s restore finds - Coes and Crescent wrenches. The punch was from a hardware store over the weekend.

Well, I’m back in SA after a week’s labor helping my youngest brother pack up my dad’s stuff and motor it from NC to TN. Coming down out of the Smoky Mountains was sporty doing 80mph in a driving rain, driving a 16’ Penske towing a car carrier. :scared:

Before leaving NC, I took the opportunity to meet up with gpw_42 at his favorite Thai restaurant. We swapped stories about spicy food, places we’ve lived and things we’ve done. It was great meeting up with a fellow GJ’er even though we didn’t get to do any picking together.

08 Sep 22 gpw_42&OR.jpg

And speaking of picking, I picked this cute little body hammer from my dad’s small collection of miscellaneous hammers. I know he never used it for its designed purpose, and I probably won’t either.

Since I was too busy and beat to keep up with the thread last week, I sat down today and caught up.

--mikeinri, ever the zealot when it comes to handing out low-pressure phrase, awarded a second You **** (of the Year) for Bobcat753's gifted excavator. I had to disallow it because there is no ballot-box stuffing in the Garage Sale Thread.

It’s great to be back—and now I’m off to a mid-week sale.

No stuffing intended, just lack of short-term memory. BUT, that is the sucky-est pickup I've even seen. Certainly blows away my free ($5-8k new) air compressor from last year.

Who's who?

Judging only by the picture, I'm gonna guess Old Radar is the guy with the glasses? Radar from mash wore glasses.

But Walter "Radar" O'Reilly got his moniker from his uncanny prescience while I'm just an old Radar Navigator in B-52s.
Augury vs. Technology. ...and I don't normally wear glasses.

2 more items from an estate sale last Friday. A mechanics carry box, late 1930's SK #1502, (thanks to 'd42jeep' on the vintage tool box thread who provided a catalog page/pictures) with tray and most of the leather handle. I originally figured it was a Kennedy when I added it to my pile but was pleasantly surprised by the nice label on the inner top panel. It cleaned up nicely (I'll add the 'after' pictures tomorrow). Item 2 is a neat 6" metal ruler which was floating around with the assortment of odds & ends inside the SK box. Looks to be brass plated with black lettering/backround. I was tempted to try a little metal polish but was afraid it would take off the finish so just cleaned it with Dawn dish detergent and warm water. I like the details and especially the wording. Will have to do a little research on the business.

Great post.

Thanks for putting a face to the names of guys I blame for spending all my money on tools.

It was only December (bmwrd0’s thread) when OR posted a pic of himself modelling a new apron. How soon we forget. (Hairline not visible.)

And now that the weather here is finally cooling a bit, I may be able to start wearing it again--wearing a heavy leather apron when the garage is 90+ degrees is just untenable.

Okay, so I think we should move on from further discussions of my hairline, teeth and apparel and get back to the business of posting our treasures and ill-gotten goods. Picker of the Year voting is just around the corner so it's time rev up for the sprint to the finish line!

Yesterday's sale was a bust. Two more today that I'm going to only because I have an appointment near by. Good luck this week, everyone!

OR, I enjoyed meeting you and your brother - the conversation was interesting. I appreciate you taking the time to reach out before your trip. Thanks once again for dinner!

I can't speak to how many hours I spent in this, the Dome of Obedience, or others like it. But I know that collectively, they're a big part of the reason my hairline is fighting a rear guard action!

I hit four sales today, the first being a bit of a pain, between the horrible parking, no light in the space I wanted to be in, and no hold tables so idiots made piles everywhere.
52361121233_cbffd716b2_c.jpg
I only managed to find a 4" adjustable and what looks like a shop made ratchet before I became so annoyed I left.

The second sale was way far and gone, but I found quite a bit of interest.
52361204949_69f7414e95_c.jpg
Stanley pushdrill bits, bezel driver, General hardware box, odd driver, P&C S wrench, wooden tube/box, Starrett automatic center punch.
Here is a shot of the tips on the two drivers:
52359942687_54de51e9b2_c.jpg

I also found some paper:
52361304845_834f6b1ed2_c.jpg
Most of it is from the '30s, and we have Delta's guide to lathes,a Stanley tool guide and a Stanley project book, South Bend flier on belt splicing, a Card T&D catalog, Morse catalog (the only one from the '50s) and the drill press book is a Walker Turner guide from '34.

The other two stops were long-shots, and nothing was found.

The one on the left looks just like the tool for removing dash control bezels (like headlight switches or vacuum wiper controls) on 50's Fords. The hollow shaft slips over the rod after you have removed the knob, and the two teeth engage the slot in the nut or "bolt" that holds the control in place.

Hit a pretty decent sale today near one of the pump stations I maintain. Quite a bit of tools that he was just liquidating. Apparently he does the same as the rest of us. Except he was getting tired of moving it all.

First up is a 1/2" drive SK set with newer ratchet that was broken I don't think he realized you can get them rebuilt for next to nothing. And a missing 1 1/16" socket. $20

Next was a pile of SK, SK Wayne, ( I have a soft spot for SK tools, not sure why) and a Proto ratcheting wrench, Wright flare wrench, and a few Williams allen head sockets.$15

Then I emptied out a drawer of wrenches and put it with a tote of all Snap On and Blue Point sockets
75% of the wrenches are Snap On. While the others are Mac with a few Matco.

The tote is all Snap On and Blue Point. $75
I wouldn't say it's a super great deal, but not bad.

Having some issues getting the pics to upload. The internet here is horrible to nonexistant.

We had a Thu - Sunday tool sale nearby, stopped by yesterday while walking the dogs, nothing I wanted to carry home. Went back today after another failed stop (too new, too pricey), and he had more stuff out. I had originally seen a bunch of diablo disks for a RA grinder, but they were gone along with the Ryobi grinder. Bought this, paid a little more than I wanted but not awful.

10" x 12" Finger joint plywood box w 2 drawers, Walboard Stainless Steel putty knife, Crescent w Skinny jaws probably imported, Wiss angled tin snips, Made in USA needle nose Vise Grips, 2x hang on socket trays, no marks found yet

:+1: through mid-late 60's at least. (trucks likely went later) No clue on the right side item; pic not clear enough

Not tool related. I always wanted a large bell (5 gallon bucket size or larger). Still do, but can't afford it. Found this at a yard sale for $5. She claims it's from an old church, which I doubt. Got some weight to it for it's size.IMG_20220917_073137780_HDR.jpg Beautiful sound either way. Sid brass, 7" high, 7 1/2" opening. I have access to retired commercial aircraft. I'm trying to scrounge something cool from them

I have been way behind on this thread but finally got caught up. Here’s a few of my finds over the past few weeks.
Coworker is cleaning out his in-laws so every couple weekends he would have another truck bed full to dig through.

Sk 3/8 and 1/4” set. Bought the 3/8” sockets in one trip, the 1/4” and ratchet in another and then finally the blow molded case. Total about $20
F54088E8-6202-4856-A5CE-02412524C98C.jpeg
Also got a maul and a mattox from him. Both are Warren tool. $5 each
1FF6C6AF-3272-46E3-96F7-CD14A66CD54D.jpeg
Here is a close up of the little Utica 775 pliers as well. FCCF0B5E-A9EE-44B7-88F5-D76479492BDE.jpeg
Lastly, won a few lots in a local online auction. Craftsman 3/8 and 1/4” socket sets. It was two separate lots but ended up making the full sets minus a few I added. $25
97522B89-D282-452C-96D2-463D16C96E2A.jpeg
A few larger craftsman wrenches 1”- 1-5/16 $30
6D457DE2-EF9B-442B-AE4A-47401D15E8F8.jpeg
Lastly a 1/3hp industrial craftsman grinder I bought only because I couldn’t believe the bidding wasnt higher. I was the high bidder at $32 I already sold it to a friend who I found out later had wanted to bid on it but couldn’t make the pickup day. It runs nice and smooth.
