The pickings were rough out at the flea.

Everything‘s priced astronomically high by the regular vendors, and it’s gotten to the point it’s almost too hard to buy from some of them the last couple years.
They’ve all gotten nuts except for a couple people.

For example, a guy wanted $15 for a worn markings old Mac cotter pin puller (which he said was Snap-On), with no point on the end! Another weekly guy is still sitting on nice ratchets from a year ago. Nobody wants a repainted used Williams 1/2” ratchet for $20. Price it at 10 and take the first $7 offer.

I was all set to leave empty handed after my stroll, when I saw a guy with a pile of junk parts and some really rusty tools. Found the little Ridgid for $1 so it wouldn’t be a shutout.

Last row there was a stand that typically has no tools. Almost overlooked it but glad I spotted a table of tools. Again, all really poor condition, like junkyard picked. All were rusted, weathered, or broken. There were two additional bins not on display on the table so I asked and I dug in. That last stand I found this lot at a fair price.

Kal flare nut socket, broken Craftsman 1/4 rat, Tiger Tools pliers. Ugly wrenches by Kobalt, S-K, Mac.

what remains of a Plomb scraper. Proto Plomb transition wrench (bent), stuck 4” Proto adjustable I freed up, a small nice P&C 100.
DCB9DFD7-ED5B-489B-A2C4-2BED1C074782.jpeg
A handful of interesting Billings. Top one is a tappet marked SPECIAL. I was surprised to find out each end is 3/8”, with one normal end and one beefy end. Very odd. Two 10mm offset (ignition?) wrenches, three other Vitalloy ignition wrenches with the cool raised lettering.

Been after one of these for a while, record 52 1/2. Was in decent condition, but completely striped and cleaned it. Now just need to sort a bench for it. Been a quite few months at the carboot for me, not picked up much.

Those are great, mine is currently off my spare bench. Just passed on one a few weeks ago for $40, which was a steal

On Thursday, I went to what looked to be a good sale, only to be disappointed. A lot of over priced recent Snap-on, but not much in the way of vintage tools, or anything I could flip. But I managed to talk them down on a Snap-on ratchet, and picked up an interesting set of Teletype wrenches, made by Armstrong in odd sizes with no model numbers.

I stopped at the Restore on the way home, and managed to pick up a Millers Falls 770 brace, which has a 14" swing, and a boxed Goodell Pratt **** gauge.

On Saturday, I hit a few sales, mostly to get out of the house.

Some oiler needle tips, Plomb LA push through 3/4 ratchet, unused reamer, English needle files, Stanley #78 plane.

an interesting toolbox, MT1 drill bit, Herbrand socket, and a reamer tube.

another restore haul, got several more craftsman sockets but forgot to take a pic before I inventoried them with the rest of my collection. The SK extension fills a spot in the set I got last month with over 1/2 the sockets missing lol

Haven’t been able to make it out much but managed to swing in the local thrift store and picked up a few things.
After some back and forth managed to walk out for $65 with the following.
Craftsman 1/3hp industrial bench grinder. Will probably try to flip it as I don’t really need a 3rd grinder. 4DE59F62-B2EC-421F-9713-35B58F29C5BB.jpeg
Also grabbed an o-ring kit I thought might come in handy, an extended length gardening shovel, box of concrete anchors, some John Deere rivets, USA made driver kit and then 2 number drill index sets that are both nearly complete.

We had to run an errand in Oakland this morning and I spotted an estate sale not too far away that mentioned tools. We came home with a few rusty treasures. Here is the haul.

A single sale today--about 30 miles away on the shore of Canyon Lake. The tools turned out to be less than exciting but I came away with a nice little Craftsman Heritage 4-drawer storage box (5-3/4 x 8-1/4 x 6-1/4) with a needle oiler and some old JFK stamps in it for $3. While in the house I ran across a couple of stamp booklets from the USA pavilion at the 1958 Brussels Expo. On a whim and for $2.50 each, I brought them home. I know absolutely nothing about Philately but these booklets have a variety of US 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 cent stamps that were put together for the Expo. Apparently each country made stamps available. The booklets are labeled B & C in the lower left corner and each has a different set of stamps. Each booklet is "cancelled" on the back and sports the Expo's star logo.

I have that exact same oiler, acquired in a trade with another GJ member last year. :)

Picked this up yesterday at a family run estate sale. Yea, the tool tray is stamped Snap-on on the bottom.

Small eclectic find. Proto 12" Clik-Stop adjustable, Proto 2011 "Corvair Brake Adjusting Tool" (that's got you all over it @d42jeep) and a late model Bonney screwdriver.

I hope to get out this weekend to a couple of real sales but I have picked up a few interesting items recently... A nice set of Audel's books at a sale that I swore had nothing but Christmas ornaments... found these in a shed with a bundle of old comics. Also interesting pliers. Some early Champion DeArment Channellocks, military wire cutters, and a pair of Bernard pliers. The specialty Bernards are always fun to figure out... these are shoe button pliers! https://patents.google.com/patent/US1090191A/en

Duddly found "A nice set of Audel's books."

That's the kind of find that gets me excited. Looks like the full series on interesting subjects. I like tools and books, but books about tools and what they are for and how used are the best.

Misc: Wiss 2DA shears; Speedo Sharpener; PS&W drawknife; Bausch & Lomb magnifying glass /w light

Re-handled. Never seen such a tiny axe head before. It's smaller than a Gransfors Bruks mini hatchet. Looks like a roofing axe, but I don't know.

I stopped in to a hoarders estate sale yesterday, mostly as it mentioned tools in the ad, and while there were some tools, nothing of interest. But I did find some books:
52477203947_a8fcdfb22f_c.jpg
most of which will go into the trade pile, and also a cartridge belt:
52478258173_8df12b5a8b_c.jpg
The rest I found in a couple restores I stopped in on the way home: wood handled radio knob nut driver, pocket hole jig, Blackhawk socket, Snap-on t-handle, and eight crowfeet.

Interesting Ammo belt. Not sire the cartilages would stay well.

I need to redo the ammo loops on my sling for the TC, and the 6 loops on my suspenders for the deer gun

One of the many, many hobbies that were manifest at the estate sale was leather working, and this, while well done, is clearly homemade.

Man, I would love to find a jewlers/watchmakers lathe! Good score.
I have no idea how to use it. It's completely opaque as to if I have all the parts, to what exactly do I use it for... Sure wish I had a complete set of Audel's ;)

I've got to go back tomorrow and see if I can find the motor. Now that would be sweet.

It won;t be a full sized motor, something closer to an old fashioned sewing machine motor. possibly some "gear down" secondary pulley(s) as well

Some similar lathes: http://www.lathes.co.uk/peerless/
Alas no motor. We figure the guy probably picked it himself and probably never had a motor. Well, I guess I'm in the same boat. Good call on the sewing machine motor. Might go down to the local sewing machine repair shop and see if they can't hook me up with something.

an interesting toolbox
Very! WWII for sure. And it's USAAF. The white stenciling 41-K-103-100 is the Federal Stock Number, K for Kit. The yellow stenciling on the lid above that is a Technical Order (T.O.) number. I have several USAAF boxes with T.O. numbers on them, which is roughly akin to a specification. Here is that kit from a 1955 manual, where the older FSN is shown with the new 11-digit FSN that was put into place around 1953.

Got a good Columbian vise today, along with 3 old US-made hacksaws (including a Starrett) and about 50 miscellaneous blades including these packets.

Nice info Lugz. I will probably use it to organize my electrical stuff then.

HKP (of bolt cutter fame ) US HKP 1941 - odd that most of the ones marked this way had a "beak" of sorts

SAT4.jpgSAT3.jpg

Had a nice outing to the last Arlington Va Civitan Market for the year and picked up this North brothers Yankee Tool Set #100. It has a number of condition issues but it really wanted to come home with me.

So it rained in the dark hours a little and then fog, so not a lot out there. One planned YS and one Estate - plus one TOO - all three produced a bit:

Yard sale: Flair wrencre, (Duro and Bonney) a Barcalo DBE, adn a "Gem" style nested hammer/driver set - surprisingly he head is actually brass. its inscribed: "Strike gold with Colgate Tartar control" :dunno: $5

TOO got the little Deathstar ball for a buck (youngest is a Star Wars geek), and some Fleur de lis project I got free for a scoutmasrer buddy

And the Estate sale, for the Wiss Pinking shears, Wood Pestel, jingle bells and mini trees, and the NOS needles - I was after the thrafing tool.
