, 6" slip joints for no other reason than I have never seen the brand before ("Oak Leaf"),
Oak Leaf was a brand of the EC Simmons company, you should find it in DAT next to their other brands like Keen Kutter. (and I own none)

W Enders Also used Oak Leaf, but I only know of on drawknives, cleavers and such cutlery

My dad carried a folding rule like that daily on his jobsites as a form carpenter. I used to slide the brass rule open and write our last name in the groove. I'll have to look and see how many I may have stashed away.

And I'm sure this has been mentioned before but for inside measurements a lot of time I'll **** a 6'' or 12" blade from a combo square to one side and measure back to it with my tape, and add the two together.
Ok fresh from the garage,I went out and looked. I am going to hazard a guess this one was pre-1980 as dad retired in '87 and hadn't worn a toolbelt since well before then, although likely this was in his back pocket daily until he retired. Can't even guess how many I broke as a kid....

Thanks.
Lugz, Love the bone saw.
Thought you would. This one is 14". Old name. Wheeler, Madden, and Clemson (See Pic 1 below). Just posted several photos on the hacksaw thread for wont of a more appropriate place.

/// BREAK ///

The "Oak Leaf" pliers and the Plomb DBE are still soaking, but I also just posted more photos of this morning's finds in their respective threads.

We're taking thoughts on this from riff raff and elitists alike. What it is, is obvious. A rather inexpensively made multi-bits tool. Plastic fluted amber handle. Pot metal end cap and chuck. Steel bits stored inside. Why it is, is another matter. The markings are befuddling us. "TIFFIN, OHIO 1803 - 1953" seems to indicate a sesquicentennial. So, maybe some kind of 150 years celebration give away. The other markings are confounding, though. "WM. O'CONNELL", and "ST MARYS TROOP 45". St Mary's is a Catholic Church in Tiffin. Still there. Troop 45 seems like a B.S.A. troop, but I haven't found a record of one in Tiffin. No mfgr's or brand markings. Does anyone recognize it from the 1950's cheap tool bins?

Here might be a clue, looking for troops in the Tiffin Zip Code found this. Looks like they added some digits. Seems like a 45 near Dayton and Akron both, based on web pages found. Now you just need to contact them, see if they sold it, or it was a troop treat from Mr O'Connell.

Here are photos of the smaller circular/gear/spline/rounding cutters that I am keeping out of the haul of post #5,075. The gear cutters are wired together in the second photo. Also some end mills in the bottom of the box. All of these are for 1" and smaller arbors.

I have an Atlas horizontal mill and a Grizzly mill drill sitting in my shop waiting for me to get them reconnected after moving, and these kinds of cutters are exciting to me. Great find!

Normally, when looking for appealing sales, I check the garage sale section of Craigslist and search for tools. I do this often enough that my laptop goes straight to this when I hit the letter C in the search bar. But, every once in a while, when I am checking for something else I am interested in, I just go to the garage sale section, and I find something interesting that doesn't specifically list tools. And yesterday that was the case! A pretty good sale, actually, with a couple vintage cars, 50-60 years worth of the same people living in the house, people who had all sorts of hobbies, from doll collecting to watch repair. And, so I went and found the following:
52552115452_887908576f_c.jpg
A WWII era Duro socket box with mixed contents, mid sixties Indestro socket box, Proto MFD impact socket case, and a Plomb made ratchet, unmarked. I might go back tomorrow, as there was a lot of supplies that I wouldn't mind picking up, but not a first day prices.

I have a Jet mill/drill (similar if not identical to a Grizzly) which is also waiting for me to set it up. Mine came (used) with zero tooling, not even an arbor. Otherwise, I'd probably have set it up and tried running it by now.

Pretty sure I've already said it, but He (still) *****!

Hit an estate sale today and ended up with some goodies.

Best hits are a $10 Walkman that I can sell for about $80, a Sarsaparilla mid-century DC-3 lamp (look up the values online!), USN pilot log from 1955-56 (pilot later graduated Harvard and worked for NASA), a Williams metric socket set double stamped with Vulcan, 4" crescent adjustable wrench, and a (gold?) plated commemorative Xcelite screwdriver. $68.

I got skunked (Lugz 2022_55) for the first time this year. LEFT-BEHIND included a Stutz wrench ($$$), a near-complete set of Auburn football players ($$$$$), Jorgensen cabinet clamps (poor condition, not interested enough), and an unknown antique bit brace with lots of brass and wood (same).

There was only one local estate sale listed so we drove to Point Richmond to check it out. Only found these. Two Stanley, a crusty Craftsman and a mystery multi tool.

It's the kind of brace that I might pay $20 for if I found it at a sale, if in good shape. I don't recall what I paid for the one I have, but they don't seem to go for a lot considering how old they are, and being fairly uncommon. Condition is important, too, and a lot of them are chewed up around the chuck from pliers or wrenches used to tighten them.

Almost halfway through December thought I better play some catch up...

The 18v oscillating tool and driver I picked outta the dumpster.

Did Kurt make V blocks? I swear it looks like they say Kurt on bottom but I can't really make it out for certain.

A friend gave me this puller. The only marking is "625" cast into the main arm. It is very interesting, because the design goes to great lengths to keep the pull square to the arms. It seems to be a special purpose tool, and is very well made. He thought it might be Navy because of the color, but I am more open-minded as to the source.

^ That is one very serious puller there. I like it.

I would not draw a line between "gray paint' and "U.S. Navy" however.

No markings at all other than "625" ? Off the top of my head, the yoke and the arms do not look Owatonna-ish to my eyes.

Looks like some nice hauls, gentlemen!!

I saw an estate sale that pictured a Snap-on KRA 377A & KRA 59 stack buttoned up with no indication of contents. Took a risk and drove out to the country hoping the contents matched the box and I wasn’t disappointed.

Lack of garage space, the 377’s large bottom bin vs. drawers and the $650 price tag combined to deflate my interest in the stack, but I found several goodies I was willing to enter into negotiations for. Almost nothing in the garage was priced so I gathered my pile, determined my price range and asked the nice lady monitoring the garage to give me a price. With almost no effort on my part, the initial price of $60 dropped immediately to $30 and we both seemed happy—I know I was!

Here's what I brought home:

09 Dec 22-1.jpg

Snap-on:
TK-560 Ignition & Distributor "Tune-O-Kit" Highly oxidized cad plating (1950-55)
MV-71 1/4" Rat (No Date Code)
MV-70 1/4" Rat (1960)
L-710 1/2" Rat (1959)
TRF-7A Rethreader Die Set (1962)
Flare Nut Crowfoot Wrench Set (1965) (207S FRH is the number for the 6pt set--I couldn't find a 12pt set in the catalogs)
SVP-70-K Midget Punch & Chisel Set (1961-62) (C-72B is just the kit bag's number)
A-157A Bushing Driver Set (1962) (Might have been used once!)

Empty S-K socket box
No name wrench clip
TAT 1/2d 5" ext (was attached to the SO L-710 & I didn't notice it was offshore 'til I got it home)
Indestro No. 3411 Ignition Pliers
PL∇MB WF-22 Sliding T and 3020 DOE
Vlchek 4oz(ish) ball peen
No name Tommy Bar
Craftsman Long C Tappet Wrenches No. 1-4
J.H. Williams Group
Two sockets I need to fill gaps
BP-2, -3, & -4 Phillips sockets
Two Ribbed Style wrenches to complete a set

That’s a major you ****! Most would have paid $30 just for one of those items in that haul. Nice work
