And it goes on and on. I guess those are the standard rotozip cases? I have the exact case (slightly dif handle) and get this, my key for the one I had opens the new one.

It's my new luggage.

Schaeffer fountain pens, THIS RADIO, thanks be to (insert garage sale god here) this radio is just fukn badass. It picks up AM FM, AM FM TV, Short wave, CB, whatever Air WB PB might be, and it's a gawdern PA system! It's got full monitoring inputs and outputs and even a momentary light switch for the dial. Not to mention how tuff nuts it's lookin'. Perfect Craftsman saw sharp as all get out. Impact socket sets SAE and M, Proto ratchet, Craftsman corner clamps, well y'all can see...
This haul is crazy! For $125 you did amazing! +1 on the you ***** from me!

Yet another estate auction ,pick up was today. Most if not all of these pics are from the auction. I was only able to get started with 2 of the smaller boxes out of the car and began the task of cleaning, separating, identifying etc. So these are kinda teaser pics...

That's part of it, some I've dispersed already and some is still in the car. Taps and dies, pocket knives, nib style pens, proto ratchet, Craftsman wrenches and sockets, a rotozip, old school Craftsman sander, yards and yards of emory cloth, tube cutters, boxes of jewelry making stuff, lubes and shop fluids.
And get this, an old safe, and I mean it's super old, it's got what looks like the Revolutionary war USA eagle on it. I couldn't fit it, I'm picking it up next day or two. I'm beat and going to bed, holy hell boys.
Me thinks meeting the owner was a test of sorts. Congratulations on earning trust that led to a great haul.
At least part of your welder appears to be a carbon arc torch - for gouging/cleaning old welds. They were usually an accessory on larger setups. They love power and put out an incredible amount of light but get the job done.
Market for the multi-band radios has been pretty hot for past several years. I've kept a couple of the best and flipped the rest for a tidy profit. Operational condition and cosmetics are important, of course.
Oh - and in case it hasn't sunk in - you truly do ****.

Long day, late report (Lugz 2022_56) on today's find.

20221215_121720.jpg

It's going to need some repair!

(BTW, it may be Eagles green, but other than this classic Philly beer (1840 to 1987), the name "Schmidt" only means one other thing to Philly people, and that's the greatest third baseman in history.)

Good to see all the late year finds coming in, warms a persons heart.

I hit two Restores and an estate sale today, with decent results. From the first Restore:
52566480903_8f0314825c_c.jpg
Two drill bits (one MT1 and one square drive), Mayhew roll pin punch, Goodell Pratt combo square, Proto 11/32 socket, and two Armstrong wrenches.
From the estate sale:
52566235949_bec35227a4_c.jpg
vintage tin of leather dressing, shims, Craftsman screw starter, two socket chisels (one in great shape, the other... not so much), two light bulb sockets, Stanley boxwood ruler I haven't seen before, drill bits in packaging, and a file in packaging.
From the other Restore:
52565489982_6506e148bf_c.jpg
Spintite spinner, VACO ratcheting driver (with the bits!), Lectrolite DBE, and a vintage box of BB's. Here is the other side of that box:
52566482758_f005634d2f_c.jpg
The best part was all of these stops were fun, not many people around so I could dig into things and really check out what was there.
All of it cost me $19

Picked up a 5 volume set of Automobile Engineering published by the American Technical Society. The books are a little rough, but still holding together and complete, so I figured they were worth the $10 that I paid for them. Lots of interesting stuff, including internal combustion engines, electric cars, steam cars, motorcycles, drive trains of all kinds, and shop info.

Probably my last estate sale of the year. Bose Wave Radio/CD player, Craftsman crown top utility knife and a small fishing tackle box. Will have to get a new remote for the Bose, but they’re cheap, even direct from MFR.

We found an estate sale 6 minutes from home. There was no mention of tools but we stopped by anyway. Most of the tools we found were in a kitchen cabinet.

Two estate sales today, and another $20:
52568513030_017e355691_c.jpg
The first sale was on a pretty nice old piece of property, with two shops and a garage. And a whole lot of cheap tools, along with sub freezing tempertures! But I really like this company, small and pretty local, they mostly due the sales that other comanies won't do, and they are just nice people. Anyway, a Holocrome box full of hex keys, Stanley Yankee driver, solder, and two Craftsman Metric sockets.
52567604047_b1397f585f_c.jpg
I, in usual Beemer fasion, probably should have hit this sale first, but... In any case, parking was horrible even showing up 2 hours late, and there was still good stuff there: Whitney punch, cheapo igition wrench set I got for the roll, Irwin speed bore in perfect box, Super Oil!, Makita chuck w/ 1/4" adaptor, and a vintage hex key set. No name on the last, but no way I was gonna pass it up!

Love the motorcycle illos!
oval brush (maybe GMTK?)
Maybe.

The GMTK oval sash brush (for cleaning tools and parts) was a No. 5. The handle, including the ferrule, should be 9-1/2" long. The ferrule should have no less than three (3) pins. The bristles, which were to be vulcanized early war, later war not (due to rubber conservation), were 2-3/4" long. In terms of shape, the bristles were 1-1/6" in diameter at the ferrule, and 1-7/16" in diameter at the top and they should be "laid to a chiseled edge", not "domed". Here is the way I depicted the brush's shape in actual size outline on my fold-up easy-check flea market GMTK guide...

20221217_034808.jpg

And if you really want to nerd out, here is a link to a deep dive I did on them on G503.com many years ago (I am Wingnutt there), aided by my copy of the 1939 Federal Standard Stock Catalog.

The oval sash brush is a funny subject. These types of brushes are everywhere in the wild, and almost every single one kinda sorta looks right, or looks the part, especially when it's nestled with the other tools. But it's one of the more challenging items to find in terms of period- and spec-correctness. I have been fortunate to find one with the actual spec number ("H-B-491") and the number ("No. 5") stamped on the handle (which you can see if you click on the link I provided above), and another with the FSN ("38-B-3345"), leaving no doubt about their authenticity. I have had others with postwar FSN's. But mostly, it's a lot of 'as close as you can get' and no markings.

Some keepers (1945 Snappy 1/2F-to-3/8M adaptor, NB/Crafty 3/8-drive uni joint, and LIQUID CARBOLIC tank wrench) and trade fodder (I'm no carpenter!) in this morning's frozen flea finds (Lugz 2022_57). The bolt cutters were a throw in for me recommending a seller remove a valuable item from a $1 table. The blades are chewed to hell, but it's really early with some cool markings I have never seen before.

It will be a little bit (my shop is a total disaster via rearangement right now) but I might have some jaws for those bolt cutters. A bit rusty if I remember, but unused.

As usual, I LEFT BEHIND more than I brought home, to include a Starret vise (not enough margin to flip) and a Ford pedal car that was way out of my league.

Yesterday’s estate sale promised a lot of old hand and power tools and it did not disappoint. Unfortunately, I didn’t make the first wave inside and by the time I got into the garage, it was already a feeding frenzy. I had a short list of things I had seen in the photos, but most were gone or had Sold signs on them already—including a nice leg vise, some interesting hatchets and an odd adjustable wrench worthy of inclusion in Lugz’s Order of Oddfellows thread. I put them all out of my mind as I started bagging cool things that were not pictured in the ad.

16 Dec 22a.jpg

Starting with the tools on the left:
  • Long C Craftsman (BE) extension
  • Mossberg made Ford 5-Z-829 ratcheting wrench
  • Ford DOE with Forged M—Mossberg?
  • Frank Mossberg 623 5/8” Socket Wrench
  • Tappet wrench stamped Chrome Vanadium Steel 17/32 x 7/16
  • No Name Hex Ratchet
  • No Name ½” non-reversing ratchet with “Raise” and “Lower” stamped on opposite sides instead of On/Off. I had hoped it was part of the Hinsdale set below, but it’s too long to fit in the box.
  • Couple of finger planes
16 Dec 22b.jpg

Right Side:
  • Very nice unmarked wood auger handle with a Greenlee auger bit No. 62-.
  • Collection of mini screwdrivers and turn screws. My fav is the middle one from Goodell-Pratt. The others are unmarked.
  • Hose nozzle marked only “Boston”
  • Double “Callipers” from P. Lowentraut, Manufacturer of Mechanic Tools & Skates, Newark, N.J
  • L.S. Starrett 4” Outside Calipers
  • Mossberg 490 Alligator Wrench w/screwdriver point
  • L.S. Starrett No. 530 100’ tape
  • Keuffel & Esser Favorite Wyteface 100’ tape
  • Lufkin 6’ advertising tape from Allied American Bank of San Antonio
16 Dec 22c.jpg

Finally:
  • S-K Chrome 4097 Socket Set—Complete
16 Dec 22d.jpg
  • Hinsdale 13B ½” Socket Set—missing non-reversing ratchet, drive plug and “Long Extension”
16 Dec 22e.jpg16 Dec 22f.jpg
  • I forgot to put the Clayton-Lambert blow torch in the group shot. Pat date Jan 4th, 1921.
16 Dec 22g.jpg

Out the door for $20. I’m heading back this morning to see if I can find the missing Hinsdale parts while keeping my eye out for any more treasures!

Interesting. :headscrat In the parlance of the sign-making business, a "sash brush" is a colloquial term for a "fitch"; a long-handled affair with a long ferrule holding rather short bristles capable of holding a lot of paint. Especially suited to painting wood-framed double-sash windows, which required copious amounts of paint, and not at all resembling Fred's example above.

That HKP find is quite interesting.... Hypo what? :headscrat

Possibly a scaffold wrench, or similar

Blocky one on right looks like my Great Neck that I was hoping was a Sargent Little Shaver. Mine has a number cast under the blade, think it’s 023. Left could be Millers Falls or Stanley , both very similar.
Right Side:

Possibly a millers Falls #1, gotta look
  • Collection of mini screwdrivers and turn screws. My fav is the middle one from Goodell-Pratt. The others are unmarked.
The chefs hat, a tough choice for favorite vs the honey scooper
  • Double “Callipers” from P. Lowentraut, Manufacturer of Mechanic Tools & Skates, Newark, N.J

I have a poorly stamped pair, that took a while to decipher

Nice haul for very little money, I’d be going back too.

While I recover from TKA, SigO went out yesterday and acquired some of her favorite things.
