Well I was able to get the 70's Craftsman picked up and the garage cleaned up enough to squeeze it in. The sets of sockets are Craftsman ,loose sockets are Cornwell,Williams,SnapOn and Mac, most of the wrenches are C'man raised panel. The biggest surprise was the Starrett 6" double square ,still in plastic. Other notables are the spintite handles with interchanging bits, I was happy to find the Craftsman ratchet wrench ,that size makes up a 5 piece set. The lower box is dated 1-74, I will assume the top is as well, the inside where the stamp would be is covered in black contact paper,as is the drawers.Tomorrow is another day. That shelf is probably the cubby portion of a roll top desk. They are built separately, and come out as a section.
Yes that is what I believe. The roll top makes the most sense because of the 45 deg chamfer on the back which, presumably would be to let the tambour slide by. It would be really cool to find out which mfg. it came from. I'll look harder at it in the next few days.

You guys and the Guitars! I love music and tried to make progress on playing back in HS. the most I can say is "I play at the guitar" (and mandolin, and banjolin, and...)

17 Stringed instruments in the house. 20 wind, 15 percussion (at least), plus an accordion.

No I don't play them all or even try, but I could host a heck of an acoustical jamb session!

My two daughters are the musicians; Both play flute, the youngest, other flute like instruments and the french horn.

Back on track..., picked up a vintage book and ice pick/bottle opener (Lugz 2022_59).

Love the ice pick!

I can play the radio, which is nice.
This is the end of my musical skill too.

My score, hinted at above, was a stash of tropical wood from a FBMP ad. Buddy saw it, in my hood, suggested I contact the guy. 2 day sale while they packed up FILs horde, trying to lighten the load. I was shown it mid day yesterday, made contact late yesterday, and he would have pix to me today. Pix looked interesting, but I had to work, so my wife went, and sent me some pix, and by marking up pix, she grabbed me some goodies, and got a good price as well.

Here are the goodies, some 8/4 x 9” wide x 6’ long poplar boards, a 4/4 white oak square, 6’ long, a 4/4 maple glue up about 19” wide x 6’ long, a bunch of 8/4 x 24” long x 4-6” wide shorts, and a bunch of 4/4+ off cuts. Oh, and some of the maple is quilted.

...an acoustical jamb session!
Now I'm picturing a little battery-operated device affixed to every doorway. Every time the door is opened or closed, a few seconds of an acoustic guitar riff plays. That's actually a brilliant, though unintentional idea. I am claiming first use, copyright, trademark and filing for a patent immediately. I will split the proceeds with you! :)
But he also plays bass, cello, ukalale,...
Aloha! Those Hawaiians and all their danged vowels! :) Seriously, finding a ukulele at a flea market has been on my wish list for a couple years now. They went through a little craze a few years back and now that it has died down a little, I think I'd like to give it whirl.

Lugs, I hate to be bearer of bad news, but I’m pretty sure musical entry alerts have been a thing since people started hanging bells on doors. Wouldn’t mind hearing a little Ozzy when I walk into a room though.:deathmeta

Now that I think about it, you might be on to something here:headscrat Licensing might be an issue..lol

Yep, and built into security systems now, with passive IR, etc. But do they play a riff from the Skunk Baxter solo on "Bodhisattva" and have a cool play-on-words brand name like "Acoustic Jamb Session"? :)

Pffffft!
Anybody got a jerry can I can borrow?
This sounds suspiciously like the words of a man who has run out of gas!

Ever notice part of the Bodhisattva solo and happy days theme song sound a lot alike?
Oh hell yeah. Rock Around The Clock. That's the Denny Dias solo. There are two. Skunk Baxter plays the one at the end. The whole song is a blistering homage to the early sock hop rock sound. It's Bill Haley and the Comets as hep cats with a wiseass Buddhist lyricist. Lol

I played clarinet, trumpet and saxophone back in the day (middle school through college). OK, I could fake my way through a song or two per instrument, does that count?

Now that I'm in my 50s, I really wish I could play a Les Paul. Not sure that I have the time, patience or attention span to see it through, though.

I like concerts!

Happy Days theme was just as good as Steely Dan?

/ducks incoming flak
I didn't say that..lol Just that there were some similarities in some of the riffs.

Perfect description. I forgot they changed the the theme song after the first or second season. It originally opened with Rock Around The Clock and closed with Happy days. Then they opened and closed with Happy Days.

A couple things...
#1 - what a great set of automotive books posted a few pages back!

2 - I may have a problem... I noticed a familiar looking socket set with stamped steel sockets in an estate sale ad and could not help myself from picking up my third Starrett socket set. (no i did not pay the $50 they were asking) I originally thought the wooden box was not original but a very faint Starret decal showed up upon cleaning it. I was also happy to see the sockets were stamped with the Starrett "Circle S" as one of my sets included Mossberg stamped sockets.

It cleaned up nicely and I now have to decide how far to go with the restoration of the box.

Not a sale but with the snow and ice shutting everything down for the rest of the year I figured a "liquidation" might fit in here.

Lent a friend some of my shop floor and a dozen tables to reorganize his recently acquired businesses assets and ended up saving some stuff from the trash.

Pretty much just a bunch of random stuff with little to no value but I tend to hoard useless but interesting stuff or stuff I might have a use for but probably won't ever use.

Also got some more interesting stuff like this Black and Decker Cyclone drill(surprisingly in good shape and both batteries are good). Plus some stainless dishes, forceps, number punch set, little rail section, emergency glass hammer, and an old fire suppression pull.

Also some curiosities; magnifying glass, glass vial in brass clamp(pretty sure what it is/what's in the vial but I'm not experienced in the field, also it was in a pile of loose metal parts and surprisingly didn't get cracked after 20+ years), and mystery light pen(alligator clip plugs in back and light is in tip, from Pye Barker "CTester").

Nice find! Maybe we can do some horse trading one day, Duds. I've got some duplicates in a few of my Roaring 20's wood box sets, but have not yet had the good fortune of running into a Starrett. They have a very distinctive knuckle joint.

In case you don't realize, that was prior military. That sticker on the lid is a Federal Stock Number.
Thanks for the clarification. I know the place mostly deals with government liquidation stuff so there's a high chance most of it was military at one point. I went for the cabinets but then started looking around and found the sockets and box and worked it into the deal. There was another loose piece of paper in the set that had numbers for each item but it was in poor condition.

Congrats to Beemer and Smoke!
...a vintage tool board, complete with Avon tools,
Every year I've worried that it's going to be too difficult of a responsibility for hosts to keep the string of unique trophies going, and every year my worries have been proven to be for naught in dramatic fashion! Well done! (And as an aside, I actually gave my son, our mailman, a vintage Avon postal service jeep decanter, NOS, in NOS box, for Christmas this year! :))

Thank you, everyone! I shall hang this award with pride in my shop, and keep my wife away from them, as she loves perfume.

Maybe I will refill them with Hoppe's, Kroil, 3in1, and Evaporust. Scents that I would love if my wife wore them!

MERRY XMAS TO ALL YOU LOVERS OF CHEAP FINDS AND EXCELLENT TOOLS!!

Way to go to both Beemer and Smoke!! Also hats off to Old Radar for hosting and making the trophy. I'll admit I was shocked to see my name on either list, this time of year I'm usually on the lump of coal/naughty list. I did have a good late rush this year, not even enough to vote for myself ,but suffice it to say I couldn't be pickin' without Garage Journal.

Congratulations BMWRD0! Looks like we each had a hand in getting some votes in on each other’s behalf.

I am honored and excited to be next years host. I must admit the GS sale thread is my favorite thread on this forum of all time and you guys don’t disappoint. I will post the linkage to the new thread in a few days.

Congrats to Beemer on your PotY selection and to Old Radar for the fine craftsmanship of the "major award"!

Congrats to Smokeshow as well! Welcome to the long and distinguishable line of thread hosts. As Outlaw noted, it is time-honored tradition to launch the next year's thread at close to midnight on New Year's Eve so that Outlaw can continue his tradition of posting "In before midnight!" from his West Coast digs. Many of us wait up to see it, too, of course.
