Hit up an estate sale on Friday, guy was a filmmaker and also had 3 vintage International Scouts in good condition. Scouts were roped off so couldn't look at them. I scored a $15 box full of buffing supplies, a Weatherguard hardware box full of electrical supplies, International Scout v8 valve covers and a few other odds and ends. Can't pass up a $1 full gallon of Simple Green!

I’ve been spending a lot of time traveling to visit family, vacations, working on the Chevelle, and purging some of my collection for a narrower focus, so I really haven’t been going to any sales. I have done some trades here with some awesome members, and I’m grateful for that. However today on my way home from working on the car, a neighbor was having a moving sale and I had to stop.

I scored an incredible set of Kenwoods in perfect condition for $25. He threw in the subwoofer and surround speaker for free, I know nothing about them other than they are Infinity brand.

I’ve wanted a set of these Kenwoods for a long time. They shake the house and I don’t even have any power behind them yet.

Finally has a good weekend of finding yard sales. But first my picks from the Springfield Swap Meet.

First, a brand new Klein clamp on multi-meter. I have been having to test capacitors alot lately and my fluke doesn't have that capability. Paid $40 but I needed it so I didn't mind.20230903_172732.jpg

Then picked up my first Versa Vise for $28.
20230903_172916.jpg
And finally my best purchase of the weekend, a Branson ultrasonic cleaner with heater for $20!
20230903_172723.jpg
Then yesterday I hit a few yardsales and found a variety of things.
Two bottles of super blue.
2 Proto and 1 Snap on adjustable wrench, an SK 1/4" extension, a pair of Mac push pin pliers, and a set of Starrett radius gauges. Total paid $17.
20230903_173034.jpg
And picked up this drill press mill table. Not sure of the manufacturer.
20230903_173053.jpg
And then today, I ran across a yardsale that consisted of 3 buildings loaded to the rafters. Everything had to go. Unfortunately, his prices weren't bad, until I tried buying Snap on wrenches. He wanted gold prices for those. However, I was able to pick up this single shot 12 gauge needing a little love for $20.
20230903_173956.jpg
And the variety of tools here, I paid $13 for total. 4 cans of 134a, 2 tiny anvils, a Snap on brake spring tool, a 1/4" Snap on breaker bar, and a locked up Snap on ratchet that he gave me for nothing. He also mentioned other guns he may be selling soon.
20230903_173950.jpg
All in all, not a bad weekend at all.

My neighbor and I were almost shut out Saturday due to rain. All of the sales we tried had the merchandise covered with plastic tarps. I managed to find this Plumb Claw hammer at a Stateline, NV sale.

Picked up some treasures last week.
A Visgage viscosity comparator made by Louis C Eitzen in New York Not really sure of age, but doesn't show zip code. (Looks like a first for Garage Journal. Doesn't come up in search at all) Patents are from early fifties, so between then and zip code date.
Also a pouch with bottles of oil marked from 10W to 60W (I assume for comparison sampling) The bottle lids are marked The Cleveland Leather Goods Co.
Dietzgen slide rule 1767P National
National Twist drill screw thread gauge
Cast iron army man. Looks like it was buried for a long time. Very rough and rusty.
Edit: added twist drill gauge pic

Ouch! Looks like someone used the edge to pound nails!
Yep Not happy about that
Sharpen the notches and refer to them as "serrations" or "rope cutting notches" . It's sad when people abuse cutting edges.
My thought exactly
That looks like turning screws damage to me, either way sad.
Very likely. the steel seems very hard/brittle

I will say this thing is ****** sharp as found. Like shaving sharp.

Oh, my! I've been trying to score a map cabinet for decades and somehow they always elude me. What a score! I don't think I've ever seen a wooden one - any chance you could tell us more about those?
The ones I have are/were made by "Hamilton" and are probably the most popular map/flat files out there in both oak and steel. The most popular size is approx (outside dimensions) 47" x 36" x 16" for each set of 5 drawers. They are "modular, meaning they are made to stack on each other as high as you like. Bases and tops were available separately - these tend to be much more difficult to find. The wood cabinet carcass was oak with maple drawer runners. Attached is a photo from a 1931 Hamilton catalogue-lower left shows the early map cabinets.

Pexto - just curios where are you located?

These are in my store in the back shop - the two upper sections have 3 deep drawers - very unusual and very hard to find. The wood top beat up on the corners (wear and tear) and the idiots before me used magic marker to label the drawers.

Was leaving the campground today and saw this by the dumpster, I figured it was empty, but it wasn’t, don’t know what I’m gonna do with the stuff in it because I don’t fish.

I don’t have enough patience for fishing, probably just toss it in a container and stash it away for a different time or something.

Todays junk store run
Price free
You ****! What kind of junk store gives their junk away for free?

@bluebolt ***** for a $1 gallon of Simple Green!

@Raineman ***** for the Kenwood speakers!

@freudianfloyd ***** for the Versa Vise!

I have just enough patience. Caught this guy on Wednesday.
That's some pretty high test line you're using, Don!! :ROFLMAO:

Here's my small haul from Friday: $10 for the lot.

A fairly boogered up CM 1/4 case contained the five =v= sockets, two Snap-on adapters (1/4 to 9/32 & 1/4 to 3/8), Husky & Duro Chrome 8pts
plus the miscellaneous drivers, POS gimlet, scriber and Oxwall 1/4 ratchet.
The ignition plier is Camron-US. Never heard of it but it seems well built.
Moving to the right is a cute little 1/4" Duro-Chrome obs wrench and a Long C DOE i need for my Long C tool chest
Wartime Herbrand 3/8 and newer Van-Chrome era M-5 ratchets.
Proto Mfd 4749, & 4761 extension
Newer Craftsman - probably offshore

Lastly, what I thought was a Wright 1/4 rat because of the rubber handle, but now I'm uncertain. There are no maker's marks and I don't see any in the catalogs with the knurled head. Can anyone shed any light on it?

That rubber grip looks like an add on to a Chinese ratchet. Though the quality looks better than that. Maybe there is a name on the knurled part.

I'm with you. I love camping, have zero patience for fishing. I've caught two fish in my life, a small sunfish and something that looked like a prehistoric catfish.

I MIGHT enjoy going offshore fishing on a guided tour (you know, pay someone who knows what they're doing to take me where the fish actually are). Of course, I'm FAR too cheap to pay for that, LOL...

All I caught last week was a tow when I ran out of gas lol26D8B005-D33B-4462-A00F-259911675519.jpegEAD959AC-32A6-4936-BF5D-9D1C5864BD09.jpeg

Well, that's embarrassing...

@Old Radar: I know this isn't helpful, but that grip reminds me of one on a bike handlebar that I had as a kid.

Ah, a Visgage!
Used them quite a bit on engine room watch in the USCG.
New, unused oil is measured against the sealed sample and recorded in the log.
Drawn samples are tested and measured against the sealed sample to determine if there is fuel oil dilution or thickening present.
Both samples need to be the same temperature, 100°F I belive. The oiler on watch was the guy with that stuck in his armpit.
Please PM me if you want to part with that.

Not a garage sale per se, rather an estate clean out guy being evicted offering $5 “Fill a box”. Sadly someone had cleaned out hundreds of sockets an hour before me but left these goodies behind. A lot of Proto and all interesting USA tools.
