Small haul this morning (Lugz 2023_09) including some antique 'boys' books, a bonafide WWII jeep wrench (FairmounT ISN 25), and a novelty advertising ye olde brown jug liquor bottle handle screwdriver, my second.

Nobody wanted this Toledo draftsman chair
Hmm. That's the second time I have seen that Toledo logo in the past couple weeks. Were there any other data plates on it? @MR.X just found two with WWII era 'War Dept' plates. And that looks like OD green on the legs. Check 'em out here.

Yessir! The Rushton Boys series is also classic, turn of the century, though. Posted Missing is about famous shipwrecks.

Nice find!
Lugz already researched this over on G503
Indeed he did. Now if he could only find his! :)

Pretty slow tool wise in these parts but alas some meager findings from the few not so great sales over the last month.

Vanadium Tool Co. metric wrenches 8-13mm and yes the 10mm is there. Vanadium brake tool. I don't often see Vanadium stuff around here. Snap-ON P2 driver, Williams 1/4" M-52 ratchet.

Xcelite mini nutdriver set and old school safety glasses.

I just saw one of these at the flea market today. What is the deal with this?

And on Saturday, I made the rounds of a few decent sounding sales. All but the last were on the second day, so dealing but not at half price yet.
52727569244_5c63eb245c_c.jpg
The first was a hoarder sale that I had been too a few weeks ago, also. Here I found some literature of interest, a North Bros. brace, Starrett scraper, Williams and Armstrong ignition wrenches, Philadelphia Manufacturing company socket box, paper shotgun husks, vintage double sided razor blades, and a brace tap.

52728006363_64a07065d4_c.jpg
Next stop, I found a pair of Snap-on spinner, sharpening stone in box, mill edging tool in box, and a Brown and Sharpe 2-3" micrometer.

52727534451_fe22291786_c.jpg
After that, I hit an estate sale that didn't open up until 11 a.m. (grrr...) which produced an 1/8" pipe die, Snap-on vacuum grip miniature pliers, a magnifier, some Gunslick, and a Proto box, which contains:
52727791939_67674f81e1_c.jpg
an unused 10-ton puller set. I had to pay a little for that, but it is going to be flipped for profit, so I don't really mind. I do really hate sales that don't start until a way later time than all the other sales that day, as it means backtracking and messing up my timing.

And at the last sale I found these:
52727558979_e8affcf3b0_c.jpg
A rural tractor repair shop was closing, with a lot of good tools up for sale. Not too much I wanted to deal with but I picked up this SK 1/4 socket set and as many reamers as I could grab. I paid more than I wanted for the SK set, but the reamers were cheap enough that I am OK with that.

Nice. If the decal on the outside is salvageable (I can't tell from your first photo whether that rust is just obscuring the decal or the decal is missing in the dark spots), and you're not keeping, put it in the Lugz pile for future trade considerations. My interior decal is mint, but it was completely stripped on the outside. I was thinking about a repro. As for the clasp, it was a **** design. They are notorious for popping.

Yard sale/estate sale of a woman emptying out her folks home. I went for the grinder and found the Reed 204 and a handful of wrenches that I'll give to my step son who just started apprenticing as a mechanic. $55.00 total. Cleaned up the grinder today.20230305_151147.jpg 20230218_100127.jpg

Nope, no other indications of Government procured War Department issued item....
It turns out the couple that had the estate sale were moving to an assisted living center....
They couldn't use the basement anymore because of the 15 stair steps causing issues for them...
He was a former architect by trade, so I'm betting he originally purchased this chair new...
@MR.X has a fantastic find....

As part of my Friday haul, I got a chunk of steel plate 12-1/4" x 10" x 1" thick @ 34.75 pounds...
I just looked at it a little closer and it turns out one side is blanchard ground flat....
Wasn't expecting that...

Picked up this Duro-Chrome box and mixed sockets over the weekend. It was cheap enough that I didn't bother to inventory it before pulling out my wallet. But I have never seen sockets like these before. Surely someone here knows what they are.

The rest of the box had mixed stuff. Giller, Snap-on, Indestro Super, Proto, Challenger.

No, the two pronged ones are for packing glands, the square are for different sized valve taps, and so on. Check out my refrigeration thread over on the vintage side for more pics of these, and other refer tools.

Nice find! From the early 50's, if you're curious. And here's what was in the set.

@dbovair - you ****! These are awesome!
Also got these two wooden hardware organizers. All of the drawers have something in them. Paid 5 dollars each 28CCC281-52E4-488A-BE9B-15D423ED9F94.jpeg
@cmccuist1 - you **** - nice haul!!
Had a good day at a yard sale in Clute, TX this morning. I got 10 lbs of E6013 weld rod, rod container and 2 - S579G Starrette snap gage sets for $20. Also, an oxy/acetylene rig with 2 cutting torches, welding tips, and rose bud for $60. Finally, a Hobart auto-darkening hood for $10. The guy had $100 on the bottles and torch and had all the other gear in a separate box. I asked if the box was included and he said, "yea! In fact, just give me $60 for the lot and it's yours!" Couldn't pass up that deal.

Picked up an Atlas/Craftsman 3996 12x36 lathe off local classifieds. I've been looking for a lathe for a long time that fit my criteria: good for a novice, not too big or too small, local, complete, with tooling, in good shape, and decent price. I was really happy to pick this one up for $1350. This one's in really great shape and has both chucks, milling attachment, steady rest, drive plate and dogs, extra motor, misc. bits, centers, etc. Was a bit of a bear getting to the guy's garage since his 150' driveway has no way to turn around at the end with a trailer so I had to back all the way in there, which I'm not great at!

It should be from around 1970, and I bought it from the second owner. I'm pretty stoked to start making some chips, and it's cool this will pair with my Atlas 7B shaper I picked up a month or two ago. Just need to do some serious rearranging in the garage and get it against the wall and leveled. Then get a quick change tool post to go with the holders the lathe came with.

BD, While Sears sold that same lathe under the Craftsman name (I have one), that one was not. Atlas/Clausing sold them under their own brand.

BD55, that one has the thicker ways, which makes it somewhat more rigid than the earlier version with the same appearance, and also the Atlas/Craftsman 10" and early 12" models. You got a good deal, and lots of tooling.

Here is mine widening the seal grooves on a 7" diameter log loader piston:

It has been cold, snowy, and wet lately. Sunday it was just above freezing, windy, and raining. Not many people at the monthly flea market, with few customers and also fewer vendors. I made my rounds in about half the usual time. Here are the finds:
Flea Market.jpg
Proto Los Angeles 5450 ratchet. Works good, but not abused or pretty.
Lectrolite "Tru-Fit" DBE's:
305 13/16 x 7/8
303 5/8 x 11/16
302 1/2 x 9/16
P&C DBE's:
2520 9/16 x 5/8 (normal flat shank model)
2518 1/2 x 9/16 (round shank that was flattened a little) This obviously was a round shank wrench that was flattened at the factory, perhaps to fill an order when they were short on the proper forging?
Billings "Vitalloy" 7723 DBE 3/8 x 7/16
Armstrong "Armaloy" combo 1/2
Bonney "Bonaloy" 1164 combo 5/8
John Deere (Bonney) TY3500 DOE 1/2 x 9/16
Ford DOE 7/16 x 1/2
Sargent KS7782 flat nose pliers 5"
Starrett No. 66 feeler gauges

The Sargent pliers were so cute I couldn't pass them up!

A few freebies.

81 yr old neighbor of my mother is planning to move out of town with his girlfriend. He told Mom to let me know his tools had to go.

I went over there and he let me look around. He didn’t really want to price things. I was going to buy his Des Stephan vise plus these 5 tools, but he wanted half of what a new vise costs, however much that might have been on a random internet search.

He had sentimental attachment to the vise and workbench as they were his father’s. I made an offer on the vise but he turned it down. The hand tools he let me have. That was pretty cool.39B8E45C-C919-421C-8054-278D3FAEC1DC.jpegE9F16533-4942-4B09-94C7-3F2339054DE7.jpeg
