We had a decent haul at this morning’s estate sale in Orinda, CA. Plenty of pre or early war S-K tools. More pictures to follow.

I picked up this auction item today.
Stewart-Warner hand tachometer and the tin can it lives in. By the logo it seems to be from between 48 and 55.
The instruction sheet was last revised 11/44.

Not much for garage sales around here, and no regular flea markets, but I got lucky at a local on-line auction. Box of assorted BA taps and dies (British thread used by model makers for small steam engines etc.), a new unused digital caliper, probably Harbor Freight quality, and a 10-11" micrometer of unknown quality. But the real prize20230428_160349.jpg20230428_160645.jpg20230428_160530.jpg was a set of 10 adjustable reamers in a wood case, in good shape.

Posting a find from a couple weeks ago for now. Then have this week's that may not be finished (going to take my son out tomorrow).

$10 for all of this. Bluepoint DBE, ChromeXquality DOE, CM DOE that I thought I needed to replace, DI combo (recognize the number), Proto combo, NB Obstruction socket, Plews ID/OD Snap ring pliers with US pat, and world Pat applied for, and the best part...a bearing/gear puller. Looks like a FSN #, but not sure beyond that. I have bearing splitters already, but at least one puller wore the lead screw out, so this is a nice replacement.

OR-You ****

Ditto, @Old Radar ***** (again)...

Finally have something to post for the year! Little one is doing great and growing like a weed! Speaking of weeds I wanted an open cab smaller tractor to help with mowing chores and found this one owner 310 hour John Deere 320 to match my other Deere! Came with the deck, snow blower, wheel weights and 4 suitcase weights. Paid $750 for it and couldn’t be more pleased!

Emuge is manufacturer. Good taps.
M16x1.5 thread, 6H thread class. 6H is a general-purpose fit (see images below)
The middle stuff is probably Emuge's tap line details
HSS-E is high speed steel with added cobalt for hardness at the expense of toughness
TiCN is a coating intended for higher wear resistance and lubricity

Chart of metric thread fit classes:
1682690599757.png

Specific fit example:
1682690562181.png

Similar SAE thread fit example:
1682690568387.png

You ****! All that green and yellow paint alone is worth at least $1k, LOL...

and old beater Schrade knife
How much of a beater? I could be interested...

The first two digits of the CODE are the year of manufacture. Check out the Briggs website for assistance:
I'm not seeing the CODE No. on the one I recently picked up ? I have Model Type and S/N one of those? first 2 of the SN would make sense

On Thursday, I went to the estate sale of a family who had been living in a nearby small town in the same house for over 100 years, and while I looked at all the antiques and other interesting stuff, I managed to find the following in the basement:
52855216862_45e8db9bea_c.jpg
A interesting selection of socket chisels, with makers such as Stanley, James Swan, Witherby, Zenith, etc. A Stanley finish carpentry claw hammer, Winchester driver, among the goodies I found.

Friday, I hit five sales, the first four of which turned out to be busts. The fifth, far out in the country, was a long shot. But after getting smoked earlier, I risked it. There were no pictures, only a vague list of what was for sale, which included both antiques and tools. Here is what I found:
52855216447_2ff3d8f7b2_c.jpg
Toy Sterling engine with manual, Goodell Pratt ratchet drill, Stanley 604 Bedrock type 10, Stanley spoke shave #55, and in the center, an Athol 701 vise. Most of this stuff is a little more rusty than I like, but the rarity of a lot of it was too hard to pass up. I have already gotten things soaking in oil, to loosen up stuck parts and find out exactly what I have, as you can see in the pics. If nothing else, the plane has great knob and totes, and I feel pretty happy with this haul. Oh, the little tin is for cotter pins.

Went to a "By appointment only" sale late yesterday (End of month so I could not "sneak out") I hate these but the pics sucked me in... (About to leave for today's short run...)

Found a few things. I didn't steal them but I didn't overpay either. The Craftsman orange drivers are my first in that color. these would be good for camp tools (I paint all my camp toots with Chevy Orange to minims loss...) but I use my vehicle tools generally. The handels are in super great shape; one shank needs some cleanup.

The rest is Krauter Needle Nose Pliers in need ot an E-rust bah, but are free working, Plvmb combo, old Circle DC (X)Duro DBE and a 10 MM Metric Combo (My first Duro metric) , SO combo:

Rainy weekend in NY. Nothing pic worthy but I grabbed 2 buckets of used baseballs (probably around 100 balls-great for BP with my son) and 2 packs of steel wool at one garage sale for $20. I left and found an estate sale on accident. I was the only one there and asked for the tools he said there's "tons" of them in the garage and away we went. Well his tons and my tons are drastically different and it was 90% Chinese junk but I grabbed a Ford swivel T-handle 6 point socket tool, a Cman -V- 6" 3/8" extension, and an old 6 drawer wooden card catalog from a library that will be used to store baseball cards for $11.

Snap a pick of the card catalog if you can. I've got a soft spot for those.

Is the 22mm a =V= or a -V-? If =V=, those are fairly hard to find. Seems like nobody bought/kept theirs!

Earlier in the week I hit a garage sale. Brought home the craftsman socket rail, partial Kraueter socket set 5/8”-7/8”, ratchet, extensions, adapter, and miscellaneous 1/4” drive sockets and 13/16” spark plug socket. I’m most interested in the bonnet feeler gauge set. Eklind Allen’s, and craftsman T10 driver. If anyone is working on a Kraueter set, let me know if I can help you.

Gotcha. I think I have a -V- as well, still looking for the =V= (for complete-ness sake, but not willing to pay stupid money like ePrey)...

I was on the other side of Boston to see a man about a horse (in this case, an electric one), but we were too far apart on the value of my trade-in. So, I moseyed out of his corral and stopped in at a sale that would normally be well beyond my range.

Second day, so any spectacular deals were gone, but a sawbuck put the following in my saddlebag for the ride home.

Set of four Craftsman 9-6666 frame clamps, marked Pat Pending
Millers Falls 16oz claw hammer
Globemaster DBE, made in India, but clean
Extra long no-name flatblade screwdriver
Bunch of chain loops and shackles, found hanging from a wire up in the rafters over the workbench.

BTW, rafters-over-the-workbench is one of my favorite places to find treasures some old man cared about enough to save and store away for later use. I can identify...

I remember selling those Sterling engines at a hardware store I worked in about 40 years ago.
I've been looking for one of those Goodell Pratt ratchet drills for ages--I have the chain drill attachment that was made to use with it. And the 604 and the vise aren't common either.

Heavy rainstorm, line winds and tornado late yesterday must have kept everyone from coming out this morning.
Craftsman mechanic's 26" toolbox set - 8-drawer top chest, 4-drawer middle chest atop 5-drawer rollaround (w/drawer liners & original keys)
plus
125v variac
plus
125vac --> 28vdc power supply
Box could use cleaning & lube on slides & casters and variac needs new output meter but for $53...
Last week's find was NIB hobo fright auto hose reel for $5.
Week before that was ~15gal compressor and hose for $35.
Timely finds for soon-to-be garage electronics workshop.

Moving our business into a new office that used to be a factory, was given 2 Flammables cabinets and a vintage metal drafting type stand. Not really a garage sale, but I wasn't sure where to post them (other than the vintage cabinet thread)

20230426_130350.jpg20230426_130453.jpg
great score on the cabinets!
fyi - latch keys available thru amazon - just poke in numbers found on the locks and hit "search"...

Parallel calipers are probably a watchmakers tool to help you pin it down a little bit for balancing flywheels or something like that.
Makes sense. The estate sale guy was selling a watchmaker's desk and I snagged them off it. Actually, I'm thinking of going back tomorrow and see if I can't make a low-ball offer on the desk as I want the foot treadle, which might be very cool... though it's a 53lbs of cast iron that's got to go somewhere.

We got out late this morning after I cleaned up a bunch of S-K from yesterday. We found a few items at a Richmond, CA tool sale. My wife liked the Leatherman which I probably would have left behind. My rare tool was the third D-I 1-1/4” socket I’ve ever seen. IMG_8508.jpeg
My wife’s new Leatherman. I guess it needs a different name. IMG_8510.jpegIMG_8511.jpeg

An El Cerrito estate sale only had these two oil cans. At least we weren‘t shut out. IMG_8509.jpeg

Check Amazon, you'll be amazed. We bought an Osterizer ten speed blender with the glass jug at a garage sale for $15. The seal was grungy as expected, but Amazon had them. Later the drive pin broke off and Amazon had those too!

A local neighborhood had a community sale today, mostly drive bys and was a bust. I did manage to get some new scratches on the car though from one who’s owner is apparently okay with their dogs jumping up on cars.

Next was a flea market the next town over. Picked up a couple Lesney Matchbox Super King trailers for the collection and a really nice Arai helmet for my Grandson. Been looking for one and as a result got his first motorcycle ride today (and 2nd).

Next 2 stops were TOO, a partial Indestro set (I have the rest in stock) and a Snap on long hose hook, and a set of luggage for an upcoming trip.

Small but interesting $15 haul today from a big tool sale. It was big, but about 50% was from off shore and the guy was really rough on his tools. I saw what was left of an 18", 1/2" drive breaker bar with a 20 degree bend in it and the head sheared off. It was therefore unsurprising that you couldn't put together more than a few tools of the same brand/era.
I was surprised to find an early 1920s Snap-on 1/2" socket with the overstrike S & O. logo--and then disappointed I couldn't find any more... The picture is strange--I guess the tools cleaned up well and reflected the brilliant blue sky when I took the shot.

Three Duro-Chrome sockets
A really nice Lufkin Millmens tape--the black steel tape is 300 consecutive inches in sixteenths.
A pristine Cornwell 9" FG5 piston feeler gauge, seen in catalogs from 1935-1952.
Blackhawk 69995 3/4" drive Lock-On extension and 19/32 socket.
Another Snap-on TA-3 Adapter, a PP410 Internal Pipe Plug Socket and the S/O overstrike 1/2" hex. The F-10-HG matches @ctuai's above.
MAC X8F hinge handle.
S-K 3/8 hex, 17mm hex bit socket and Diamond S-K 45153 hinge (signed by Mike, crossed out and signed by Gene...)
Walden 4032 hinge handle
Duro-Chrome 4475A 3/8 ratchet
Plomb Pebble DBE and Proto Los Angeles Flare Nut (is it supposed to have a 15 degree offset??)
Unnamed Tommy Bar, CM 1/4" ext and Diamond Caulk Horseshoe Diamalloy 4" adjustable (just can't leave them behind)

Just back from my monthly sales, happy with my finds, I don't usually give prices, but today I will, €20, so a good deal for here I think.

Top left to right, Stanley snap off blades, 2 partially full.
Proto 1212-T 3/8, SK C-24 3/4
Hazet 920 swivel, 900z 3/16w. Flat driver
SK metric 7,9,11,22
Bottom row,
Stanley flat made in can, hurwood
Stanley 199, no name, gedore AF sockets, 7/16, 9/16, 3/4, & 13/16, working on a set of these, one is a dupe.
Name of the internal pipe cleaner is gone from my head... I have and use one occasionally, but you can't change the cutter on it, so this will be a nice upgrade, came with replacement cutters.
2 spanner clips

Ran to an estate sale Friday. A true digger sale. I missed a couple of parts cabinets that went for $50 each full of parts. I walked right past and the guy behind me snagged them. Got a large stack of unopened cloth sanding paper for $10. 20 cans of spray paint, $10. An attic ladder, $30. A tool box full of ratchets and about 100 misc sockets (not shown) for $50. That Craftsman 1/2" is 17" long. Plus a Plomb 1/4? and an old Snap-on 1/2". Also picked up a post vise for $50. I then went back on Saturday afternoon for the last hour of the sale and Picked up another shelf full of paint and goodies for $5. About 40 cans of spray paint, all unopened. Last I offered $10 for the five nonwoven conditioning wheels and two ultra fine Weiler wire wheels. There was only minutes left and she said go for it.
