I spent another 8 hours at the Bandit Shed today, more cleaning and demolition. I did find a can full of milling machine and lathe cutting bits. 40 of them appear to be new or lightly used.

Some nicer newer stuff for a change. A regular had a load of Snap-On and Matco. It’s not often I see his table before it’s picked over. It hit the wallet a bit, but I bought what I thought was priced affordably.

sorry about the dark shots

-Snap-On long trim clip tool
-Snap-On striking prybar set
-Snap-On 1/4 socket driver
- 3 Matco locking ratchets: black standard length and long 1/4”, long 3/8”
-3 Snap-On Dual 80 ratchets: 3/8 flex head, 3/8 standard, 3/8 in 1/4” body.

unkqty, you ****. The Briggs valve spring compressor will pay for what you spent on all the small engine stuff.

Re-acquired this Husky USA 3/8” drive set at a sale. I owned it for a while a few years back. Too nice to leave. If you collect Husky, let me know if I can help you out.

I'm sorting and cleaning Bandit Shed stuff today. This Lyon workbench had legs badly rusted on the bottom and one was practically falling off. After cutting off 5" on each leg I got it usable for now. This a Dremel kitnis missing the rotary tool, I have one or two more in other containers. The old wrapping paper holder has seen better days bit just needs a rod to be useful again.

There was a big community garage sale in our area this weekend, starting today, and wife and I went to a few of them between other commitments this morning. Not much besides baby clothes, toys, and other "pink" stuff, but I did find a 1907 patent Elgin adjustable alligator wrench and another interesting ratchet at the only sale that we bought anything at. Then I picked up my winnings at the local on-line auction, and found that I did better than I had anticipated. In addition to a large bunch of Legos (to use when our grandson comes to visit), I got a rough carpenter's tool box with a Stanley 45 combination plane with most of the set of cutters, a Stanley 140 block plane missing the side plate, and an unmarked corrugated bottom No 7 size plane. They are all a bit rough but can be easily made usable. Also included were a rough quality Disston saw, a couple of wood molding planes, a folding boxwood ruler and some other odds and ends. The other box from the auction included 15 drill bits with Morse Taper shanks, a couple of MT2 centers, a MT2 live center, a spur center, lots of new unused HSS lathe bits plus some carbide ones, and an Iscar cut off tool, and a few things that I haven't figured out yet. Oh, and a 4" 4 jaw chuck that fits my South Bend and Atlas metal lathes.20230511_154342.jpg20230511_154250.jpg

Some of you may not want to look! Here is a pile of Starrett from the Bandit Shed. The micrometers were on the floor and covered in trash, they may not be saveable.

You **** for that chair. I had one that I used (with an old tanker desk), and the tilt function broke, so it is now constantly tilted in the back. People seem to want stupid money for them around here.

I see a Woodruff key cutter (on bag by Iscar cutoff tool), some boring bars for HSS bits (under Iscar box), and a knurling tool (below bag and left of 'India' live center). Not sure if those were the pieces needing ID.

@WisJim ***** for that carpenter's box haul! That's a not-very-common Disston No. 16 Rip Saw made from 1880-1928. You can still see the "5" on the heel meaning it has 5 points per inch. Too bad it's missing the medallion--that would narrow the manufacture date range.

@bluebolt That's a shame about those Starrett mics. Soak them in Evaporust and hope for the best.

@Ben Buck You **** for the free pressure washer--but watch out for that auto-correct feature when you post--squeegee!

@ecotec That's a suckworthy little haul!

The sale today posted a hefty tool horde with several CM rollers and chests. The warning signs were evident in the photos in that they all had masking tape across the drawers indicating they wanted to sell box and contents together with no cherry picking. Most companies don't play this foolish game and those that do are pretty lackadaisical about enforcement. This company actually had the boxes locked! The garage agent offered the idiotic excuse that there were pictures of the contents taped to the boxes. I spoke to the boss and politely pointed out the unlikelihood of anyone handing her $200 without actually handling the contents. I refrained from bringing "A Pig in a Poke" into the conversation... She said she would be happy to unlock the boxes for me. I couldn't help thinking (to myself) what a ridiculous, time wasting task for the boss to get involved in--give the keys to the garage agent or hire additional manpower to monitor the tools. I decided to only have her unlock the roller with pictures of sockets and drive tools. They were all late-model Craftsman. Blah. Probably a decent price with the roller for $200, but it held no interest for me.
Further poking around turned up a small tub with tape measures. The only one that caught my attention was this Lufkin for $1:12 May 23a.jpg12 May 23b.jpg

In the left-behind category, a sample of the PO's wit and the Estate Company's witlessness:

As I mentioned the Bandit Shed deal is I clean it out and take it down and dispose of all materials. My payment is I get to keep everything I find. There was a large water jug of pennies hiding behind other stuff, I checked with owner and was told it was mine. I transferred the pennies to gallon milk jugs for easier weighing and handling. 91 pounds of pennies! After putting them through my credit unions coin sorter for free it came up to $157. I've got about 40 hours of work in this so far and probably double that to go. It will take me a few more weeks. There are still a few goodies to come and probably a surprise or two!

The pennies go into bags, no coin rolls. I did fill the bags up today and they had to change out the bags today so I could finish.

Well I'm supposed to be sorting out Bandit Shed stuff but I saw an interesting Estate sale and went there instead. I scored this Wilton mechanic's vise, an EAZ-LIFT weight distributing hitch and some vintage Craftsman, mostly metric for $92 total.

Pickings have been slim in my parts, out last Friday and Saturday and came up empty at planned estate and garage sale targets. More often that not I remind myself while out to check on my phone for last minute new sales postings on CL & FB Marketplace so no additional sales of interest but spy a FB Marketplace ad for a tool lot. DM him while still out on my travels an luckily he DM'd back quickly and was nice enough to meet up with me while I was still out and about. Had spied that the toolbox was a Vulcan so figured Vulcan Tools and that whoever tools they were was or had been a professional.

Guy about my age of 61 selling off some of his late mechanic father's tools. Lots of sorting required to see if any sets, etc. and didn't end up too bad plus I have a few extra's to attempt to fill in minimal blanks.

All tools SAE unfortunately but given the time period not surprising. Vulcan 1/4" drive socket set, Vulcan 3/8" 6 pt. socket set, Vulcan 3/8" 6 pt. universal socket set, S-K 1/4" socket set.

Misc. Mac and Vulcan sockets and wrenches

3/8" drive Snap-On and Vulcan ratchets, 1/4" S-K ratchet.

You **** for that haul! I also have the same bent-hamdle flex, also Vulcan (via a trade from Pvt Lugnutz). How floppy is the head on yours?
