You **** for that haul! I also have the same bent-hamdle flex, also Vulcan (via a trade from Pvt Lugnutz). How floppy is the head on yours?
Thanks, funny that ratchet is what stood out right away and I don’t think it ever came in a Williams but was only as a Vulcan. Surprisingly the head is very tight so looks like not much use. Don’t see that ratchet very often so one of the reasons for picking the stuff up.

91 pounds of pennies! After putting them through my credit unions coin sorter for free it came up to $157.

The pennies go into bags, no coin rolls.

I would have had someone with young eyes, pull all of the Wheatback, Indian head, and Steel pennies out of that pile at least.

15,700 pennies! That's a lot!

This week hasn't been too bad, some sales and good local auctions. I have been looking for a bigger tool chest to use as a cabinet to mount my little South Bend lathe on, thinking that if I removed the casters it should be a good base for the lathe. I've looked at new ones at Harbor Freight and Menards and elsewhere, and looked a lot on Craigslist, FB, and auctions with no luck until this week. Found a HF US General 54" roller cabinet in red, at a good price, on Facebook Marketplace, and when I went to look at it, the seller asked where I lived and said it would be easier for him to deliver it on his trailer later that evening, than it would be to load it in my truck. So an hour or so later, he rolled it off into my garage. Saved me lots of grief figuring out how to deal with getting it home. So now I am maneuvering it through the stuff in my garage into my shop area where it will end up. I didn't think to take a picture until I had started cleaning up drawers and had taken a couple out.

Outlawmws, I went through a bunch of pennies and didn't find a single one older than 1983. So I assume there weren't many older pennies of
any sort. There were a few dimes and nickles, about 3 bucks worth.

BlueBolt, the Bandit shed has been the mega-est mega pick we've seen on here in a while. And at a cost of just your time and garage space, You ****, like interstellar space level of vacuum. Well done!

Ben's suckage, and the obvious rhyming potential, inspired a haiku!

Ben Buck, well, You ****
For a cool chair but mostly
For free "broke" Honda!

Two estate sales and a handful of garage sales ($57): Revere Ware 8qt, 6qt stockpots; 6-Wentworth 250pc wooden puzzles (1-NIB); IOxygen 42-4 cutting torch; 27 early machine cut nails (1815 - late 1830); Columbian D-63 1/12 vise; Moooi Corks stool (by Jasper Morrison); 11" blue/gray coral; Triner Postal Scale (pre-1919); Richards of Sheffield Kwika-Kut scissors; Henry Disston D-23 crosscut saw; Cannondale Hobo C854 backpack .
Pic 2: Agaitized coral 7"x7"x3".

The winners were the puzzles and the Moooi cork stool. Learned a lot about vintage nails.

I bought that exact Cannondale backpack at a bike shop in 1980. I had it many years. I probably gave it away from being tired of it.

@WisJim ***** for that carpenter's box haul! That's a not-very-common Disston No. 16 Rip Saw made from 1880-1928. You can still see the "5" on the heel meaning it has 5 points per inch. Too bad it's missing the medallion--that would narrow the manufacture date range.
Late here, but the real holy **** "You ****" is for the skewed rabbiting block plane. I've never even seen one in the wild.

You need to get out more. You can see lots at stupid high prices, often missing pieces for still high prices, or rusty as hell for slightly less.

I've seen a dozen at tool swaps, huge antique flea markets, but only one at a GS or ES. And none reasonable compared to a new LN version 10 years ago.

Went to two tool estate sales today in different cities by my two favorite companies. First sale still had a loaded garage, last day of sale. Ran into two of my favorite flea market tool sellers there.

I combed over every nook and cranny for anything of interest. The item I wanted in photos was gone but found a nice pile. Price given was dirt cheap and without looking at my pile.

Second sale was super loaded with tools, huge outbuilding shop. Boxes and trays of tools everywhere. Seemed like the kind of guy with a different tote or box for each task. Most were well used and well weathered, not collector stuff but found lots of scattered Snap-On and other USA.

Found this gem in a tray at the back of the shop. My first 4x6 Crescent! From last weekend's finds to this somebody please pinch me.

In the past few weeks I found a 4" Herbrand, Utica, and a different Utica, now this which was on my wanted list forever. I hope the streak continues.

I don't count Patina, MWTCA, the Crafts auction, or anything else where Martin J. Donnelly, Patrick Leach, or the like might be present as "in the wild". That kind of things is collectors and dealers trading discovered tools among themselves. If I saw one at Brimfield (or if I ever get to go to Alameda) that would be different.

I found both of my Stanley 140 block planes locally, first one at an antique store among the otherwise overpriced miscellaneous block planes ($25 or so) and the other in this box of stuff at a local auction. I've found quite a bit of odd, unusual and downrite rare tools locally, small town Western Wisconsin. Gotta keep looking.

I'll add that back in 2000ish I saw an ad that the local weekly estate auction was going to have a bunch of tools and planes for sale, and went that Thursday with high hopes. Lots of guys at the preview looking at the tools. Listening to some of them kibbitz, I realized that it was Leach, Roger Smith and every other online tool dealer I had ever heard of discussing the offerings. That evening, I saw the moment when tools left the wild.

Wake up early enough to get a low street number. The usual suspects will cheat. They will grab street numbers for each other. Being in the first 5-10 is especially important in a small house where they only allow so many people in at once.

If you get there first, and you don’t want to do the street numbers… wait until the second guy gets there… and ask him if he is doing the street numbers… and ask for numbers 3 and 4.

A good excuse for not doing street numbers is “I have to drop my kid off at school, so I can’t stay”. Then, you can go home, make coffee… chill out at home… get back to the sale early to get your spot in line.

Look at the pictures so you know exactly what you are looking for. Sometimes it is literally a race.

Beating a tool dealer to a white whale is even better than finding it with nobody else there. The more upset they are… means you found something really good.

Do you want to buy from tool resellers… or do you want to pay what they pay? It’s the game… and it’s fun to win. I rarely buy anything once a tool reseller has it… I want to pay what he paid…

If you have your wife or kid with you, you can race to multiple things.

Two or three seen at Alameda, couple at an east coast tool show in 2010 that Leach was at, couple at our local PAST events. And I agree, tool events aren't in the wild. Alameda can be, but there are also EAIA & MWTCA members attending, so I don't consider their booths in the wild

EBay or tool auctions are not in the wild either.

By getting out more, I was being sarcastic about finding a cheap one like WisJim did. In 23 years of looking, I have not found an original worth getting my wallet out for. Even the GS one was stupid expensive.

I was just making the point I had never seen one in the wild, not that I've never seen one. If I found one cheap, I'd flip it. I've never bought from any of the big dealers. Generations of cheap German ancestors would rise from the grave and berate me if I did.

Dman, Bluebolt, if there is any more suckage in Louisiana we are gonna have to call FEMA in as the delta will be flooded by a tidal wave.

I have to admit, I’m more than a little bit overwhelmed with the amount of suckage that is happening. I honestly don’t know how to apply it.

Don't you hate it when you go to a Garage sale and there's a vintage tool there that you have no use for whatsoever but you have to have because the price is just too good ? At least it was to me . $15 . The stand was worth that much to me. And it runs .
