and some thing that looks like it clamps down on something drill bit like, and then brings an edge to it.

I think that your second whats-it is a valve refacing tool. I've had a couple of them and it took me a bit to find out what they are.

Also, these Craftsman chisels. I thought they were cold chisels at first. They are flat ground on the bottom and have a slight curve to them. They feel much lighter than they look. If anyone has any info on these, I'd love to know about them.
I think these Craftsman chisels were for woodworking, or more exactly for rough carpentry. I have one that I bought new, perhaps in the late 1970s or early 1980s. All steel for rough use.

SWMBO...

Right now, there is the Free Spirit Moped and this in the "soon- er to be restored" area, and an old Bridgestone 50cc in the later pile. And a pit bike that will probably be sold soon, as my son is too tall for it.

Now that I am rested from my coastal trip, have gotten caught up on various correspondence, and generally feel up to it, here is my haul from the flea that I attended with RTM on Saturday.

Going clockwise, we have an Armstrong lathe tool assortment box, MACK trucks mug (from an antique trucks show) Union Pacific business card caddy, Long C pistol grip ratcheting dirll (with all bits), Stanley awl, Bridgeport multi bit, Indestro hex driver, Millers Falls flat head, small sliding bevel, pocket scale sheath, Hardy vise (picked up at a garage sale on the way home), Vlchek DOE, Ohio Tools plane tote, Master lock with key, Frankenratchet, and the best find of the day: a very early Bonney ratchet, made from 1927 (when they first listed drive tools) to 1932 (when the new handle shows up in a catalog.

Altogether a fun day.

Sale # 2 I landed a 41-C-15 Cabinet (huge thanks to @Private Lugnutz for the assist on this one) this thing is a beast! Also, these Craftsman chisels. I thought they were cold chisels at first. Do Pawn Shops count in this thread?

Today I made a pretty good Snap-On score. I got a 14pc 1/4 drive deep metric and a 14pc 1/4 drive shallow metric set of sockets, a long handle TL72 ratchet, 2”,6”, and 10” 1/4 drive extensions, a 1/4 drive universal, and a hard handle reversible bit driver with all the bits.

They were marked $350 for all of it, which isn’t a horrible deal. With a little haggling, I walked out for $200. Always pays to check the pawn shop!!

I haven't posted in a while. I have been in the middle of a full house remodel. Picked this up lot at an online auction a couple weeks ago. Bought it for the IH set as well as 2 IH screwdrivers but got a few items for my toolbox as well. Here is the eBay auction on the IH socket set. https://www.ebay.com/itm/385710080179. I told the wife I should be able to buy an appliance for her kitchen with that set. IH tractor collectors are the craziest of them all IMO.

I forgot to add this with my earlier post. It was the second day of an estate sale. Everything 50% off. I spotted this nice box. It may be a little morbid, but it was a cremation kit. It was all brand new and came with a second box for the actual ashes, a picture frame, and some thank you cards. It feels extremely well made and is much heavier than it looks. I couldn't pass it up for a few dollars. I think I found a good use for it.

Got another mystery item, a pseudo dogs head ball peen hammer thing spray painted red with pox markings im assuming are user marks, plus an 18 inch crescent wrench and Apex magnetic 7/16 socket for $25.

Almost got a 3 inch face rubber mallet too but it was about 3 swings away from being a handle and two 3"x4" rubber pucks. Hadn't seen one before though.

Spent more than I wanted but I think the wrench is worth $25 since I didn't have one.

If you are looking for a nice IH wrench set also here you go. Suppose willing to ship overseas might have an affect on the final price. Folks be crazy as you said.

Two sales today the first in the shadows of the Michigan Football stadium. Pics held a lot of promise until I got there and saw the pricing,Taiwan socket sets in plastic at $40 ,loose sockets in the tool boxes {an old SK 2 drawer($100 empty),Simonsen Cantilever, bigger than any I've ever seen($115 empty)} was $6,$10,$15 each. I found a few items some marked $3 etc. Spoke a bit to the cashier ,that I'd buy more and suggested their sockets should be marked $1,$2,$3 or even $2,$4,$6 she commented deep discount days would likely be Sat/Sun. I told her I'd check prices tomorrow after work as I am leaving Ann Arbor, and see if they became more reasonable.
2nd Sale was more price friendly with most pieces, not all marked at $1, some were $3 apiece.

I guess it was wrenches-and-knives day (Lugz 2023_23) at the flea this morning.

20230630_090514.jpg

- The big *** openings wrench is a PLVMB, which I was not expecting to see when I flipped it over. Vendor said, "Basin wrench," thinking plumbing, but I was thinking prewar hubs. Have to page through some cats when I get home.

- The one that kinda sorta looks like a ubiquitous Ford MDF made Model A bearing and distributor wrench is actually a Walker-Turner.

- The partial sets of DOE and Combo wrenches are all 《BLUE◇LINE》. If you've never heard of them before, don't feel bad. Distribution limited in geographic range (Mid-Atlantic mainly, though they do show up Midwest and elsewhere) and time (mid 50s). Made by H-P Tools in Philly. I've seen them before in onesy-twosies. Should've probably grabbed those. You can't tell through the rust, but they have a very distinctive dark blued finish. They're later than I collect, but the finish and hex throats are nice.

- The wartime electrician's knife is a PAL, one of only two companies (the other being Ka-Bar) making them explicitly for the Ordnance Dept's GMTK. (I have created a verified scenario for Camillus in some circumstances, but it's too long to explain here.) This one has a very faint marking that I will probably "enhance".

- If you're not still reading, you're going to miss the best part. If you are, the key to what makes that little folding "Key to Quality" key knife the best thing I found today, and maybe all year, is on the flip side!!!!

Not too many sales today , a little on the hot side.
But got this tray of miscellaneous for $3.
Split the goods with the wife. She kept the tray and what's in it and I got the rest
Don't know that we scored any treasures again . But some useable stuff. Definitely worth $3 and now I'll have projects to rejuvenate once the weather gets out of the 90-100 range.

Did nobody read this far? Is everybody sick of my little games, quizzes, and mystery reveals or are y'all just waiting for me to Paul Harvey this? :)
Love the pocket knife
Thanks. They are really nice knives. The wooden scales are handsome, the action is very solid, and you can't beat the two-blade combination for efficiency in a pocket folder. The specs were modeled after the Signal Corps TL-29, which Camillus and others supplied, but the Ordnance Dept GMTK knife, which had its own nomenclature (41-K-370) should have "U.S. ARMY" on the wooden scale, which, even if you're not a GMTK guy, is just nifty and different than the ubiquitous TL-29 markings. Rare, though. Not easy to find. I have a few. :) See Pic. And I have a few like this one I just found that I will likely stamp and pass on to someone completely fessing up to that whois having a hard time finding one.

Well I went back to the sale with the sky high sockets, figuring there might be a price break or two and they'd budge. But nope, nada,no budge. The Craftsman BE sockets I wanted are still $15/each .It will be a shame when they get scrapped or in a dumpster. Anyhow found a few chemicals at $1/each and in the left behind, but had to telegraph out a message to Lugz in NJ with a kerosene tank/filler similar to the one he found a week or so ago.

I had one of these keychain knives, possibly from HF. If I remember correctly the TSA in Minneapolis decided it would be a possible weapon to hijack the planes. Lugz, you certainly find a lot of cool stuff, so I'm dying to hear the rest of the story.

Telegraph, huh? That's one way of putting it!

Fair warning. I'm about to bogart the thread a little with a funny story.

Context: As some of you know, I work in a SCIF. No phones. No cell phones. I check it when I can, which is sometimes not too often.

Today, despite it being a long weekend, with a lot of gov't pukes taking off today and Monday, I had stuff to do. After I hit the flea and posted my finds at 0944, I go in and I don't come out again until 1530. I have a series of missed calls and texts from Mrs. Lugz at 1:11, 1:26, 1:44, 2:07, 2:22, etc. So I call, heart racing, thinking, 'Oh ****, the Central Air went out or the dog died or one of my kids crashed the Wrangler.'

Nope!

Me: "What's wrong?!"

Her: "Some guy from something called Garage Journal called. He's trying to get ahold of you. He said he's standing in a garage looking at something you might want wondering if he should buy it for you. That was hours ago."

WTF? On my house phone?! That rules out @d42jeep and @Username already in use and a few other guys who always use my cell phone. What idiot just outed me to the Commander-in-Chief-of-the-House as a guy who is taking calls from strangers on a Friday about stuff at estate sales?! This is akin to sneaking in some surfcasting when you're supposed to be at work or stopping at the tavern when you;re supposed to be at the library or or or fuggin or! I'm going eek, erp, um, just to buy myself some time, thinking of ways to make this sound anything like I'm part of an informal online cabal of junk pickers collaborating with each other to increase the frequency with which they can go broke!

But...I'm just busting Andy's chops. We had a good chat and now he has my number! :) It was the kerosene can. Different mfgr, but also in Massachusetts, I noticed, and spelled EMTY, so it must be a standard. That makes TWO in two weeks. Now Andy and I are wondering who, in magical Garage Sale thread tradition, will be the one to find the inevitable THIRD EXAMPLE. :)
