The Mrs. went into Austin for some shopping so little man and I went to the local indoor flea market. Didn't expect to find anything but ended up buying these two beryllium hammers ($5 each) and three NOS Stanley Workmaster ratchets in their original packaging ($12 each). Copyright 1981 on the ratchets. Never seen the "flip drive" action on them before. Gonna sell these to buy more tools.

I have a few bronze hammers but I've never seen a bronze claw hammer. What would that be used for?

But why? For carpenters in flammable environments?

A few non sparking environments I know of are grain silos and near certain fuel tanks. We had a carpenter do some work near our grain silo, temporarily closing off a door with plywood for a week. We loaned him the tools.

Family run estate sale. One of the family members told me after the deceased retired he went out and bought a lot of Craftsman electric hand tools for woodworking but then got sick and eventually died without using them so they were all new and unused. There were at least a couple dozen closed plastic cases on the basement shelf with $100 plus price labels on the basement shelves. I passed on those. Instead, Graphol penetrant (approved for ship stores), WD-40, 2 Craftsman air tool oils, Craftsman air tool oiler, Black &Decker adjustable wrench with electrically operated jaws. All fluid containers full or nearly full. $5IMG_20230813_093907865_HDR.jpgIMG_20230813_093946715.jpg

Found a few 5 gal buckets at a sale and started going through them, realized there might be some treasures. So I offered $10 a bucket and sorted them at home.

Midmorning trip to Quakertown Farmers Market & Flea was pleasant but not very productive. $6 brought home an Xcelite PS-120 set, Herbrand 1/4dr spinner and whatever name the wood-handled thing has.

I got a Matco 1/4” drive 9/32” deep socket for a quarter.

I won’t even bother to take a picture of it… it is not marked USA, and it has chrome loss on the business end.

It will go in the donation box.

Bucket 4 - not bad for $40 all in.

You were supposed to pour it all into 1 bucket after agreeing to pay $10/bucket. Yeesh . just kidding, you made a very good deal. Its likely on Ebay the Snappy wrenches could get you all your investment back

Toxic versus nontoxic is a BIG difference in my opinion. I suppose any copper alloy could be called bronze. Classical bronze was copper and tin. Copper and zinc is usually called brass, add more copper and it’s red brass. Since all those are present in my water lines, they don’t concern me, but from what I’ve read, beryllium will destroy your lungs quick, and I’m still using mine.

Looks like an Irwin 900 screw starter. I have a couple and they get frequent use for making small holes for installing small wood screws.

great finds!
Yesterday I went to an antique store and got some nice keys for the collection.
Today I hit up one "fancy" estate sale on my street, for 2 bucks I got a mug for my dad that says "My lawyer can beat up your lawyer" and an Insinkerator cord kit

Battery terminal spreaders. I've got a no-name pair that were my father's.

Actually king of a handy tool every once in a while.

two sales today one was a farm auction that was 60+ miles away but it lured me in with the Craftsman Wall cabinet pictured below. Note I did not win the bidding as it came very close to $400 and the winner was immediately bidding again anytime anyone bid against him.I believe he was ready to spend $500-600 to get 'er done. The auction company didn't help matters by taking the cabinet off the wall and bounced the contents around flat on a farm wagon. Anyhow I got a Case knife and several sheathes, an(unpictured) long handled Keen Kutter axe ,and on the trip home stopped at a sale reopened from 2 weeks back ,hoping I'd find the missing Whitworth Craftsman wrench and/or the pouch,no luck on that front but found a Record Spokeshave,PowrKraft Chisels, a Volume Socket Set, Snap On No71 ratchet,Channelock needlenose, nail sets, lectrolite deep offset, xcelite stubby. If anyone needs a sheath, let me know.I have no idea why the auctioneer separated the knives from the sheathes/or didn't bother to see what when with what.
Love that case 5.25" folding hunter design. My all time favorite for farm and ranch belt sheath carry. Little large for my pockets, but when feeding, running fence, or other other ranch days where it will be in your hand several times an hour, I've not found a better style. Is your new one stainless or carbon steel?

Don't recall seeing this warning, but IMO a good one for any stove - you are cooking food on it...
With all the noxious, if not toxic additives to modern RUG, I'd say the same for "Unleaded" RUG.

TO2d Coleman oven.jpg
Those coleman ovens are great if car camping, especially with a group. Way quicker to feed a bunch of hungry cub scouts hot biscuits with than a dutch oven, less setup coal management and clean up. (not to mention temp control on a stack of dutch ovens is a dark art, seldom learned, let alone mastered, nowdays)

I suspect it is carbon steel, it has a bit of corrosion/discoloring from sitting. The blades are marked Case ** and 6265SAB

Friday morning, I set out on a little road trip, mostly just to get out of the house for a few days and visit my old Norcal stomping grounds. I planned to hit a good looking estate sale on my way down, plus a couple interesting garage sales in the southern half of the state, where I don't get out to very often. Here is what I found:
53116683831_4e0f8866d4_b.jpg
That first estate sale was where I found this Proto LA 9990 chest, which is in need of a bit of work and a lot of cleaning. It is still in the back of my truck, hence the funny angle on the pic. I also found the Plomb body file shown in the photo below:
53116449621_d3f1779f84_b.jpg
I didn't find anything at the first sale, not that I looked too hard as it was boiling out, and the second sale didn't start until the next day, when I would be long gone. But I did find a few things at a favorite old swap meet, before it got too hot: the SK ratchet, Penens breaker bar, and incomplete Indestro socket set. Sadly, it looks like the swap had shrunk during the covid, and they had filled a good acre of the grounds with shipping containers, and there were not that many non-regulars. Plus, it was getting, as I said, very hot out on the blacktop so I didn't really get too much of a chance to dig through the regulars booths. Oh well. I did have a great time of it though.

On my way back home the next day, I was able to stop at the garage sale I missed, and boy was I glad! Here I found the Spintite holder, center finder attachment, short bevel gauge, three file handles, unopened packet of drill bits, small vise, a Mitoloy ratchet (?), and, best of all, an almost complete Billings combo wrench set, in the original pouch!

All in all, it was a nice few days to myself, eating prime rib at cheap bars, going to diners for breakfast, and giving the wife a bit of a break. I also hit a few used book stores, and spent way too much money.
