Shhhweeeeet! (Admit it, though, Dave, after restoring a few of them, I know you're prolly just a smidge disappointed you don't have to do one little thing to it! :))
There's still lots to do to them but I probably won't have to hunt down parts. It's actually fun to rebuild/restore them.
Any interest in selling the ball peen hammer’s?
I'm probably going the keep them but will let you know if I change my mind.

Garage sales in the Tahoe basin are definitely winding down. We checked out a few sales today and only came home with these.IMG_0489.jpegIMG_0490.jpeg
Cleaned up the clamp and cleaned and sharpened the wood chisels. IMG_0493.jpegIMG_0491.jpegIMG_0492.jpeg
I decided to make sure that all of my wood chisels were cleaned and ready for use.

I made the rounds of Saturday sales, while on my way to the shooting range. And I seemed to have decent luck:
53241904571_9fa094a5c7_b.jpg
First stop netted an incomplete Western Giant set, an Indestro box with a full set of Long C circle H sockets, multi-tool, vintage Phillips, Crescent driver, small flat head, Goodell Pratt glass cutter, P&C cape chisel, Starrett nail set, and Parker-Kalon hex key box (empty) $5.

Next couple stops were duds, but, just after having breakfast, the next stop was good:
53242218338_c4ab965cf2_b.jpg
Simonds saw (both horns, great etching), perfect handle driver, Stanley 12oz, Stanley router bit, SK Chrome socket (goes in Don bucket), Hinsdale pressed steel sockets, Chromium Vanadium socket, and Indestro ratcheting wrench. $7

After that a dude and a trip to the range. Where I broke an extractor on a 75yo Mossberg that I found at an estate sale. That will be some work to find or make a new one. Anyway, I had one last stop on my list:
53242227653_4bb9247419_b.jpg
Cornwell black oxide ratchet, Walden black oxide ratchet, Fleet ratchet, Stanley Everlast chisel. And somewhere are an SK spart plug socket with SK diamond extension. $15, and Don knows which one is special! Oh, and the reamer was from the last sale, missed it in that photo.

Just after that, I spotted an estate sale sign, so a TOO to end the day
53242215953_bbdbf5c024_b.jpg
Three SK tools metric combos, and some nice but unmarked center head and machinists protractor. $4 And I don't know anything about this company, but there were some serious bargains to be had sitting around on the last day. Blacksmiths leg vice for $42, things like that. But I was tired, and don't need it, nor can easily resell it.

I've had an automated email alert setup on CL for "Delta Drill Press" for several years. 98% of the alerts are spam or Chinese homeowner toy DP's. About once a year a vintage Delta DP shows up but they are either basket cases, incomplete, 15" or grossly overpriced. This time I got lucky with an ad for a beautiful 17-600 machinist model for $175. Since the ad was 13 hours old I suspected it was long gone but called them anyway. They returned my call right away and it was still available. I offered them $200 cash sight unseen and told them I could pick it up in a couple hours. (decided to highball vs lowball). It's really nice. It's dirty but there's not a blemish on the table and nothing's missing. They threw in a whole bunch of big drill bits, a rolling drill bit index , a Palmgren and a Simplex vise and a few other items.

The owner said he had a few more things he had to get rid of. One of them was a Delta grinder in excellent shape with lighted eye shields. He said $65 and I said I'd take it. I've seen a lot of homemade stands but the stand for one is built like a brick *********.

As I was about t leave the owner asked if I was interested in a Kennedy toolbox with a mic, caliper and misc. I told him probably not but said I'd take a look anyway. Out comes an absolute mint Gerstner machinist chest cram packed full of machinist tools. He said $100 and it's yours!

Here is my small haul for the weekend, L-R, a gigantic Milwaukee carry bag, hope to stash my PortaBand or worm drive saw in there, the goodies in front were inside, including some really coarse sand paper, and some rubber tubing, and landscape cloth hold down staples. Next is a bigger than average Au ve co fastener organizer box,, very rusty lid, with some misc fasteners inside, and right front, 3 different sizes of what I think are Cincinnati Tool Jason L Taylor Mfg Co, Poughkeepsie NY clamps, really heavy. Patent 640500. Sent a note to the Datamp steward that these are really made. (13", 21" & 31")

Just hit up a local flea market. One guy had a rusty metal box of mostly junk rusty tools. He tells me $20 for the whole box I respectfully declined and gave it one more shift and found this gem... a Walden 1151 bullet ratchet for $2. I respectfully accepted his price. Got that and the Yellow Dodge Ram for my 8 year old partner who always gets me for a car or two when we go to sales. PXL_20231008_152521666.jpgPXL_20231008_152507632.jpgPXL_20231008_152457604.jpg

Just picked these 3 items up for $40 total. Saw works, and the vice isn't frozen or abused.

Now that is a beautiful saw! I think that Simonds (and Atkins) saws from that era have the best handles of all.

Funny (strange and haha) day at the flea.

When I parked, raring to go (just no time since Sep 15, my last report (Lugz 2023_32), and rained out Friday and Saturday), I discovered that my wallet wasn't in the truck! (Took dear daughter, home from grad school, out to eat at Surf Taco last night, drove her car, and left it in there.) Not a terribly long drive (~11 miles, and 20 minutes), but I had already gotten a very late start having way too much fun sipping coffee while reading all the Braves fans imploding on social media (let's Phucking go!!!!).

'Well, that's some schadenfreude for you, you idiot,' I thought to myself.

So, I started looking for vendors I am friends with. No Lee. No Don. Where the heck is everyone? I was starting to panic when I saw this old gentlemanly type named Mark and he lent me $20.

I made my rounds, not finding anything, and I was on my way to give Mark his $20 back when I ran into a good table at one of the house liquidators' areas. (Everything you see below except the bottle cap table top came from there.) When I was walking the bottle cap table top over to my car, I felt a tap on my shoulder. Believe it or not, it was a guy who owed ME $20! :)

So I walked back to Mark's table and handed him the $20.

'Got skunked, huh?' he said.

'Nope, believe it or not...,' I started, and we both had a big laugh. Showed up late, didn't have any money, and still went home with a pile (Lugz 2023_33)! :)

2023_33.jpg20231008_105108.jpg20231008_113412.jpg

Top to Bottom:

- No clue on the wooden thing. Looked interesting and I was hoping one of the woodworkers would know.
- Everything between there and the wartime 10" Diamond adjustable is hard-core vintage special mechanics tools, K.R. Wilson, KMO, Snap-on, FoMoCo, etc, most of which I can't even identify. Pullers, compressors, drivers, arbors, installers, etc. Some of it incomplete.
- EDIT: Except for the little pocket clip whatzit and that impact driver, which is a Walden 3/8-drive Hamerench.
- Artillery unit patch for a near future (2026) 50th HS anniversary (1976) mate
- Wartime WRIGHT and TBD swivel sockets
- DOEs are Harris & Reed and TBD, Blue-Point, and B&S ("S)
- Wartime HERBRAND brake spring pliers with the '8642' AISI marking
- OTC spreaders
- Old Forge muffler tool (has a patent I didn't look up yet, but definitely in wartime or prewar range, off the top of my head)
- General double offset screwdriver
- No idea on the thing under that. Also looks like an offset screwdriver, but I am not convinced. Copper with a black rubberized handle. Not homemade.
- "CORNWELL" and -> Blue-Point <- feeler gauges
- Two antique clamps. One is a quick clamp, probably STEARNS. I'll need help on the other.

Looks like some sort of plane/panel cutter with an adjustable fence. Hard to say more, but I'll bet its a nice piece of Beech.

I'll post more photos later. There are some very prominent features on the other side that I am guessing will be easy tells for the knowledgeable.

Meanwhile, this LEFT BEHIND...

Price was right, but I didn't have any of the strong, instantaneous kinds of ideas I would like to have for what smalls I would put it in (I was thinking collectibles, not fasteners, etc) to convince me, and it wasn't 'pretty' enough to re-purpose as a jewelry box.

Looks like a sash or plough plane, missing the handle, blade and wedge. The other side may help, as would a view from the nose. Usually uses a special blade, and some are very specific shapes and widths.

The non Stearns looking clamp looks like half of a pipe clamp. Check the ID, should thread onto 1/2 or 3/4 inch pipe. The other half is a sliding piece.

I think at the right price that would have com home with me. I like odd wood boxes of drawers. it may have originally been for sewing? but I'm not a purest...

I guess plough plane or grooving plane makes sense, missing pieces, but I defer to you sawdust makers.

Nothing fancy this weekend. Tools took a backseat to audio as I picked up some Boston Acoustics A-400's as well as some other audio components, but this is for a different chat group.

As for tools, all I got were a handful of screwdrivers. Mostly Proto with a hint of Xcelite, Vaco, and a lone stubby Ivy, which I've never heard of before.20231008_144820.jpg

The copper piece with the rubberized handle looks to me to be a jumper for something like a power meter. The tabs slip into the sockets of the meter base. I wouldn't want to be the one that used that on a "hot" meter base!

That was my thought too, guessing household size vs industrial. Guessing running electric meter bypass, that kinda seems the right size.

I did some sorting and triage on the card file cabinets I bought last week. Lots of the contents will be useful, so I will have to mix it in with my current stock, and part of that process will be to blend these cabinets in with my existing ones. For the time being, I'm keeping some of the drawers in use as is, but I keep finding things scattered around several drawers that belong in one spot. That is time-consuming, so I'm deferring it until the colder rainy season arrives.

I did separate out some of the more interesting stuff, and here is a report:
Cabinet 1.jpg
12" Crescent adjustable, thick head style
8" adjustable. Marked "CRA Germany". I think this would be pre-WWII.
10" Carll adjustable, pat. May 6, 1913
9" Wizard No. 9 adjustable
Westcraft W1828 DOE 9/16 x 5/8

The copper piece with the rubberized handle looks to me to be a jumper for something like a power meter. The tabs slip into the sockets of the meter base. I wouldn't want to be the one that used that on a "hot" meter base!

That was my thought too, guessing household size vs industrial. Guessing running electric meter bypass, that kinda seems the right size.
Reminds me of an A/C disconnect fuse.
I think that's a good call. I have another pocket clip whatzit in there I will be posting, probably down on the VB.
The pocket thing looks like a cross between a tape measure and tire pressure gauge.
