The copper piece with the rubberized handle looks to me to be a jumper for something like a power meter. The tabs slip into the sockets of the meter base. I wouldn't want to be the one that used that on a "hot" meter base!
Good call. I used them a lot back in my lineman days. They can be trouble in the wrong hands. Free power.

A couple of recent auction buys for me. Normally I always get outbid, but this time I got lucky. Wilton 24200 drill press for $250 and a virtually brand new Tennsmith SR48 Slip Roll for $430.IMG_2075.jpgIMG_2086.jpg
Wow man nice find! Thats a geared head drill press, ive been wanting one for a long time in that price range. I got a nice walker turner 1100 recently for 100 bucks, which is a steal but still no geared head!

Some of my recent additions to my shop. These pictures are after i have restored the machines and set them up for use. A powermatic 143 i got for 300 bucks. Took a while to clean the rust off and repaint that. Finally got it moved to my basement shop. The southbend heavy 10 i got with a lot of tooling not really pictured for 1100.00 also took a while to go thru but work like a champ now. The other stuff all came for free at the auction for the lathe. Thats a moore tools micro-sine plate and a moore tools right angle attachment for a rotarty table. The original price on those is mindblowing. That float locks drill press vise was rusted frozen when i got it but cleaned up nice.

So, Unmarked-ish (weird marked, possibly handmade?) Wood carving tool (or potentially reamer?), was free with the other stuff.

•Nice CeeTee slips-$8.00
•Vermont American changeable bit pocket (possibly 1/8 bits. I haven't measured and my eyesight is poor)-$5.00
•Watchmakers screwdriver with interchangeable bits-$2.00
•KaBar Marine Mate pliers?

(I found Them online, but not with a price so I don't really know what they're worth? I just thought it looked like cool pliers. I JUST Started researching when I got home and cleaned them enough to see the KaBar haha)-$15.00

i'd think Reamer over woodcarving
Yeah as I've started handling it, it seems hand ground? It has what looks like a series of numbers and letters around the post. They're broken and some erased by the grind though. It's got to be tool/knife steel too, and someone was careful enough, or legitimately did it with a file. No discoloration from overheating etc

Showing the other end might help. Maybe tool steel jammed in a file handle? Possibly an awl, can't see how far it tapers down.

Go check out post 4768 from me I found a similar tool and the consensus was a machinist scraper, Babbitt bearing scraper etc. Is yours a “tri blade”?

I've had an automated email alert setup on CL for "Delta Drill Press" for several years. 98% of the alerts are spam or Chinese homeowner toy DP's. About once a year a vintage Delta DP shows up but they are either basket cases, incomplete, 15" or grossly overpriced. This time I got lucky with an ad for a beautiful 17-600 machinist model for $175. Since the ad was 13 hours old I suspected it was long gone but called them anyway. They returned my call right away and it was still available. I offered them $200 cash sight unseen and told them I could pick it up in a couple hours. (decided to highball vs lowball). It's really nice. It's dirty but there's not a blemish on the table and nothing's missing. They threw in a whole bunch of big drill bits, a rolling drill bit index , a Palmgren and a Simplex vise and a few other items.

The owner said he had a few more things he had to get rid of. One of them was a Delta grinder in excellent shape with lighted eye shields. He said $65 and I said I'd take it. I've seen a lot of homemade stands but the stand for one is built like a brick *********.

As I was about t leave the owner asked if I was interested in a Kennedy toolbox with a mic, caliper and misc. I told him probably not but said I'd take a look anyway. Out comes an absolute mint Gerstner machinist chest cram packed full of machinist tools. He said $100 and it's yours!

@Davefr You **** for all the above!

Estate sale ($40): 3-SK sockets sets; cap pistol; Diamond Calk 4" crescent wrench; PS&W bit brace; 50' Ace Hardware tape measure; bicycle light?; Mac SP16 scraper; Master Tufboy no.308 8' tape measure; Estwing E3-22SM 16" framing hammer; Keencut 13C-8 scissors; Yale pad lock; Schrade -Walden drop point knife; Carl Nath **** chisels; Vermont American no. 65966 dove tail saw; Draw knife; Propane, Las'stik king sized dust cloth.

Normally, I ignore loose sockets, but in this instance found the empty cases so I decided to sweep up the entire drawer of loose sockets and ratchets. Tada I think I'm only missing one 1/4" - 7/16" deep socket.

Snap On tieclip.
Nice find. I have the same one. I also have a Snap-on torque-o-meter tie clip. That one is not a precious metal, though! :)

🤪 Dude, I would've grabbed that in a hurry! I LOVE things like that. You wouldn't have to use it for nuts. I would keep all kinds of cool smalls in there.

Had to run errands over lunch, but saw a moving/garage sale. Old timer was moving to a condo and needed thin out stuff. He was keeping a lot of the good stuff but I saw this 2’ homemade box under one of the tables without a price. He says “$3 plus the tools inside.”

Craigslist score from the other day. A wilton 1765 vise for only $150. I've been looking for a wilton for years but refuse to pay used wilton prices. This thing is massive! Unfortunately, the wilton badge is destroyed, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that yet. I'm thinking of doing a quick restoration on it. Still undecided on what color I want to paint it.

Check in with @mattblast he does an awesome job with repro stickers and decals. He has a whole thread on them. I have a few myself.

20231013_173215.jpg
Crafty Beaver Home Center ,made in USA 6 in 1 for the kitchen junk drawer..."Honey...bring the Crafty Beaver over here and I'll fix it." lol

Anther Wright extension to go with my Wright ratchet which I cant find.
I like the H.D Smith 660 screwdriver. That is art.
And a old fallers wedge to go with my other wedges.
And the Hawkeye wrench which is another work of art.

I hit four estate sales today, with good results.

The first sale was a hoarders sale, on a rather interesting piece of property. Smack dab in the middle of a new development, was an older home on about an quarter acre of land. There was a house that had multiple additions on, an outbuilding, and a pole barn. All of them stuffed with... junk. And I mean just junk. Not trash, but stuff you see someone saving, but would be in piles of the same stuff but much newer. Like four vacuum cleaners, along with all of the attachments, ranging from 40 years old to last years. Weird. But, sifting around I found the following:
53258885340_3549f67628_b.jpg
Vintage rifle sling, Starrett long pin punches in box, empty Starrett box (for surface gauge), Helios vernier calipers, magneto wrench set, Fowler (Helios) thread gauge, RCBS powder trickler, and a Plomb WF breaker bar.

Also from that sale
53258757839_f6c01fb267_b.jpg
a Mitutoyo protractor and Riverside DBE in the lower right. Total $15, as it was half price day.
The Zim valve lifter (in box), Armstrong and Blue Point wrenches, along with a Stevens #8 (!) came from the second sale ($5.50), while the Goodell Pratt multi tool ($3) came from a very high end estate sale I checked out due to the number of older books in the ad, which, sadly, turned out to be merely decorative, and in poor condition for the most part.

The forth and final sale had a lot of tools in the ad, but mostly newer, cheap tools, which I wasn't interested in. But I did find a Starrett run out gauge holder and a packet of good, small drill bits for $6.

Well, this year was very quite for me - not too many sales around where I travel...

I got a lot of tools - will post them later when I clean them or lay them out. I want to post the box in which the tools came in (still do not know what to do with it - might resell rather than complete restore). It's a Williams. Nice and sturdy. The quality is the same as my older Snap On by the feel (I bet on the same manufacturer)

Original owner was a Porsche Mechanic from 1970s...

W1.JPGW2.JPGW3.JPG

Price paid: - $15 (I got a discount for taking the box together with the tools)
