More stuff from the Main to Main sale. Sears pipe vise, wood mallet with brass fittings, rubber and hard hammer heads (Croquet?) and a DOE Whitworth wrench from England for $15 and a Navy ammo box, nickel plated Stanley level and an electrical box turned into a tool box with a few goodies inside $30.

The Jenbro wrench was made by Jenks Brothers of Wolverhampton who owned Britool.

Looks likely to be a cheaper carbon steel spanner, maybe the jaw deformations assist in this determination.

Private Lugnutz, the knife has the original brochure in the box too.
Somebody was proud of it - or it just got shoved to the back of a drawer and forgotten! It happens. Is the brochure dated? Either way, it was already nice and 'vintage knife thread' brag-worthy, but it now it gets promoted to under lock-and-key in a glass display case category. :)

Most are all screwed up for DST.
Yes, speaking of clocks...

My circadian rhythm woke me up an hour "late" this morning, but I managed to get to the flea in time to grab (Lugz 2023_38) some more selective goodies...

2023_38.jpg

- I'll start with the unusual "cane", before the decrepit old man jokes start. It's hard to tell from this pic, but the handle is in two hinged halves that fold down into a seat. That disk on the bottom provides a little base of stability when the spike is poked into the ground. Not sure why it's provisioned to come off, but it does. Shaft is steel. Made in England for Abercrombie & Fitch. Not sure if it's vintage, but I like the hell out of it.

- I think I may have a suitable cylinder lock replacement for the Heritage era machinists' chest.

- No visible branding on the extension with the split-knurled rotating handle. It's chromed, which is unusual for me to bring home, but rotating extensions are rare enough to always come home with me. There's just not that many out there.

- I need another Petersen vise-grip like a hole in the helmet but these have the 1942 patent marking.

- I never bring Xcelite tools home with me (I have a whole bunch of nut drivers, but prefer antique with wooden handles, oddities, or other brands), but the business ends on these odd-looking tiny pocket-clip jobbies set off the intuitive "Rare!" Meter in my head and a little research when I got home proved my instincts to still be finely calibrated.

- Not sure about the tiny tool above those. Probably in the machinists' category. Looks like a scribe. But it has a concave tip instead.

- Last but certainly not least is a PLVMB knock-off type wheel puller.

Lugz, I have a similar spinner extension that is Herbrand, My spinner does not have the center groove, and I had to replace the retention ball, but it was a std size and was easy.

I like the cane, I have a similar one-post seat, but the "Handles" are not the "J" style and have a leather strap for the seat, so may be a bit more comfy.

I'm really disappointed that this didn't start a run of bad puns. You guys are no fun. I can only imagine that @Old Radar is sleeping in and @mikeinri missed it.

I'm not a punny guy, but I completely missed this, probably because I've been running around taking care of fall work around here (winterizing the RV, cleaning up leaves, etc.). Plus entertaining the boys (concert Friday night, Dave & Busters last night).

As much as I hate clock-changing (and especially when it gets dark at 4:30 or earlier), I definitely needed the extra sleep this morning!

Went to two sales today

I will say that when I first saw the clock in Jeff's post, my first thought was: That guy should have read the book before building that monstrosity! Then I realized that Jeff probably bought those two items from different sellers...

And the VERY first thing that popped into my head when reading Lugz's pun...

MrsLS & I took a leisurely jaunt to Jake’s Flea this morning. I picked up a few other things, but was most pleased with finding a big box of Bonney, from which I selected the above for $20. The seller had connections to a deceased foreman at Bonney Forge in Allentown. If I see him again, I mean to find out more.
The Utica needlenose, BMC No9 L-socket wrench, and Champion screwdriver were another $2.
Not shown, a small Craftsman crowntop carry box for $5, which I could not walk away from after the seller came down from $15.

The concave end isn’t the interesting end to me. Can’t see a reason for the hex head and that ring?

Not that I’ve ever seen any tool for this, but could the concave end be used to release a spring loaded bearing? More heavy duty, but kind of like what you would see in the legs of a pop up canopy?

Or maybe a bearing type spring loaded relief valve?

nice find on the 4” Vaco and the Craftsman set with the drive plugs (y)

Hey Lugz, could you show us some more of that rotating extension. I don’t recall ever seeing one male x male before.

Oak get A YOU ****! for prices and condition.

Nice Bonney finds LS. I almost missed the unfinished wrench.

Saturday morning the wife and I got up early ("getting up early" ain't something we do often since we're both retired ) and went to breakfast and then started looking for yard sales....

We came upon a guy who usually sets up in a parking lot of a closed business, and has a lot of used construction tools (I was hoping he'd be there)
Plenty of well used levels, hammers, loose wrenches, scarred up speed squares, etc.

I was looking through all the boxes he had and I saw a small cardboard box with some small items is plastic bags (found out what they were later) about 5 or 6 carbide scribes, and a nice little satin finished, new looking, 1/4"dr. Wiha ratchet!!!
WSS1.jpg
WSS2.jpg

I'm a sucker for 1/4" ratchets, so I asked "how much" he said "$5 bucks".....seemed fair enough to me, so I said "I'll take it"

When I said that, he grabbed a plastic baggie and started loading up the small items that were in the plastic bags that were still in the cardboard box .....turns out for $5 bucks, I just bought a 1/4"dr ratchet, two extensions, and 10 SAE 1/4" deep sockets (NEW-still in bags!! :scared: WOW!!)

With a huge grin on my face I handed him $5 bucks, said "Thank You" and he replied "Thank You"....
WSS3.jpg
WSS4.jpg

Back home while playing with the ratchet it felt course and gritty, it's fairly fine toothed (72T) but it felt "clunky" so I opened it up and found it was bone dry with not even a hint of lubrication (how much more would it add to the cost to put a drop of oil in it?)
WSS5.jpg
WSS6.jpg

So, I lightly cleaned out the teeth with a brass brush and wiped it down with 3in1 oil, then lubed it up with Super Lube......Smooth as silk now!!

Hey Lugz, could you show us some more of that rotating extension. I don’t recall ever seeing one male x male before.
That's a good point! All my others are indeed M x F. By the way, note that male end on the right is turned 45* in orientation to the one on the left, and it has NO retention ball, both odd features. Both 1/2-inch drive.

Hoping someone will know what this is. As I said upthread in my initial report, looks machinist-y to me, and the name comes up machinist-y, as far back as WWII, which I am happy to see. Not sure this particular tool is that old, although it could be. What's it for? Scribes are pointy. This is the opposite. And it doesn't look broken-off to me. Perfectly symmetrically concave. Kind of counterintuitive to the name NEEDLE-POINT if you ask me.
Looking into the name, Nork Pattern NeedlePoint scriber is a thing, looking kinda like yours.

I am going to guess that someone took a real Nork Needlepoint, and cut (on a lathe or similar precision tool) to make that tip on the end. Almost looks like a nailset to me.

And looking how far back yours is on the taper compared to the link, maybe it was broken, then cut into a new tool.

Only other thing I've seen is a Nork Needle Point divider, and I doubt it came from that.

I coulda sworn I've seen a Nork Catalog, but nothing coming up.

They had a hermaphrodite caliper that used the same point as other tools.

Here is my haul from yesterday. We had to run some errands over the hill, so found an estate sale nearby. The sale started Friday, but looking at the ad, no way did I want to be there. It was going to be a madhouse

From estatesales.org https://estatesales.org/photos/105277353?sid=2251951 & nearby, pasting for posterity. (6 or 8 photos of this, one of the hands said it was insane first thing. 2 full pages of sales (1 person per line)
1699236412638-png.1986288

This pic caught my eye, and why I decided to stop. From https://estatesales.org/photos/105277275
1699236552787.png

When I got there, most of the order was long gone, as was the SK looking set in front. But a large portion of the sockets on the wall, and some of the wrenches, were scattered all over the bench. You can see the holders for the XCelite type drivers, Lugz' fave (of many) vice grip type things in black
IMG_20231105_181135-XL.jpg

R- L, rechargeable spray can, Starrett hardened center head, Starrett nailset, empty Starrett box, couple of Allen tools (as discussed recently), 2x CMan DBE metric, DeStaCo clamp, 4x US made vintage DBE, 7x tiny US wrenches, 5 mid length Craftsman metric sockets, 10mm, and 5,6,7 mm sockets, 2 SK swivel socket and 6x sockets, & extension, Apex bit, Diamond 8" adjustable, unknown Nicholson thing, odd snap ring pliers, Corona clipper, adjusting tool like for valves (7/16" socket & 3/16" screwdriver), Cincinnati Clamp, Stanley 18" auger bit extension, RJ auger bit. The US made include Vlchek, SK, Electrolite, Indestro, Billings etc.

Stupid me didn't register that those screwdriver holding things were still there, just empty now. I woulda loved to snag those. And those pegboard socket holders might have been fun too.

PXL_20231105_205107108-X2.jpg

Also grabbed a set of German made Tenadium wrench set, #838 from 6mm to 22mm, skipping only 21mm I think. They were hanging on the pegboard, and I walked past them twice before I grabbed them. Deep offsets, nice heft in the hand. Really pleased to get these, I only have combo metric wrenches, and the deep offset was a bonus. When they asked to see my stuff at check out, they guy pulled out one, asked if they were on the wall, nice set, thought long and hard, and said $20. And the rest for $5. OK, started chucking all my stuff back in the bag as fast as possible.

PXL_20231105_205120612-X2.jpg
Also grabbed a nice straight saw, a bit newer than my preference, but a bit of sharpening and away we go, was $5 first thing. Etch is still visible if you hold it at an angle.
PXL_20231105_212041563-X2.jpg

Quite pleased for $30 out the door. Plus extra for gardening pots for MLW.

Back home while playing with the ratchet it felt course and gritty, it's fairly fine toothed (72T) but it felt "clunky" so I opened it up and found it was bone dry with not even a hint of lubrication (how much more would it add to the cost to put a drop of oil in it?)

So, I lightly cleaned out the teeth with a brass brush and wiped it down with 3in1 oil, then lubed it up with Super Lube......Smooth as silk now!!

Wow, you both ****!!!
