2023 Garage Sale Thread

It’s some form of Elvish…”Four Screwdriver Rings for Garage Sale Kings under the sun…”Saturday I hit three yard sales in the neighborhood and scored tools at each. Shocking, I know. Nothing grand but I should have a few items to post when I have more time. Did score an S-K 1-1/2” polished combo at the first sale.
Then I did the drive- by at a fourth sale which was all baby stuff, so I moved on to the flea market.
It was key ring screwdriver day. One seller had the VFW Welfare Fund driver, the Plomb, and the Vaco anniversary driver. A second seller had the Powerful Pete. Not bad at $3.50 for all 4.

**Thanks for looking this up! Now we know he was around in Benton County for a while...Now I just need to see if I can track down his business. The real reason behind me asking about this is I was somehow hoping to date the sign a little bit more but I doubt it's possible**Try here, 21 in 1940. Not sure why classified as daughter.

Secondly, it's very cool that sign has family history, but even if it didn't it'd be perfect for any collector!

I've only been half skimming this developing story. What is that little green magic ball? Seriously. I have no clue.
. I tend to have alot of interests in things a bit older than my age bracket but I've been that way my entire life. But yeah I guess I would be considered one of the young bucks of the hobby. But in regards to the sign I'm beyond elated. I didn't get to pick the entire shop before the doors closed but I did get one heck of a wall hanger and I'll be smiling from ear to ear every time I see it.Private Lugnutz

2nd cup of coffee edit: NJ just reinstituted Green Ball lottery. (Don't ask me what it is. I don't play. Some kind of free nightly extra drawing gimmick to exploit even more money out of people who don't have enough disposable income to gamble.) But they are advertising the heck out of it using some goofy guy called Green Ball Man. In a couple weeks when all this dies down and I forget who actually found the round, 1 of 3 known in existence, guy wire insulator, and I'm hovering over the PotY voting choices re-hashing the best hauls of the year in my mind, I'm going to be thinking of @ctuai as Green Ball Man.

You have a young face. I can relate, I was routinely carded (for purchasing alcohol) into my later 30s. The more grey in my hair, the less I get carded. Enjoy it while you can!

Attended an extreme pickers sale Over the weekend. The house had been abandoned for at least eight years and suddenly the sale company was told that the sale had to be this week. It was walking through a jungle. Four outbuildings and a30 x 30 roof. You couldn't walk on ground, you had to walk on tools, junk, buckets, etc. Anyway, I found a few things. That rail is 24" long and weighs about 80 pounds. All the rest was a single price for everything. $350 including two 48" saw blades and a 54" blade. Spot welder, mig gun, singer machine base, two Snap-on ratchets, four bench vises and misc tools. The ratchets are already back to working order, including a hard handle from an old Snap-on screwdriver. That vise on the upper left is all welded steel but has no name. Hope I can find a source for that one. Edit: sorry, the rail was $10.

To everyone amazed by the youth that is known as Smokeshow, he and I go and hit a lot of swap meets as they come across the valley here, and I would send him up to sellers, attempting to get a free toy for such a young fellow, but he his a little over nine feet tall, and it fails on that idea alone.

Not truly a tool, but these will help me get to some sales in the future. Facebook marketplace find which seemed too good to be true but it worked out just as advertised. (5) General Grabber ATx tires on steel rims with the TPMS sensors. New 'takeoffs' from a 2023 Bronco. Listed by a Ford dealership that is an hour+ drive each way but worth it in my view. The tires will go on my truck, the rims will find a new home. $200

I am finally finding time to show Sundays finds. I missed a couple sales, as I was indisposed on Saturday, and I was itching to get out. Well, as you all know, Sunday is usually scraps day, and this was no exception. But I did manage well in the end. The first sale I went to held great promise, but was pretty picked over by that time, not to mention it was pretty far back in the boonies in a small town. I passed on a bench top Atlas drill press, as I already have a Walker-Turner, and the beat up power tools didn't interest me at all. So I moved on to the second stop, the shop estate sale of a man who liked dirt bikes and RC airplanes. It seems like he preferred Harbor Freight tools, but I found a few things:
An RC plane motor (mostly as I have never played around with one and wanted to check it out), ratcheting driver, one vise jaw (couldn't leave it behind), an opened pack of 10" RC propellers, some C-man wrenches, lathe dial gauge holder, General drill gauge
8" C-clamp and
by the time I got there, after noon on the last day, they were starting to blow things out, and most of the heavier stuff, welders and bandsaws, were rolling out. There was a lathe/mill combo still there, and this toolbox was part of it, I thought. But then I noticed a separate price for it, so I grabbed it after I took a look inside. It turns out it isn't a machinist chest, but rather a jewelry box, and after I got rid of all the **** (including the clutch pack for a dirt bike), I was left with an MT3 dead center, MT2 live center (bad bearing), MT1 spur, MT2 adaptor for a dead center, mill and lathe bits, a box of machine screws (and a glow plug for the motor!), a cut off blade, and tubes for bit storage.
I got all of that, box and everything, for $20 out the door.

*** this is hilarious. I couldn’t help but laugh. I’m a bit shy of 9’ but am still a bit taller than average
. Although if the sellers were giving away free plomb tools I’d be more inclined to dress like a young lad.**** this is a you ****! A few years back I got a set of 4 Goodyear duratrac tires off a 2019 power wagon with 10k miles on them for $350 and I thought I got a smoking deal but you killed it!**

So it finally happen to me. I found the baby bullet at the fleamarket. It wasn't at some high-end table, or with a bunch of snap on tools. It was on a tarp on the ground surrounded by cheap Chinese tools. This bad boy cost me $18. It only took me eight years of going to the fleamarket 1 to 3 times a weekend to Finally stumble across a cheap baby bullet!
Does anybody know if the paint is original? A lot of the ones I see on eBay the jaws and jaw-sides are not painted like this one. Also if anybody knows where can get an end cap and swivel locks please let me know.
From another vendor I also got lucky enough to get a snap-on three-quarter inch breaker bar Ratchet adapter for Three dollars so it was a pretty good weekend.
