One of the great things about scrounging stuff at inexpensive venues is that you can exchange items with other local collectors based on individual collecting interests without considering valuations.

To put it in simple terms, we don't put a price on something. Rather, we share stuff with people who like it, and they share with us the same way. It is more important that the stuff ends up with someone that appreciates it.

Talk is cheap. And we are here to show what we mighty hunters went out and found. With that in mind, here we go:
52601123711_5980b78764_c.jpg
Went to the local flea, and after dodging around all the junk, I found from one dealer a nice leather satchel (full of shotshells), and empty Starrett and Lufkin boxes. After that, I negotiated down a nice Starrett surface gauge. There was more than a bit more tools, but nothing that spoke to me at the prices being asked.

So after that I snuck deep into our hosts neighborhood, to a small antique mall, were I found the following boxes:
52601548285_932d562ba4_c.jpg
a '30s Snap-on K21 and a Walden 1/2" socket box.

So, Happy New Years!

Nice pickup on the snappy carry box. Not
easy to find them that straight. Is it rusty?

It is a bit surface rusty, and missing one of the drawers and the tote. But, it was cheap, real cheap, and I have the missing parts already, as I picked one up a couple years ago that was rusted through on the bottom. I found them at some weird antique mall on 99west in Sherwood.

...another low key year.
It's funny how people under the age of 35 are changing the meaning of this term.
Perhaps repost the offending pic?
Uhhh, I wouldn't do that even if I was weird enough to have saved it, but I didn't take note of who it was. Now that I think about it, I'm not even sure it was the GS thread. I just thought it was funny that Smoke brought it up.

On another venue someone did that with a whatzit, got comments about a worm, etc, finally realized and took it down

Seriously? That place is one of my wife’s favorite haunts and I very occasionally find something there. Too funny 😂

Seriously, this is one of my pet peeves. Or folks who post a picture of a wrench or sockets they just found and they are holding them so you can’t see much of the tools?

People, take the extra time to lay the new finds down on a flat surface and photograph them. No one wants to see your dirty work pants or your filthy mitts engulfing an otherwise nice tool you just found. (This is really prevalent on a collector group on fb I am part of but I have seen it on here as well)

With the ~extra~ day off today I was able to get the desk/riser piece I bought Oak desk here ,moved into the office. I fabricated a couple feet for the sides and back ,quick douse of shellac and while that was drying I managed to clean off enough space on the desk. It's a bit higher than I'm used to but we will see over time before commencing to cut anything down thru the table saw. Still a work in progress but I thought I'd share.

Good picking to all for another year! I’m still here but won’t be up to much this year. Currently in the hospital as my wife is being induced and my new apprentice is ready to come into the world!

Good luck, Bobcat!

First pickup of 2023 for Duddly! Spotted this last week on FBM and finally got the stars to align for pickup.

A Mossberg No Socket set in a steel box (a first for me) and with the sticker on top in amazing condition! I have not found the original info but it looks like everything is there. I am thinking mid to late 1920s (?) but I have not found an ad yet to narrow it down. Pictures are as picked up - I think a careful, light cleaning will make the colors pop even more.

It was from a couple of great daughters helping their mom downsize and they threw in some other goodies including a sharpening stone, a Owatanna 818 bushing driver set and some great vintage hardware. I am always looking for hardware that looks correct for various repairs, so this will be used.

Also - Allinc - that riser looks great on your desk! What a great find!

Terrific find, Duds!

It's a very very late pressed-steel transitional set from 1927. They were still making pressed-steel sockets and putting the sets in wooden boxes in 1926. They switched to steel boxes and that style decal in 1927. And in late 1927 and 1928 they moved to hot-forged sockets. I have a No. 82 set, larger, with hot-forged sockets, same kind of box and same decal, linked here.

I will come back and post an ad.

Great looking box sets Duddly. (y)

Bobcat-Congrats there!

For the guys who didn’t care for my first post being so “last year” ;), I have a fresh 2023 haul right here. So fresh that I was still drooling as I laid it all out on the lawn for the first time tonight.

I may have sunk to an all-time low for this haul though. I joined FB in order to reach the seller on Marketplace. After a really stressful weekend, I was overjoyed to find this.

$40 and a 20 minute drive, plus my wife drove! The seller loved her expression when we carried this giant tub of tools to her car.

These were from his father’s collection. The seller, not quite a tool collector himself, told me he saved these thinking they were some of the better stuff. Well, I’ll let you guys be the judge.

I still haven’t had time to examine every brand, especially the screwdrivers, but here’s the haul.

In his few ad photos I initially spotted one Snap-On 71-10 ratchet, and a handful of nice Blue-Point large combos that caught my eye. Turns out there were more tools than I thought there’d be for $40. Some nice surprise including he large adjustable being a Plomb 16” 716s, a Plomb 344 hacksaw, two Manzel Buffalo tools, plus more Blue Point combos than I thought there were.

Some other items of interest:
-PWA Bonney wrench
-Stevens Walden valve spring compressor
-Duro chrome T10692 wrench
-Craftsman Long C torque wrench
-A whole lot of good old screwdrivers including Mac, Craftsman amber handles, Stanley, etc.
-S-K 3/4” extension
-misc Snap-On, Craftsman, Bonney, Duro,K-D, etc.

thanks

Does anybody recognize this forked guy. Looks familiar. Forgot to get the numbers off it.

Edit: NM. It was right there in the Snap-On 1946 catalog. I’ll have to look it over to see how it’s marked and if it’s Snappy.

You seriously paid $40 for all that? That’s a fantastic find!

@3baygarage You ****! Mostly because you caved in and gave up your personal info to The Borg (FB)...

Well, maybe it's not all bad...

Blue point combos, Snap-on goodness, a few Long-C items plus all the miscellaneous tools for $40?
I'm not sure how 7 of 9 fits in there, but 3bay, you certainly ****!

Believe it or not Mike, they locked my account right after the seller and I exchanged info. I hadn’t copied it down, so I had to release my phone # to FB to reactivate it. Later that night they locked me out again! Said I need to send them a photo to verify my identity (not for use in my profile). . They’ve given me 30 days to decide. Oooo, big bad Facebook!
I get that knowing who everyone is, is the theme, but their “we don’t allow fake profiles“ message is laughable.

Sure wish they would crack down on actual spammers. I seem to get a few “is this still availables” from scammers each day🙄

Also of note…. 3bay kicks off the gs 2023 thread with 2 ***** the 4th day in. Well done!

I had a similar experience when I was trying to buy a backhoe in the fall. They wouldn't let me access FBMP, they wanted me to "connect and make friends" first. Then when I didn't do that, they demanded a phone number.

Needless to say, I'm still a proud Flintstoner...
