Picked up some more stuff up in Logan. $120 for everything. Was really pleased to get the shaper and I'm not sure what the motor with chuck is exactly. Was thinking for some tool grinder but not sure - any ideas? Also not sure on the Bluepoint wrenches.

Atlas 7b shaper in great shape ;):

Not exactly sure what this guy is for:

Bluepoint wrenches - not sure what these are for either but were super cool:

Around 40 lbs of rusty drill bits and endmills and some small Al stock and brass shim stock at the top of the pic:

Some more solid thinner barstock and some thick-wall pipe, and the shaper is sitting on a ~4'x4' sheet of 1/2" aluminum plate.

Inhales profusely, draws a hard vacuum, moves golf balls through garden hoses, however one can say it, you do, BD55! Well done!

For those who don't know (and I counted myself in that crowd before I went and looked), here's a Youtube video on how that shaper works:

It's not very often that I wish that I had been first to a sale, but BD55 and his shaper find made me jealous. It's not often that something like that comes up at such a price.
So--you **** BD55!

I don't need one, but now I want one! Let me throw another **** on the fire!

Even after watching the videos (and I watched several to figure out what you could make with it), I could never justify owning one of those. But, WOW, what a score!

Hi, everyone! I'm not really a tool collector but I can't pass up an estate sale, garage sale, auction, flea market, etc, etc... I wish I had found this place sooner so I could have bragged about my $3 Beverly B3 shear. Oh well.
I stopped at the local ReStore and was disappointed. All I found was a 12 pt 1/2 drive 5/8 socket. Williams brand. Any good?
I'll keep an eye out for stuff you guys might want, if you like.

Nice haul. I see a few "hidden in plain sight" gems in there

Can you let us know what the swivels are marked? I have a partial set of (H) with the =Craftsman= logo, instead of the usual knurled set. Along with a BE set with the knurling...

I had my eye on an ES that advertised a Block Grinder on a homemade stand and a vintage floor model drill press. From the pictures I couldn't tell the HP of the grinder nor the make of the DP so I decided I'd better get there early. I was #3 in line and #2 into the garage. The grinder was a 1/2hp but I was dismayed to find they wanted $115 for it. The DP was an Atlas but it was priced well above my range at $250. Poking around the now crowded garage, I saw mostly non-vintage tools but the common thread tying everything together was the high price of almost everything. I found the Indestro 1/4" hex drive set (shaft is stamped Indestro Mfg Corp Made in USA) and the Thorsen 80M spinner for $2 each and thought them a comparative bargain.

I then found a small tub of loose 1/2" sockets--individually marked $2 or $3--and realized it could be a full set, but at a combined total of $50, I wasn't buying. I decided to ask for a "set" price vs. buying individuals. Earlier, I had advised the agent (husband of the company owner) that his Jorgensen miter saw ($30) and his Jorgensen miter box ($35) sitting across the garage from each other actually went together, so he was willing to talk--a little. After a lot of "It's the first day" and "My wife wouldn't allow it" he finally wouldn't go lower than $30. I said if he threw in the Indestro and Thorsen, I'd go for it.

The second sale of the day had virtually nothing of interest but I picked up the Armstrong No. SA-51 ratchet and the attached Blackhawk 1" 6pt for $2. The socket may be an impact or not but was used for one and is cracked.

Now back to the 1/2" set--I need help! I know that Indestro used stars, Duro used trapezoids and S-K used dots on either side of the socket size of their old unbranded sockets--but most of these have only one dot, placed after the size--but consistency doesn't even enter into it!
Of the three largest, two use the (/) symbol to denote fractional size and the one inch is the only one of the whole lot that uses the (") inch symbol.
The next three use the dash (-) for fraction but can't be bothered to have just one dot--they all have five! : size : and then the main dot.
The next four go back to a single dot. The 5-8 is an 8pt.
Then the 9-16 8pt reverses the five dot series placing the main dot first.
The next group goes back to a single dot, but 17/32 is a larger font and uses the (/) (neither seen since the first row) while the 7-16 8pt is upside down. The first 1-2 is an 8pt.
The last row reverts to the single dot with the 3-8 & 5-16 4pts upside down. The other three are 6pts.

Does anyone know who made these?

Mostly S-K, especially the ones with the single punch marks. Sometimes dashes were substituted for the dots. 086F6D3D-8E54-4555-B89D-2EF5711EE0CA.jpegBCB2912C-6B16-4AEF-BC4D-ED830CB746A5.jpegE5573F0F-38DF-46A5-AD82-281410687C76.jpeg6C329A58-DE83-4674-ACCE-A5F90DF973E7.jpeg053B24DC-BEA2-4D1F-A7A8-2AC5B5260B6C.jpegThey weren’t known for their consistency in marking the early sockets. It has been discussed by OTG and myself on the vintage S-K thread.

Thanks for replying, Don!
Although at first glance they do seem like S-Ks, there are features on mine that won't let me completely agree.

1. Where S-K's dots flanking the size occasionally slip to one, none or a dash, mine are more consistently :ROFLMAO: single dotted following the size and slip to a multitude of dots--but not a single one slips to the standard S-K one dot on each side.
2. Where S-K's larger sockets are tapered in from the barrel and then rounded over on the lip, mine are straight sided with a distinct bevel at the lip.
3. S-K's cross knurling seems more narrow. I can count five (5) full diamond depressions (no halvesies) on a diagonal row on mine but no more than four (4) on your S-Ks.

FINALLY undertook the task of getting under the VERY BACK of long deceased father-in-law’s work bench. No duress other than needing to create more horizontal surfaces on which to put accumulation er, uh, collection(s). So, this was my alternative flea market/estate sale find today.

The 1/4” drive Carb-O-Mang sockets shown in the 1943 S-K wartime catalog seem to only have one dot on one side of the size markings. That could have been the same on the larger drive sizes as well, I suppose. You may have to do a deep dive on Alloy Artifacts to see if you can find other matching examples.

They are all Circle H but the = lines = are not consistent some appear shorter than others.

Maybe I missed it. What brand is the self-storing nut driver?
It's Indestro. I remember you mentioning one in a thread just recently but I can't recall where.
I compared it to the No. 360 displayed on AA and mine doesn't have any recognizable branding on the handle (although mine is quite worn), but mine is stamped INDESTRO MFG CORP MADE IN USA on the shaft. There is no indication of a model number that I can see. I'm wondering if mine may be older than AA's example.

BTW, do you have any insight on my socket branding question above in posts 507 & 509?

Probably a few places. I flatly think Hosford (Duro) ripped off Perry-Fay, changing the central idea of the design in a way I don't find very novel. My Perry-Fay thread here.

I'm a little rusty on that topic. I do have some Carb-O-Mang sets I can look at in comparison.
