Today's free on the curb find. This was one of four, and the only one with the drawers underneath, but no leveling feet. Was a bit of a challenge to grab one of the middle ones, put it on a furniture dolly, and get it into the truck solo, as the spacing of the rails was just wrong for the dolly. But it's in the house now, biding time until I can clear a space for it. Unfortunately a laminated particle board top and top shelf, but will do for now.

And the blue is a close match for the cabinets from my last find. Have not found a name brand on this one yet.

When you live in a smallish town (50k) it is kinda inevitable.
Geez, our 15k are spread out over 12 miles, but only about 1 mile inland. We would be ecstatic with 2 decent estate sales in town, except for the loss of the people.

That may be a workstation for ESD. Check the uline catalog. I think you’ll find something very similar. Nice!

I don’t think this counts as a sale but Shiftless and the lovely Mrs Shiftless stopped by today to pick up a piece of historic china that my wife found at an estate sale last week. Shiftless had a nice group of vintage tools for me to pick through. Here are the keepers.D1A5D282-868C-4185-B7F6-B6CEE79AEF4F.jpeg
The Visegrips have the 1942 patent date a pretty nice patina.2B8A0931-BA1E-4261-910D-B293ACC3ABD2.jpeg37FCB04D-D9B5-4476-A9B0-4713915024B9.jpeg
The early 3/8” drive Cornwell ratchet cleaned up well and works great.5BE3250A-C82B-40FE-BE96-9B57BEDEAF97.jpegDD5C062C-4974-4A90-8627-8FDAB050796B.jpeg
Hopefully, I’ll have the pieces on hand to complete the Thorsen sourced fractional Powr-Kraft socket set.8A41CC46-D416-4847-8EFA-A46FF9F9CCEB.jpeg

Catching back up and I’m proud to say I’m an Eagle as well. Both my brothers and I achieved that rank.

On a more exciting note, a coworker won an auction lot last week and wanted help picking it up the other day.
It was a miscellaneous items lot covering two different work benches and a metal cabinet. The kicker, is that it didn’t specify that the workbenches were included but it also didn’t say they weren’t.
So we went hoping they were as I thought from one of the images the one might be something special.

Anyways, here is what was hiding under all the mouse chewed boxes, random bits of metal, hardware and a few tools.

I disassembled it since I don’t currently have space to have it set up and also because several of the legs need remade as they rotted away sitting on the dirt floor of the barn it was in.
Pexto stake table with 2 #982 stake plates.
I roughly tripled my coworkers $30 investment into the lot and helped him load the rest of the goods into his truck.

Eagle here also. I recently had my resume reviewed by several older engineers in the field and they told me that the Eagle honor is a waste of resume space and shouldn't be on it anymore.

Take it however you want to, but being Eagle isn't looked as high in today society.

A little 4" Diamond adjustable for $5. A half gallon of still sealed NOS Masury varnish for $4. (still good and it's very hard to find real varnish these days). A box of about 1 dozen various leather hides for $60.P1100532.jpgP1100538.jpgP1100539.jpg

From those photos I can barely tell it's a vise.

There's a school of thought that your resume should only be one page and show current accomplishments. In that regard, I could understand the comment.

I wouldn't say it's any less highly regarded. I'm a senior-level engineer, and know many people who respect it, even those who never earned it. There is a much greater percentage of the population who simply don't know what it is.

If someone told me that it's not respected, they'd immediately lose my respect, and I'd be looking elsewhere for work.

I haven't been by as often so I dont know what prompted the Scouting references but will claim to be a First Class Scout with a couple of merit badges.
I specifically remember qualifying for the Lifesaving badge over the Christmas holidays in an unheated pool.
Now it was Florida but still, damn cold for me.

Anyhoo...
I love Friday yard sales !
I stumbled across this set of Milani stone carver calipers(Italian).
These are also used in reproduction of 3D sculptures. I did not know what they were used for but bought them anyway.(not unusual!!) A little research later showed these suckers are pricey ! Also they came with some delicate tools, maybe for clay work? Note: Steel Rifflers for Stone ! There were a couple of tool rolls with different stone chisels and other heavy tools that I left. The same sale netted me a Planimeter by Dietzgen. (A planimeter is a table-top instrument for measuring areas, usually the areas of irregular regions on a map or photograph.) Neat looking devise I will flip. Also picked up nice Stanley square and some old screwdrivers.

Later in the morning I asked a seller about a vise in his garage and the old gent told me it wasnt for sale. I grabbed a business card out of my van and went back and asked him to call me if he ever was ready to sell it. He told me he would never sell it. I turned to leave and was just about out the door when he yelled "I got a small one !". Well, OK !! He pointed under a work bench with a table in front of it and said "it's down there". Well I have my own health issues but figured I could at least look, and when I did I saw the bottom of a clamp on vise (my fav!). So I scooted in there and grabbed it and headed back out, asking him before I got the vise out all the way how much ? $10 he said. OK I said! It was a Stanley vise in the art deco streamline style! It had been spray bombed unfortunately but a little clean up at home reveled it to be a No. 766. It's missing a jaw face and I wish it wasn't painted but still a great find.

@RedVise: You **** for the $10 Stanley vise!

The Eagle / Scouting thing morphed from a discussion about a Sharpshooter medal. GJ at its finest, LOL...

So I just returned home after 3 days wandering around the Valley Forge PA area with Mrs No_Garage. We hit a number of Antique stores but nothing caught my eye. On the way home we stopped in Bristol PA and I found something at a "Antique Store" in town.
It's an ADGIF Mechanical pencil. The body appears to be anodized Aluminum and the imprinted advertisement is for:

Chesapeake Box & Lumber Co.
Box Shooks & Crates
Phone 23903
Norfolk, VA.

ADGIF Mechnical Pencil.jpeg
I like old writing implements and this was interesting. The mechanism works fine and the eraser has fossilized (as expected).

After a quick Google Search there are tons of ADGIF pencils on the Bay with various advertisements, so it's not particularly rare but cool all the same.

Cheers

Jim

It was a little nippy on the pippy this morning and I almost didn't go, but I'm glad I did (Lugz 2023_07).

I probably should've left the tools behind. I don't have a collection of Bonney water pump wrenches going, and I already have the pliers, which are Kraueter military ("U.S." martial marking) from WWI.

The booklets are prizes. The Hand Tools (care and use) manual is from 1951, the Blueprints how-to is from 1943. Chock full of terrific - and, as is often the case - some funny illustrations.

2023_07A.jpg

The box underneath tickled my Grandpa funny bone - and may very well turn out to be my best find of the year, considering the brand.

Here is my haul from a late lunch yesterday, estate sale near SFO. Prices marked on the wall were prett high, so I was choosing judiciously. Final price was much better than the posted prices, but needed to run back for a meeting. Bunch of Craftsman stuff had been set aside as sold before I got there.

KD pliers of some type (hose clamp?), Bonney 7/16” polished combo, no triangle, Vise Grip needle-nose, looks to be US made, Barcalo parrot pliers, 2x wooden screwdrivers.

As I mentioned a couple days ago, there were two sales in my town on Friday that looked interesting. Well, as in most such things, they weren't as interesting as the photos, but I managed to find a couple things
52696980140_fdd87270c7_c.jpg
The first one was being run by a favorite company of mine; small time, they often do trailer park homes and other locations the bigger companies don't want to bother with. But, they are always willing to deal, so I often hit them first. This time I picked up a couple sliding top boxes (one filled with plumbing gaskets) a Craftsman 6" tri-square, Proto and SK Wayne spinners, T&D set screwdriver, chisel handle, Machineries handbook (19th), and a nearly full set of numbered bits. All of that for $7, so you see why I hit them up!

52696054547_a23dd3a6f1_c.jpg
The second sale was by a much larger company, with corresponding prices. I picked up two sets of screw outs (red one is Blue Point), Plomb T-handle, Proto LA extension (with Craftsman socket), a Craftsman ratchet I need for a set, and a power cord, which I can always use. I also picked up this vintage lamp

3 buys this week, one was an auction, one estate sale and one was a gun show purchase. Picked up the 6 drawer Craftsman at a cabinet shop out-of-business online auction, the (useful to me)contents included the pictured 35mm bit and the Rockler magnets and mounts. The estate sale netted the Craftsman punches and chisels and 6mm combo. The gun show yielded the stock certificate as I have a thing for ephemera with the word Lincoln, for some reason :)

Cool box, Beemer. Handy for smalls.

I posted cleaned-up shots of the trench pliers in the Kraeuter thread, and the water pump wrench in the Bonney thread, and also some pics from the books in Beemer's 'Books' thread. I also started a thread linked here for the boy's tool chest, which I am 99.9% certain is ca. 1890's Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co.

I hit up 3 sales today with my wife and son. We all had a fun time. The best one was a no pictures add for a barn clean out. Most of the items pictured came from there. This was a real clean out with dust and junk everywhere and raccoon **** in some places but I had fun and my son had a blast too so that’s what counts. My son wanted the green metal box pictured and the army ammunition pouch. He’s 9 and loves old stuff like I do so you gotta start em young.

- I paid $55 for everything pictured. Found some really cool items. A bunch of the p&c tools pictured still have the yellow price tags on them since I picked them up in the town next to where the factory was

-2 vintage aircraft oxygen containers- from before aircraft cabins where pressurized. I believe ww2?

- nice shape p&c 3/4 drive box, various screwdrivers, chisels, carpentry squares

- Blackhawk tool company hydraulic jack oil can- 1 gallon size, double marked Armstrong/Blackhawk doe

-various Proto la and Proto mfd bits

- 2 plomb dbe’s and a chisel

-true test oil can

It was great to get out of the house and just dig!

I'm totally jealous if that's the Craftsman side drawers. I hope you got a steal.

Stopped by a tool sale late in the morning. The seller was a heavy equipment mechanic. Nearly everything hand tools were well used to abused. Bent, busted, battered, and broken. Prices were high so I only picked up a few things. A friend ;) who arrived first thing in the morning said some of the good items in photos were already gone. :dunno:

I left with a Plomb long extension, Snap-On Swedish pliers, old Snap-On puller, and GM Goodwrench ratchet.

I didn't exactly steal it, but I got it at about 1/3rd of ebay pricing. I did order two keys via Ebay and I'm on the lookout for an original mounting bracket. Bracket not a dealbreaker as this one will likely sit on the bench downstairs if the better condition one I have for sale sells on FBM,it too needed keys when I bought it.
