Posting this here in Vintage tools since I’m sure some here may think I’m a vintage tool…

OK, this is my twenty thousandth post (not counting the ones deleted in any “threads gone bad”). It doesn’t seem any different than the others, except it’s not about tools, or “doing stuff”.

I’m also coming up on 5 years here at GJ in a few days. I’ve enjoyed it, and expect to stay with it. I’m only the 4th person to pile up this many posts, but others are getting there also (some faster than others…).

So why spend time at Garage Journal? I obviously like GJ and posting here. It’s a good crowd, and a fun place. I’ve made some “internet buddies”, done some trading here and there, learned a lot, and hopefully helped others. I know we are an odd bunch to many people, and you know what? It doesn’t matter what others think of our interests here. What matters is being able to share with others of like interests.

Where else can you ask about how to resurrect a tool many might just toss? And not just resurrect, sometimes they become better than new! Why shouldn’t we give these tools, the tools that our forefathers used to help make this nation great, new life that can last until the next generation? Sure there are some other like-minded groups, but most have a much narrower focus. I like the openness and broad choices GJ brings to the game, and I think it is unique in that way.

And then there is learning some of the history of the companies and men behind the tools. Fascinating stuff.

There are so many notable threads, and for different purposes, like the vise threads, the vintage and Craftsman grinder threads, threads on specific tool brands, like Plvmb, SO, Craftsman, Bonney, Williams, the list is nearly endless… or tool types, like hammers, DBE’s or DOE’s… Threads on finding the tools, from the various threads on where to buy new tools, and maybe get a discount, or to show them off and let people know about the new and used tools we find.

Threads on what we do with the tools, or how to use the tools to fix particular things, threads like the “What did you do in your garage?” thread, or threads on fabrication, or how to organize or even build your dream garage, shed, shop, or barn… It’s all good.

I spend little time in Free Parking, but many do for the fun of it. Why? Because like elsewhere in Garage Journal, it’s a fun crowd, and when you get right down to it, that’s what Garage Journal is all about: The people; people sharing, people learning, people joking around with each other, people tempting others, and people exploring new horizons.

So here is to all the people that make up Garage Journal! You all help make it what it is!

And last but not least, a shout out to all those people behind the scenes that keep it all going: Owners, moderators, super moderators, etc. Muchas Gracias to the mostly un-sung heroes! :rocker: I know it’s not all fun and games to those people, doing and having done such in other forums.

For posterity:

Outlaw: first off i'd like to thank you again for welcoming me to GJ so many posts ago. you were very helpful and i'm sure all my questions have raised a few hairs on the back of your neck some days. just know i appreciate all you do for me and for GJ and the guys.

i've taken a page from your book and tried to welcome everybody and i still miss some that is for certain.I also help as time allows to make them feel at home and hopefully a few of them will stick around and be as active and sharing as you are.

in any case as you probably know i never have tried to go for most posts because i've been multy posting since almost the first posts i made, but they still add up with all my WELL DONES and Welcome to GJ posts that i think are needed and hope i haven't worn out my welcome.

keep up the good work and i think i even saw you multy posting a few times so maybe you learned something from me. i'm not sure if i'm the least handiest guy on GJ, but somebody that keeps track said i had the most posts per day. i think it was maybe 13 posts per day so even at that rate i'd still have to be here 10 or 20 more years to catch you unless you stop posting which i hope doesn't happen.

take care and here's to good health and hope your family is in great shape too.

Woody: you are off duty on the vintage patrol and changing it to post patrol?? hope you find more things to keep you busy and i'll try to post more questions in vintage tools that haven't been answered yet so i can get your answers that are awesome.

Congrats on the 20,000 milestone. I'm here only a short time compared to some. You folks have taught me a bunch, and most posters have likely forgotten more than I know.

Thanks to everyone

There aren't many that can earn the admiration and respect of so many simply by posting on a forum. You are one of them Outlaw.

Congrats Outlaw!

I've been a part of so many different communities on the internet, and oh so many different forums. But the wide array of people from so many different walks of life and so many different age groups makes this one very special. There is so much knowledge, about seemingly anything, on here it is astounding at times.

You truly are one of the people on here that I look forward to reading posts from, especially in the Garage Sale thread because you always end up finding cool stuff, and sometimes off the wall stuff that you have ideas to repurpose into something else. The fact you don't have a thread in the Garage Gallery sub adds a little mystical touch to your posts too... I keep seeing all the cool stuff you find and keep saying to myself "Holy ****, he must have one heck of a stocked garage!"

My girlfriend, even without having no idea who you are, probably hates you. Reading your posts keeps adding onto my list of stuff I want, but that also goes for a lot of people here.

Here's to your next 20,000 posts Outlaw, and again, thanks for sharing your knowledge (and finds!) with us!

Outlaw, congratulations on the 20K mark. I appreciate the knowledge and humor you've shared at GJ, along with the never-ending list of eye candy in the garage sale thread (did you find that box full of Snap-on wrenches just to celebrate your 20,000th post?). I especially respect the kind of work ethic it takes to come here regularly and make 20K contributions.
