I recently bought the 20v max dewalt lithium ion drill combo to build a cabin on my property. I have never owned cordless tools before, so I read the instructions which said nothing about my two questions.

I need to know if I can put a fresh charge on a half or quarter full battery? That way both are topped off when I work on my place.(no power for charging there) I am worried about "memory" in the battery. Also can I charge with my job site generator?

I did call dewalt tech line and while the woman was nice she didn't seem to know much which left doubt with her answer that doing both are ok. Thought I would ask the guys that may actually use the tools for your input.

Everyone will give you a different answer, but manufacturers have come out and said Li Ion batteries do not have a memory anymore. There's no problem charging them from 1/2 Or even more. They have said most batteries only last about 500 charge cycles (average) so with that in mind it is best to try to run them down to make each charge count. Also there should be no issue charging with your generator.
