It’s time to organize and clean up this messy garage.

Painted it “crushed strawberry” 8 years ago, while I like red it’s too dark and looks pink from the road when it’s sunny.

Goals in no particular order:

Above garage door storage
Nothing but the bare minimum touching the floor
Paint with some type of design
Recoat Epoxy
Add lighting
Change polymer cabinets for minimalistic wood ones that don't sag...
Foldable workbench mounted to wall
Hardline compressor and/or add reel
Hardline shopvac
install 220v outlet for welder
Add 110v receptacles
etc…

Few images before I start:

For some reason I had 2 header boards, I'm guessing the top one was on the plans, but we raised the 1st level ceiling to 9 foot. not sure to be honest.

Anyways, Noticed that the nails didn't line up when I was trying to find the studs to get a baseline measurement.

The top one I already took down

This one you can see the nails missing the stud. It misses on the left and right side.

Cut the drywall to match the top and moved the top header down.

Noticed the bracket was broke...

Re: 20x20 Redrum

Framed out a 6x6 platform above garage rails. The backside is sitting on the garage header and lag screwed to the studs behind that. The front is lag screwed to a truss. I dont plan add storing to heavy of items up top but I was able to hang and swing my weight (215) without movement.

Wow - that is bright.

Your shelf looks great! - though....I would paint up there before doing too much more....it's just going to get harder and harder to paint as you add storage. So much to work around.

You confused me with your header comment. I don't see two headers, I see one for the garage door and some sort of a mounting plate for the garage door opener. Agree it should have been cut longer to attach to the the three studs.

I'll be watching your progress - your shelf build looks very accurate.

Couldn’t think of anything else to call it, but you’re right.

My goal is to remove everything from the garage and huff the paint as I spray it again. The shelves will be white or light grey matching the walls.

Although I'm noticing now how much harder it’s going to be painting with the plywood on.

Think I’m going to mirror this shelf on the right side as-well.

I agree paint it before you attach the plywood. Gonna be way hard to paint with the floor on the shelf. Paint the frame and then paint the floor on the ground and then install it. I wish I could do the same thing as you, but I don't have enought room above my doors. If you like the red you may be able to tone it down and leave the bottom painted that color, stripe the between that and a lighter top color. It would save painting the lower part.

Realistically you should have primed the entire place before starting.

Rip everything down and prime it, because it's going to take you 3-4 coats to cover that red with white or gray

5gal of kilz with a graco magnum x7 should do the trick. Just need to buy a extension wand to make it easier to paint the ceiling.

Everything will come out for the spray. Just not sure where to store my **** right now.

I think just painting the ceiling white would go a long way to reducing the "redness" of the place, I think I'd leave the walls alone, or maybe just add a stripe or two.

I have that same stainless tool box, and I absolutely love mine!

Great use of the space above the garage door. Its great the you have enough distance between door and ceiling to do so. Are you planning another one on other side of track?

I just relooked at it and looks to be easy meaning dont really see a problem. If you take a look at my thread I see that building some high shelfs from front to back and side to side should clear up alot of floor and wall space for yaas well as storage above door you just made. Good luck

Yeah, I think im going to. Even if I dont use it all, it's better to have it just in case. 2 of them that will give me 72 square feet with 20 inches of depth.

Weight wise, I'm not sure how much to trust with the minimal bracing I've done.

What's your thread link?
