Added AC to the garage. I still need to trip the outside, but it works well!

Beginning the last project in the front. Kind of garage related as it is the driveway.

Next to fill them with concrete and cover them in brick.

My first time checking this out. I first went to page 1 then to this last page and WOW!!! what a transformation. You have been busy and it all looks great. Love the garage as well as all the landscape features you've done. All it needs now is a 64' LeSabre convertible sitting out front.

Now to read the rest of the story.....

No, and eventually this will be replaced with porcelain tile. Live and learn.
Hello Jim, just found your thread on your shop. You have done an awesome job. I read it from start to finish. It's amazing what you and your wife have done since the two of you moved in.
I'm planing a shop revamp in the future and noticed you said you would do porcelain next time. What are you thought about the epoxy paint some shop use? My concerns is how would the porcelain hold up to floor jacks. I like porcelain better if it will hold up to the jacks. I want to do something other than bare cement.
Looking forward to when you start your shop expansion. Keep us updated.

Hi Jim,
Read through your garage build thread and am building one the same size. I plan on raising the ceiling to 9 foot almost exactly like yours and insulating and finishing. How many lights did you end up going with and is it enough light to work by? My shop will be primarily used for restoring Honda minis so I want plenty of light for the small stuff. Todd.

Awesome work on everything from the house to the landscaping and the garage of course! I think you should have the house appraised to see how much you have increased the value of the place! Not for re-sale purposes, but so that you can justify spending more money on Bike stuff to your wife!

Just found this thread, the style and front elevation of the home caught my eye. I am totally into porches. Have a large one on my home. I went with a 24X24 shop, to the back and right of our home. But I also have an attached 22X22 garage on the house. I always try to remember "less is more". I think build the shop you can afford, remembering cost/benefit. My 24X24 works well for me, maybe a 32X40 would be better, but I doubt it. Then I would just want a 40X60.

Hi,

Thanks, If you go to the flooring section you will see many who have done tile and tested it against damage. It is very tough!

Shop build should, hopefully, start next year!

Hi Todd,

Thanks! I currently only have four 4 foot dual light fixtures. It is good enough for basic work. I do use extra lighting for tight spots.

Thanks,

The city reappraises our houses every two years for taxes. It is up $80K so far.

I did add to the garage this year, a new bike! :lol_hitti

Hi, Thanks, the porch caught our eye, and then the rest of the house. I like the style.

I sure wish I could have a larger garage from the start, but it was already included in the price, so I didn't have a chance to enlarge it.

Same concept, a bit more basic.

My cuts still ****, but my welding is getting better, for wire flux core:

Dude, Bravo!

For me, your driveway and yard work has inspired me. lol

Looking back on this - do you wish you had opted for making your garage a bit larger?
As it goes, you never say, "I wish I had less storage space".....

Love the brick work and landscaping. And the tile on the porch! That was genius!

I have a porch that was painted at one point and we were debating how to make it look better. This will do just that - and I wanted to add the railing too.

How was the brick cost compared to pouring concrete? Brick adds so much character!

Super inspired. Thank you for sharing your project!

Dude, Bravo!

Thanks, it has been an experience!

For me, your driveway and yard work has inspired me. lol

Looking back on this - do you wish you had opted for making your garage a bit larger?I wish I had the choice. We bought the house and the garage was thrown in. No choice on size, but I would have preferred a 20X30 or 40.

Thanks, another new experience for me. I think it came out pretty good. I wish I had done the garage in tile too.

I have a porch that was painted at one point and we were debating how to make it look better. This will do just that - and I wanted to add the railing too.

Interestingly, the material costs were similar, but the labor was more. Still worth it. I have a three year old concrete pad in front of the garage and it looks 10 years old already, but the brick looks great!
Super inspired. Thank you for sharing your project!

My pleasure!

Just finished reading the whole thread. Love every part of it, some may say small, but honestly its perfect and functional. Your home has a lot of curb appeal. I'm really digging the property line fence that is split by the large tree.

Thanks Brian. It is certainly not for everyone, especially since it is in the middle of the DC metropolis, but we like it, and it is functional!
