Hey all, I'm planning a 20 x 22 detached garage build at my central Florida home and have a few questions I'd like to get your thoughts on. The garage will have a golf simulator in it and mostly used as a man cave and to tinker on woodworking and car projects.

First off, what type of framing would you recommend?
To make space for the golf simulator, I want the walls at least 9' tall. Like most Florida houses, my home has CMU walls on a slab-on-grade foundation. Is this the best way to go for a garage as well? I'm also considering stick framed walls on a short stem wall. I'm planning on having 2 windows, one access door, and one 7x16 insulated overhead door. Since I'll be using it for a golf simulator, noise control and climate control are important.

Beyond the construction methods, anything else you would recommend for a new build? For example, I don't really need plumbing, but should I have this roughed in for potential future use? My main goal is to avoid finishing the build and think "Oh, I wish I did this or that from the start." Thanks in advance.

Nothing wrong with block and it gives you a great head start on sound transmission. Double pane windows - doubled if sound is real important. As heavy of door as possible. The role up doors with hurricane rating are much better than typical garage doors for sound transmission.

Just notes from my expertise on acoustics.

Id go at least 24 deep so in the future anyone can get a crew cab truck in there.

I’m in the north, but can you build it to be hurricane proof Or at least resistant? Might make it so you can go there to protect you and your family. Once again, I live in the cornfields of Iowa so I really don’t know.

My garage is 22x22 and it's too small. I can work in there but it's tight. Luckily my folks bought the neighbors property and the past two years we've been fixing up that garage. It's 36x38 and although much larger than my garage, that garage could still be bigger! If you can go 24x24 or a little bigger I think you would be happier. Even for a mancave. It will also make the property more valuable for resale.
