Well it has begun. I have been looking for quotes and asking the HOA for their permission to improve my house. After a lot of this work this summer I now have a contractor and approval from the HOA. It's the wife's idea to live in this type of place. The neighborhood has 3/4 acre lots but still are a little crazy about this stuff.
Any way all permits and approval is now attained. I now have four stakes where it will be. It's going to be in the back of my yard because of a septic system. It's going to have two rooms. A 20x20 work area and a 10x20 room for the lawn equipment tool boxes and the motorcycle. Other then that I will be looking for ideas on this site. I plan is to have the garage attached to the house to only have the two cars in it. So any way will try to figure out how to post pictures and be a good member to the group.

Ok that's where I am at right now. Waiting for the trusses now. Trying to decide if I want to put a role up door right now or just keep cost down for now and build swinging doors. The one door I am going steel. I am not pinching pennies on the build right now. I am going with waiting to put electric and stuff like that. It's going to take a while to get it the way I want. But I would rather do that then take a short cut on the build and regret it latter

Ok I now have it framed and up. Me and a few friends put the shingles on. Not to hard but I know now I am getting older. The doors are up and I have been sealing getting ready for paint. The soffits go in tomorrow and the garage door. Will get some pictures up here this weekend I hope. Sorry I been busy working and working in this garage. It went from a shed to a garage. Can't wait to start moving in and getting it set up. Will have to wait for electric and insulation and finishing off the end side. Money is needed for other things. That's life.

Today got the garage door installed. I was going to paint it white but it looks so good I am now going to paint the other door brown. The door was a miss order and the guy had it lying around for a year. We made the opening just for this door. Let me say this door is sweet. Now I need to get a nicer door on the house garage. Lol. Any way I put the motor cycle and the lawn mower in it for now. Finial inspection is not done and I don't want start putting things in there in till its done. I have a lot of ideas for it but for now after the paint its done. Will add electric and work benches and shelves latter. Money is gone. Here are some pictures of today. Have to go to work for now.

Today I got the new garage all sealed up. It took a lot longer then I thought. Tomorrow is the widow and door inspection and I hope the finial. If they won't do it till I paint then they will have to wait till after thanksgiving. Tomorrow I will do the window trim and the prepair for work. I have slowly been moving stuff in to the garage side. Next month I want to build a shelf for the house garage so none of the storage stuff makes it out there. Once that's done I will work on getting some built for the shed. You can never have enought storage space.

You can...You need to click on the paper clip icon to do it.
Only thing is that they are thumbnails which expand when clicked on

Well today I am trying to find paint that matches the house to paint it with. That's turning into a pain. Also getting things put back into place that was arranged for the contractors. All is almost back to normal and I can start doing things with the garage. Can't wait.

The trim around the windows is now done. I need to seal them up and I am ready for the finial inspection. This thanksgiving weekend I plan to paint it and be done with it for a while. The next plan will be to move everything out there get shelves made in the house garage and move all the house hold stuff back into the house garage. I want this new garge to be like a workshop. Not holding Christmas decorations. But every thing takes time I guess. I can say I am very pleased with it. If I had to do it again I think I would have cheated the HOA and went 22x34. What do they know right. After all that pain in the *** to get them to approve it they have not looked at it one time. Or I could of moved to a place where they don't care but that part is over also. Hope to post painted photos next week. Till then enjoy.

I got it painted. I have a couple of spots to fix. One of the chalks I used the paint did not stick to. Lucky for me I did not use much of it. Finial inspection next week and it's ready to move into.

Over all I am happy with how the shed turned out. I just don't like what I am doing with it right now. It has become a storage shed. Not the plan. I have been cleaning out the house garage and forth bedroom. My question is how does one have so have much ****. I hauled two truck loads of **** to the dump today but I still have boxes of stuff that the wife would not let leave. Enought blankets and curtains to last two life times now in my new garage. What a sham. I will build a shelf for the garage in the house and the wife can put everything in totes and get my new garage back. But I need to get this stuff out of the house it's driving me nuts.

Ok so today I started the shelf for the house garage. The plan is that I will build shelves for the wife and buy here plastic totes and hope fully the house hold things will stay out of the back yard garage I just built. We have been cleaning out the fourth bedroom and moving things to my back yard garage and I found out there was more in there then I thought. How can one women get so much stuff in to a 10x12 room. All that stuff made a mess out of my garage. Plus the stuff that was being stored in the house garage. So I will finish the shelf tomorrow and hope to get the totes here in a week or so. Waiting for all those red and green ones to go on sale at Walmart. And get the house hold stuff back into the house garage.

Well today me and the wife got the totes for the shelves we bought for the house garage. Well something went wrong. I can't fit the totes on the top shelve without hitting the roof. Well tomorrow I am going to have to adjust the levels of each shelf. It seems like I have to do everything 2 or 3 times to get things right. But at least I have the time to do it. Hope to post some pictures after I get it right. Then the next item on the list is to build a work bench for the new shed or back yard garage. I really got to figure out what I am going to call it.

Sounds like you better have a good lock on that shop or wifey will have it filled up in an overnight heartbeat. My neighbor might be married to her sister and he is having a tough time keeping his garage.

Well it's true my wife loves her purses and curtains and everything else. But we forget to look at things from all directions. I have 15 fishing poles three tool boxes filled with tools a motor cycle, boat, camper, and a f-350. So all is well if you get my point.

Looking real good. I have the same size, except my 20X20 area has two garage doors, and my 10X20 is used as a back shop and office. I like your layout real well.

Best Regards

Now I need to figure out how to put electric in it. I won't be paying the price that I was quoted that's for sure.

Well I would at least quote for the run from main panel to sub panel in garage. If know what your doing you could do lighting and outlets if follow the rules.

This a great space! Nice sized yard too. I hope to have more space at our next home to emulate what you've done. Looks great!

Well thank you everyone for the kind words. I have put a lot of thought in to what I wanted and what I needed. (LOL). As far as the wiring goes. I have located a book by Black and Deckerd that tells me how to do everything as far as wiring goes. After reading that book the last few days an hitting up google for a few things I did not understand it looks to be no problem getting power out there. I will just have to take my time. Thanks for everything. I am reading a lot of threads now just to get ideas of my own.

Not a lot has been happening with the garage lately. I have been spending a lot of time cleaning my motor cycle. Its in bad shape because last year I spent a lot of time on it rebuilding the transmission. Then it took me three attempts to get the primary to quit leaking. But any ways its all good now and I am making it shine again. I did help one of my friends build a wooden bench. I think it turned out good.

And while I was building it I was wishing I had a table saw. Well I found one on craigslist for 15$ so I got one now. Needs a little cleaning and a new blade but I am good with it.

Jon it's a lot of work getting it to the point it is now. All the paper work and all that. I went with the idea of getting the building up first. And work on other things as you go. With that being said it ***** having a building that you can use like you want. But these things take time. What ***** even more is having no building. I am studying now how to do the power. My cofindentence is up now because I had a problem in the house and I was able to trouble shoot it and fix it. So there is a lot of learning going on also. Plus all the other things in life slow the progress down.

Ok guys it has been a while since I have been on here. Since my last post I had some problems at work so that has taken up a lot of time. And with the water warming up the boat has taken up my free time. The garages have gotten zero of my time except for the fact I had to do things in them. My wife wrecked here car and while it was getting repaired my old car broke down. So that left only my truck and bike running. I will be attending to the car repair here in the next few day. Today is work on the house day. Yard work sprinkler repair that kinda stuff.

Today I made a run to a Sears store that is closing. I got me a 3 ton jack and jacks stands with a creeper. Also got socket holders for my 1/2 drive sockets. So now all my sockets have magnetic holders and I have quick glance if anything is missing when I am done with a job. In the past I never knew if I had all my tools found. Now all my wrenches and sockets have a place. I still have my eye on the motor cycle lift but I am waiting to see if they are still around when the store gets closer to closing. That way they will have it marked 50-75 percent off. Also a Kmart is closing also and I went in and bought all the gulp fishing lures they had. Can never have to many of these things. And they are hard to find on sale.

1/2 cup. All is well with the wife. It is amazing now how the cars are built to fold up and take all the impact. She was hit from behind and pushed into the car in front of her. So she is fine with some small pain. The car was repaired in less then a week also. Looks good as new. The good thing about all this is my wife had to learn how to drive my truck. Not only she is able to drive it she likes it. So days when I have to drive 50-60 miles to work she can now drive my truck and can drive her newer car. Plus her car is fun to drive also. Nissan maxim are such nice cars. My f-350 is like driving a tank.

Well with the HOA we live in a previous rural area. Well our rural area is now where everything is at and we still have rules like a rural area. It's nice because all the houses around us have all the zero zero lots and we have 3/4 acres at a minimum. My lot is kinda off a little. The guy paid a lot of money to move the house back 20 feet to keep a big *** tree in the front yard. Well that ate up my back yard but it is still a nice size. So as long as you build the garage like the house they let you build it.
