Been taken it easy here in the last few days. Got the yard all mowed and things cleaned up some around here. I got kinda a bad pack rat problem myself. 5 grills 30ish fishing poles lots of stuff so constantly cleaning something. Still waiting to hear back from the marine mechanic on what is exactly is wrong with my motor. I am using to much oil and the idle is a little ruff. Hopefully it is one and the same problem. I have been trying to get it correct the last 90 hours. But not being able to run it longer then 4 hours trolling with it before it fouls the plugs and using a gallon of oil trolling all day or using 1.5 gallons for a 112 miles round trip is ridiculous. Good news is they already told me my rebuild is good. Can’t be much more then an adjustment or bad oil pump. It is a s stroke so don’t be alarmed saying it’s bad rings. Got a few parts lost in the mail for the motor cycle so just waiting a few days to order the parts for the mustang because I still need to help my daughter buy some book for this college semester.

My parts for the Harley finally got hear. I installed the bolts and my rattle went away. I was chancing that for over two years now. Wow two simple bolts holding the exhaust on fell out. Or where never put back in.

Next waiting for the lower control arms to get here for the mustang. The auto parts stores are getting less and less reliable and expensive. Back when we used to just have the dealer parts store and summit how did we ever manage. The internet is normally 1/2 price. Just ***** because I can’t buy the parts at the parts store.

Also been looking for my daughter a car. Man are the dealerships bad with the whole bait and switch here. Oooooo we just sold that car but I have this one here just for a little more. I got asked to leave one lot today and I never raised my voice or insulted them.

Yea got to love the fishing. Update on the boat. After five weeks they can’t find anything wrong with it. So if anyone has an HPDI motor please let me know if it fowls the plugs after four hours at idle.

I replaced the struts on the daughters car and changed the pressure switch in the ac system. Still did not solve the problem. But I did find out there is a blockage. So I ordered a complete system from rock auto and was going to replace it this weekend. Now it appears I will be running from a storm. I need to get this ac fixed so she can quit driving my wife’s car and the wife mine. I miss the mustang. Don’t get me wrong I love the F350 bit it needs cab mounts right now and I hate driving it in the current condition. If the summer was not so damm nice maybe I would have fixed a few things before they piled up. But you got to enjoy the summer.

Are you running a full synthetic oil in the HPDI?

All right I am now back from Texas running from the storm. No damage here it missed us. Had a good time in Texas glad to be home though. Time to get the daughters car back up to par and get my car back. And get my wife’s car repaired also. It has developed a large power steering leak. Got to love keeping cars running. I go through these stages. Nothing nothing nothing. And then everything needs repaired. Some times I just let things go and then repair everything at once.

I got my daughters ac all installed. The only thing I was unable to change out that I wanted to was the expansion valve. I sure hope that’s not what was causing the problem. Before the ac would not kick on and the high and low side where the same pressure. Weird I know. I tried to manually kick on the ac to see what it would do and it blew out a seal when the high side went to 350 lol. Any ways changed the dryer condenser and pump. I put two cans in it that should of been 2 oz short but you know you lose some taking it on and off. So I might get another 6 oz can and put in it. here is the pressure of it running. What do you guys think?

I’d compare the ambient temperature to this chart and the corresponding pressures.

Thanks. I am kinda new with doing my own A/c work. It appears I am a little low on Freon still. By the book I only put 2 oz less then I should have. However, I am sure a few oz stayed in the hose and what not. I’ll add a little more here tomorrow.

I went and ran the boat tonight with a different prop and damm I know remember why I don’t take **** to be repaired. My boat ran like ****. Nothing wrong with it so the marine place says. I loved the new prop to bad I got to give it back but I know what size I need now. I got home and pulled all the plug boots and bingo one bad plug boot. And two wires I could not see the wire ends. So I cut some wire till I found wire and she sounded angry when I fired it up. Will take it out tomorrow to see how she runs. Fuel filters from amazon are on the way. When this motor runs it runs great. But if she is off it’s off.

So today I continued with the boat. I got the link n sync done thanks to someone who sent me the repair manual. Wow should of bought this long time ago. I did the rebuild with my friend so we used his book but I hate to bother him all the time. She is running better but I think once I get the new filters in I will be good. Book says to change them every 50 hours. I am about 110 into them. I changed them before I rebuilt the motor. So I will get them changed and put my old prop back on for now.

Now for the bad news on the daughters car. The ac pump won’t run again. Kicks in then off. Checked the pressure and they have equaled our again. FML. So I guess off to the expansion valve. I went to do it but the book says I have to pull the heater core first. So I called firestone today and they told me 430 with 1.8 hours of labor. There is no way they are pulling the heater core for 1.8 hours in labor. So I think I will pull the lines and try to pul it out without pulling the heater core. Then it will be off to the wife’s car with the power steering leak and rear tail light that needs replaced because you can’t just change a bulb anymore. Life is great with no car payments sometimes but when everything is broken it *****.

I changed the expansion valve in my daughter’s car today. Turned out to be a very easy job. Serviced it up and we will see how it works. Her first trip in it the alternator failed. WTF. it’s one of those weeks I guess.

I was able to pick up a partial boat motor today for a 100 bucks. It has a few sensors on it the starter and a few other useful parts. And of course a complete block. Not that I needed it but with the problems I am seeing out of these new motors and the price I decided it might be a good idea to stock up for the future. Going to get it torn down and boxed up for and if I ever need it. Trying to get a new prop as well off of eBay. We have not agreed on a price yet but it’s an odd size that I that we both know is hard to find.

Ok after fighting this idle problem on my boat that seems like forever I think I got it figured out now. 1st I bought the computer so I could monitor everything and my 02 sensor was just sitting at .02. So I replaced it with one from the other motor I bought. That one was bouncing all around. .40 at least. So that should help with the computer adding fuel at idle. Next the filter bowl was jacked up at the sealing point. Someone had cut it to make it fit instead of putting it in a freezer to make it fit better. Ethanol makes them expand and this new one is a very tight fit also. And finally I decided to put carbon fiber reeds in it. Well I was a little up set because the metal ones looked very good so I did not think it would solve anything. So when I was putting it back together I was missing a bolt. I pulled out my pictures I took before I started and there was not a bolt in one hole. Looked at the old gasket and sure enough it was leaking air. Damm it the simplest things can cause so many problems. So I also got a bigger prop now as well since my old one is to small. Tomorrow I will do a water test and see how well she does. I can already hear a difference in how she is running in the yard. Hope I got it.

I don’t know I didn’t tell you to check the reeds. I’m an idiot. Totally slipped my mind.

That’s great to hear. Post a video of it running!

If you could explain to me how to post the video I would. That missing intake bolt was the whole problem. Man is this motor singing now. Idles as smooth as could be. And with the bigger prop that it can turn now I went from 38 mph top speed to 45. And I can cruise now at 30 at 3800 RPMs instead of 28 at 4400. I now can say I love this motor boat combination. It just took me a year to get hear. And it will also set you back of you nail it. It did not do that in the past. Now to get some fishing in. Hope I can soon find the problem with the A/C in my daughters car.

Well for the garage/shed update. It’s been taking 2nd place to life I guess. It still has not become what I want it to but I will get there. One thing that is great is that I cleaned out the main house garage so two cars can fit in it. And of course a bunch of storage for the wife. The shed on the other had has just became a place where things get put. I kinda need to change that. But I guess I can post some pictures of what it is now.

Wow what to do after getting an HPDI running correctly. So I have been studying for an upgrade at work. Not much of an upgrade but an upgrade never the less. I guess I could fishing a little this weekend. Or clean up the garage this weekend. We will see.

Took the boat out today just to enjoy the ride for the most part. Many she flies now. Unfortunately the steering blew out so I will be learning how to rebuild a sea star steering ram. I can’t wait to get some reliable use out of this boat. She has not been to bad since rebuild just took forever to figure out that missing bolt. Just the whole year I been using inf it I knew something was wrong that’s all. 77656ddd6ed48b87cddb49ea93db3891.jpg9b9d33c9085e1c6a4407f4572e2c142f.jpg

What a mess. Today in the garage I have been just changing oil. Nothing exciting to speak about.

Start soaking the ears that the ram attaches to at the block nuts with pb blaster now. They can get very stuck and frozen.
The seals are cheap, it gets pricey if the ram is knicked or scored.

Well I still have not ordered the parts to fix the steering on the boat. Been waiting for next weekend I guess. I been soaking the ends as suggested. However I did make a little investment on the boat last night. I got me some down riggers. Got a great deal on then they need a little work but all the replacements parts are very cheap. So we will get those up to speed for next year. I also inquired about a trolling motor installation and they quoted me 6900. Might have to look into installing this my self. They also recommended the largest one. The same one they put on the big Freeman’s. I don’t think I need one like that. But this is not Walmart batteries this is all top notch stuff. So I think I will just settle for a new fish finder next year and get all the other things done that I want done like redoing the trim tabs adding an electronics box for dry storage and getting a new fish finder radios and a epbir. And I need a tea bag. Tired of life jackets taking up storage space.

Good score on the down riggers!
The Rhodan s are great with the spot lock. Makes reef and wreck fishing so much easier.

Look up boattronics and international marine for some installs theyve done. Tony at boattronics has done batteries in a cooler for a few people with smaller boat and does phenomenal wiring work.

Yea I know tony and he has done work for me before on an other boat. He is the one that gave me the price. He does quality work and uses quality parts. But sometimes we don’t need the best. We just need stuff that works. We will have to wait and see. Since that’s the price for now I am going to wait a little bit and finish the trim tab tune up. Get the fishing finder and I need an electronics box and tea bag and make the trailer a little better. So all in due time I guess. I got the one down rigger working already. The gear on the clutch was in wrong. So now they both work. Hear king king king. Got the rebuild kit coming for the steering. Might tear her apart tomorrow and if I need to try to rent a puller for autozone before buying the one designed for this job. Should work I hope. After this job hopefully I can get some good use out of her. It being fall time for the sheep’s head. Also I need to finish my shed. I need to save a little coin for an upcoming family trip over seas this Christmas. I have been to the Philippines many time over the last few years but the wife has not been. So her whole family is headed home this Christmas so we are following suit also.

I just been fine tuning this HPDI. I changed the poppet valve today and the thermostats. The new spring for the valve was a 1/2 inch longer. I think that was the original spring. Also the thermostat was stuck open. Might have something todo with my plug fouling. Also after doing that and the motor warmed up I had to readjust the idle because it was way high. This motor has a ton of power just annoying to get everything correct on it.

I have been running this motor for hours sitting on the hose waiting to see if the plugs foul. So far so good. So now I have the lower unit to do and the VST and the filter after that. That should cover me for the annual maintenance and tune up. I think I have it. Not quit positive yet because I thought I had so many times before. I might take it out next weekend for some inshore fishing. Now I am making a list of boat things that need done for next season. Once the weather breaks this spring I want to be on this boat most weekends this year. The goal is 200 plus hours of running it this year. Need to learn this offshore fishing. Truck needs a little maintenance as well. Fyi the shed is still a mess.

So now since I think I have then it running good I been screwing with the old harley. I have a 01 super glide. I have had this bike since 06. To tell you all the truth I don’t understand why people say these bikes are so unreliable. I have left it sit now for about two years. And after running two tanks of ethanol free gas through it and some redline fuel system treatment she is back to running like new again. I adjusted some ignition stuff on it a few month ago and have had a hard time getting it idle but now she is all back. Now I guess to clean her up and make it look new as well. 57000 miles and still going strong. I need to buy a bigger bike but this one will have to do for a little while.

As I sit hear watching my jags get beat at home in England I am thinking that I will clean out the garage today. The wife has been making it into her space and I am going to reclaim this space. I let her have the storage tots but leave the other space alone. But after watching for a doubtful come back I will get out there and after it.

I hear you on reclaiming the garage. I evicted my wife from the garage. Well, the washer and dryer but car still goes inside. You should get a TV set up in the garage. I usually just listen to the music channel because sometimes get watching the game or race and grab a beer. Nothing gets done usually once I sit down.

I have a TV in the shed in the back yard. The garage is for car repairs and storage. This morning I walked out and she had placed an item in a corner. I moved it and placed it where her car goes. Nope honey this is not going to happen again. I gave up on trying to win in the house. But I am not going to give up on the garage and shed anymore. This week I have really got nothing done. I was going to go out and run that HPDI today on the boat but it was cold and windy so I decided to pass today maybe tomorrow. Been riding the bike some and it’s running great. Still want a bigger one but still waiting. Like being debt free right now and trying to save a little to get the daughter a little civic or something.

Great freakin news. This HPDI is dialed in. It’s so smooth at idle and all the way up to full throttle. This is a nice motor finally. I knew it would take some time to work the bugs out of it I just did not know it was going to be so painful. Any ways took the boat fishing today in the good ole saint johns River. Caught black drum and yellow mouth. Kinda a slow day but never the less had a good day fishing. Got to get the boat cleaned a little and some wax on her. Sure I will clean up some tomorrow.

So i been studying for my job and I have not been doing much at work. Anyways I got the bracket on my stripped and sand blasted. Got it ready to paint. Going to wait for it to warm up a little before I paint it. So while i am waiting for warmer weather. I bought some more rods and reels. I bought them used of course and they needed some work. So I learned how to tear them apart and repair them. It turned out to be an easy day the reels where full of normal grease instead of reel grease. So yea I been diddling lol. Next I want to learn how to put new eyes on the rods.

Check out mud hole tackle for rod wrapping supplies.
You can grab an old microwave and use the turntable motor for a dryer. Couple bungies and v blocks you’re good to go. I spiral wrapped a rod. It’s quite fun.

Hay thanks guys. Now on to some good news. I got the whole reel thing figured out. They are so easy to do and I can’t believe they are charging 35 bucks just for a grease job. Takes me about an hour to do one. But the new ones I bought not working correctly had car grease in them and funny things put in the wrong spots. Now I got them all ready to go. I will look into the rod supply store to get the rods up to speed. Now for finding the fish. I have a Furuno gps and an other unit for a fish finder. They worked for the first year but after having a Humminbird side imaging unit I was really having a hard time with these two units. Well that’s all gone now. I went out after thanksgiving and got my a Simrad go12 for 400 bucks off. This thing is light years ahead of what came off and about 10 generations ahead of my old Humminbird off of my old boat. So I have an appointment with Boat Tronics on Jan for the install. Going to see if he can weld up my bracket as well. If not I will fill in the voids with jb weld and paint it my self. If he gives me a decent price I will have him repaint the whole bracket during the unit install. They are kinda a one stop shop. They are known to do really good work. After that I just have a trim tab selector valve to replace and some chains to replace and I am ready for the next year. I hope to get about 200 hours of run time on this motor this upcoming year. Other then that just getting things ready for my vacation and my tests I need to do at work.

That’s great to hear!
Tony does some pretty incredible work. I think you’ll be happy with him.

Love the simrad units, did you get a radar unit to go with it?

Nah I don’t need radar. I normally can see the weather and zig zag on in. I know I will screw myself one day but such is life I guess.

Any way. I have been really busy at work studying for a required board and test. So that’s been screwing up my off time. However, that has not been stopping me from hitting up the ebay and amazon for parts. I got about everything I need here when I get back from vacation for the boat being brought up to speed. New tires needed seals trim tab selector valves filters for the motor and other odds and ends. I am hoping for a lot of money going to fishing gas this year.

Also, I got the cab mounts for the truck. After 13 years the mounts are shot and I will be changing them shortly as well.

Got to do the daughters brakes tomorrow get back to studying.

I had the chance to go the Philippines for the holidays. I have not been back since 2013 and 2005 with the wife. What a great had by all. I got to see some amazing car repairs there as well. Taking bent valves and repairing them. Every penny there needs to be saved. I am home back to dealing with things around here. Installing a fish finder today and I hope to do the cab mounts on the f-350 tomorrow.

Today I spent all day doing trailer repairs on the boat. I am a little embarrassed to say but they where in very ruff shape. 6 out of the 8 where bad. I got them all fixed up and greased and now to change the tires. I look forward to finishing up this boat project and start using it.

Hope you had a great holiday!

Those Simrad machines are great.
Check to see if it has the color block feature. You can turn the gain up, and then eliminate the colors that are just noise to get a great picture of the bottom and any bait or target fish.

What kind of transducer do you have on the boat?

Trailers are always neglected until something breaks. Good to get it fixed up now so no headaches when it’s in use.
