21 can lights in 16x20

My electrician thought I was nuts. 21 old school can lights in 16x20 area with 8ft ceilings. 60 watt waveform bulbs (CRI 95 high R9) at 4,000 Kelvin. It’s perfect.



The rest of the shop will have similar luminosity with a mixture of waveform bulbs and strip lights and puck lights in a few areas.

^^^ I know. at the volunteer warehouse that I'm involved in, we got funds donated to upgrade the lighting, we went with LED and lots of them. the total draw is about 550 watts

That’s going to be a great place to work. Have you used Waveform stuff before? I want to put some of their tubes in my new shop. I love high cri lighting.

Not used it prior to this but I am really happy with the result. I used to be into photography as a serious amature (considered going pro at one point; more into videography for travel) and can recognize good light. Bad light irritates me.

I also might start youtubing (mostly gardening but maybe homesteading, solar, wood working) and wanted good light for that. So I rolled the dice and it's turned out well.

I have some of their tubes too. Haven't installed them yet. I need a lift to get that done as well as paint the spray foam on the ceiling. They will be installed underneath my trusses in the larger bay (which is 28x36 with trusses at 4ft centers, 16 ft sidewalls).

I have 18 in my 500 sq ft basement family room. Same deal, electrician thought I was nuts. Two zones, two dimmers. Perfect. Crank them up for cleaning day, otherwise they are turned down a bit. LED bulbs get dim over time, so it's wise to put in more than you need.

I put 12 in the room to the right of the one picture above which will be my office. That one has a dimmer.

The one picture is destined to be most of my wood shop area with the big equipment overflow (planer, jointer, or a Minimax planer/jointer combo and maybe an edge sander) in the main bay. I need 20 feet more of shop to get everything in it I want lol.

That must be awesome for working under. I wanted as high as possible CRI in my shop but once I was shopping couldn't justify the huge cost jump over the mid 80s CRI led tubes to go up to something higher. They are ok, but not near as nice as your setup.

Yeah, I'm already planning on two 20 ft containers to be placed on sonotube piers on this other side of this apron, with the floors roughly even with the pad. One with get insulated and a minisplit installed. More, storage more storage, more storage, more organization, more storage. Been living out of boxes for 25 years (military and then overseas).

Six inch (I think) pipe bought from a local guy that buys reject pipe from various mills. I think we cut em at eight feet. At least 36 inch in the ground (don’t remember for sure) and then six inches of concrete. We also filled them with concrete and put a little dome on them.

They were cut for final height using a grading laser but a string level would have worked too.

I’ll clean them off and paint them with black rustoleum can paint.
