2135timax lacking power

Hey guys,

I have recently purchased a used 2135tiMAX.

I have used it numerous times without a problem, but yesterday when I was trying to take off my pickup's tires, it would not remove any of the bolts.

My compressor was strong enough, air supply was good, but I just wasn't getting any real torque from the gun.

Anybody know anything I could try?

Whats your compressor rated to put out? Is there an air dryer on it? Has the impact been lubed recently?

The compressor is a gas-powered emglo that puts out about 11CFM @ 90PSI.

There is no air dryer on the compressor.

I normally just put a few drops of oil in the gun each time before I use it.

Does it sound different than normal? Any quieter or slower? Try plugging another air tool in your line and see if it too is not running up to full power.

It didn't sound or feel any different, which was the weird part. And it was not slower either.

Maybe someone put the lug nuts on with an AirCat.

Had a problem real close to what you describe on my buddies' compressor setup. Poor performance from his air impact and we soon figured out that all his air tools were low on power. So we looked to the compressor and air hose. Turns out after removing the quick connect coupler at the end of the air hose that plugs into the tool we found rust particles partially obstructing the air passage in the fitting.

Swapped couplers and blew out the hose and that fixed it.

Oh okay! Thanks for all the replies guys! My hose is always in the bed of my truck so I wouldn't be surprised if it has rust in there somewhere. I will check that out and let you know. Thanks again!

Is 90 PSI your compressors max rating, or just where they indicate the CFM at? We have 170 PSI at the shop i work at. Air tools power through just about anything. When i go home to my 125 PSI setup it leaves some to be desired, especially with cut off wheels/grinding.

Just some food for thought.

My max PSI is around 150PSI but I guess since the tool is recommended to be used at 90, I never really went any further. Regardless, it was working fine at 90 for a while now.

90 psi at the compressor will not give you 90 at the tool while it is running. When we test tools we set the pressure at 90 psi at the inlet of the tool while it is running free speed. What is the size of your hose and length and how many quick disconnects? If you have 90 psi static at the compressor you may end up with 60 at the tool while it is running.

Wow Marlin, that's a really great point. I never knew that or thought about that! So you run the tool, and while it's run, you make sure there is 90PSI AT THE TOOL?

My hose is a 50FT long 3/8" hose, with quick disconnects at both ends of the hose.

Check the case screws I've seen them lack power if those loosen up just a bit. It also may just be time for a rebuild.

What model? When not on a bolt it just blows air? But when on a bolt it impacts but not well?

Isn't the exhaust silencer essentially a glorified piece of sponge?

IR 2135TImax doesn't have an exhaust silencer. Now maybe the quiet version but not the regular.

Resurrecting an older thread.
I acquired one of these guns with a broken anvil. I have a new anvil and would like to tear the gun down, clean it up and re-assemble it. Is there a guide as to what and where to grease it on re-assembly?
The metal end cone with the hammers is quite gummed up.

Remove the four T25 screws and the hammer case should fall right off. Then clean the mechanism thoroughly and pack some grease in there. You won't need to grease anything else.
