220 Amp Capacity Question

Hey Gang,

I have a 220v service into my garage. Each line into the 220 has a 20 amp fuse in the box.

Question. Is the Amp rating on the 220 service then 40 amps (20 combined) or 20 amps?

It's 20 amps @ 240V. And so you know it's 120/240V. 110/220V is old voltage from years gone by.

You do not double it the 20 amp rating is just that, 20A. And as said above, 110/220 do not exist anymore 120/240V is the normal voltage today.

A better word might be "nominal". + 10%

Basically.... You get 20 amps of capacity at 240 volts. If your running 120 V loads, you have two 20 amp capacity lines to supply power.
