220 circuit- multiple outlets ok?

This may be a simple, non-controversial question. I hope.

I'm planning circuits for my tiny shop, and want to have multiple locations for 220. My experience has been that every 220 outlet is a dedicated circuit- is this a code requirement? I'm not looking to use multiple 220 appliances simultaneously.

Can I wire 3 (more?) 220 outlets on one breaker, or do I need a separate breaker for each one?

Not sure of codes there in CA, but you'll be fine. I just wired a couple of 220's in my garage: one up high for the heater, and one down low for a welder. I just have to turn off the heater while welding, since it is a single 30A circuit.
