Sry if this is a repost I searched and didnt find anything that really answered the question.

Im 24 and the wife and I got a house built last July. I wanting to get into welding but the house isnt equipped for it. Im looking at hiring a contractor for it just was kind of hoping for a heads up one what type of cost this would be. I know it will vary contractor to contractor just looking for a ballpark. Also I have just a standard bulb in the middle of the garage (unacceptable!) so from reading on here I gather T8? lights are what I want. Will I need to upgrade the wiring for these? Im not looking for a shortcut, I want it done 100% correct. Shortcuts always cost you in the end, I would rather pay the money once. Thanks guys I enjoy learning from you all daily.

I ran 240V to my garage myself in a trench, total distance about 75'. The cost of the cable was the biggest expense at right about $500.00 (3/3 Aluminium direct burial).

If I include the rental of the ditch witch, the panel, the conduit up the side of the house & garage, breakers, Hammer drill & coring bit rental, it's right up around $900.00

You can probably do much of it yourself (ditching, backfilling, drilling, buying materials, etc), and leave the hookup to an electrician to save a bit on his labor cost.

Is this an attached or detached garage?

Before I built my garage I welded with my kitchen stove outlet and a homemade 50' extension cord.

Tell the wife your welder outlet doubles as an "electric car charging station" and your house will be greener. :D

With assuming the garage is attached there are still too many unknowns to give you a good answer. If the one light is on a circuit with other lights then you may need a new circuit for the T8's. You may need a sub-panel in the garage or if you have the space in the main-panel you may be able to come from it with some new circuits to the garage. Depending on how it needs to be done the price can go from a few hundred dollars to over a thousand or more.

We can't ball park it from here but if you are in Fort Worth it's likely you can't get a permit to run your own feed to the garage. Grew up there and even in the 80s the inspectors were pretty hard ***. You will just have to make some calls if you don't have the expertise to fly under the radar. You could probably do some of the dirt work to save $.

As for the T8s, you can hang plenty off one 15A circuit. Figure 1A or less per 4' two bulb fixture, so 8-10 lights is no big deal as far as load goes.

I'll mention a few things that'll affect the price:

Is there a panel in the garage close by? Does it have any more spaces?

Are the walls finished or open studs? Will the wiring be concealed or in exposed conduit?

Yes the panel is nearby and the walls are finished. I dont mind if its exposed.
