220 Generator plug

I want to temporarily run my new lift off my Generac 7700 generator. 220 twist plug and has the right amperage. However its a 4 prong. What is the best way to wire a 4 prong twist plug when not using a neutral? just not use a neutral wire or use 10/3 romex and wire nut the neutral. Thinking for a little extra cost the 10/3 could be used in other temp situations if needed in the future. does it not matter?

what about 10/4 soow cable and then you have it for other temporary situations? just don't use the neutral in this case

Use a standard gen 10/4 extension cord and wire a 10/3 cord without a neutral and 14-30 plug on the lift.

NM-b wire is not meant or permitted to be used as temporary wiring.

use cordage instead. 10/4 would be ideal since you could also use it for other generator purposes...

guess i got the dummy at the big box this day. I don't have much generator use under my belt so did not know they had specificl cables already. Think i will get the plug and play one and an outlet but just not wire in a neutral at the lift. This is just to make sure it works and to bleed the hydro so that should be fine.

I have another question. If i want to have a welder plug on my lift column after i do permanent wiring and the amps are the same (30a), is there a right way to do this or just add a box with a plug and wire it in between supply and lift? I won't ever be cycling the lift when using the welder so this is acceptable?

I'd use an RV adapter from the twist 4 to either a twist 30A or an RV type 30A. Then build your cord.

I have a welder recept on mine. 10/30 circuit. But,, you don't have any power in garage?
But,,, a plug goes on the appliance, you wire in a recept.

No power yet. I got a generator cord with a generator female plug box so I could cycle my lift and make sure everything worked. That’s all set.
My question on the welder plug is how it’s supposed to be wired. I will be bringing power down from the ceiling to a stop switch in a box as an emergency power cut then to another box with a welder plug and the connection to the lift motor. Can I put both the power supply and lift motor wires under the screws for the welder plug?

or just get your self some L14-30P some SOOW wire, and what ever the Receptacle on other end of the 240V plug L6 (240V) or L5 (120V)s?
