I just bought a Zeny Cut 50 plasma cutter and the power cord for it comes without a plug, it needs to be end user supplied.

I have this Leviton 50A-125/250V (NEMA 10-50P ?) plug in my garage and this is what the panel nearby looks like (see pics). I figure the cutter has a max. 8' cord on it that I will need to add the plug on to.

Ideally I'd like to have the plasma cutter be about 10-15' further out in the shop. Is it possible to safely wire this without breaking the bank? I'm pretty much a noob at electrical suff like this.

It seems like a home built extension cord with a NEMA 10-50P plug on the end to go in to the socket and either another male/female NEMA 10-50P pair of plugs (or another better male/female set on this end?) to hook to the cutter wiring would do the trick. What gauge/type of wire to use and a reasonable max. length for an extension cord? Can I buy this at Lowe's/HD or is this specialty electrical store stuff?

wall socket => NEMA 10-50P plug (male) => 10-15' of wire? => NEMA 10-50P plug (female) => NEMA 10-50P (male) => Zeny plasma cutter wiring

Or is there some discount wiring place I could just buy this from prebuilt?

Personally, I would open the case of the plasma cutter and install a new #6-3 SO cord of sufficient length and then use a 6-50P and a 6-50R because those are easy to find being a standard "oven plug".

something like this:
welder extension cord link

don't cheap out, do the right thing, do it once. Spend you money on the right thing but don't let cheap be the guide. If you do it wrong, you plasma cutter may not operate right.

This machine does not need a 6 cord. It may even come with a 12 and even if one was to upsize it is it really necessary to go up 3 sizes? It should get a 6-50 on it and a 2 conductor grounded circuit. 6-50 are not oven plugs, they however are common to welders. (2 pole 3 wire grounded)

NEMA 10-50r and p is the wrong attachment plug for 240v(220v hasnt been used in decades) equipment.

10-50 is 125/250v ungrounded.

As said above you should use a 6-50r and p which is 250v grounded.

You should change out the 10-50r for a 6-50r.

I would remove the existing SO cord on the plasma cutter and install a longer one with a 6-50p on the end.

Having multiple attachment plugs is just asking for trouble down the road.

You mean range? A range uses either a 10-50 or a 14-50...

as matt said, the best thing to do is open the cutter and replace the cord.
Barring that, I would put a 50A twist lock plug on it, then a twist lock female end on the extension cord.

.

Replace the short cord. Use strain relief. ( My Millermatic had a 33 ft primary.) Wire wall receptacles at either end of garage. ( A former employer even had a couple outside. Very handy.)

Extension cords take a beating. They hang up on everything too. I think SO was replaced by SOOW.
