Via that site

Max Inrush ( I1MAX ) Amps:
@110V: 33A
@220V: 36A

40Amp would be over the 80% load, I would go 50A breaker so then you could always get a bigger welder. 6-2 NM for the wire.

It hurt a lot. Think I need to see a physciatrist.

$700 for them to install pole and meter.

Showed the engineer the current box that i posted on here. He said I can install a 100 amp breaker and run wire to a sub panel like yall were recommending me. He said that would be what he would do.

It would be $125 for them to hook up power to my own pole and meter.

u would need bigger wire than #2 al as thats limited to 90a

depends in the input amps but most larger welders are 50a.

What is the difference between #1 and #2 aluminum wire

Can anyone pinpoint me to the exact wire I need via https://www.lowes.com/search?searchTerm=#2+aluminum+wire

Thanks

the difference is the ampacity. #2 is 90a and #1 is 100a

If u want 100a go with #1. U will need 4 wires- 1-1-1-6. The #6 needs to be green jacketed so #4 may be cheaper and easier to find as u can just tape the ends with green tape.

dont forget isolated neutral bar and ground bar kit as well as ground rods....

link doesnt work BTW

which of the above two would you pick? The 100 amp breaker to my shops subpanel will be around 100' or a little more..

Well if u want 100a then there is no choice.

#1 al is the minimum size for 100a...

If youre referring to the #1 vs #4, u need both as i pointed out. The #4 is for the EGC.

120' of it is $55 + $22 shipping

What my plan is later is run this line to the Cornbin house that I am planning to fix which is less than 20' from the service pole.

Going to do a 200 amp pole for the shop later since it cost so much right now and I will eventually put a woodshop in it

As to that 4 pole wide GE breaker, it is only a 2 pole 200A breaker, various manufacturers have made them, beginning in the 1970's w/ I-T-E (now Siemens), Cutler-Hammer, GE, & Square D, all have used them.

Square D Homeline breakers are not UL classified to be used in any competitive loadcenter make, they are only listed to be used in Homeline panels, so their use is a big red flag as shown above.

Circuit breakers are listed to be used in the same make of equipment, but UL does classify some breakers to be used in competitive makes, Eaton does have some that are but need the paperwork to prove it. Unless the breaker is obsolete, or the company changed hands, it's best to use OEM breakers, not a "will fit" breaker & there are a lot of ones that do physically fit across different makes.

Ok, so what is the point of that four pole wide breaker ?

i did the math and i dont think u ordered the right amount.

as said above u will need 3 lengths of #1

u can order it on separate spools.

total i got was $181.20 including 3 spools of #1 and 1 spool of #4.

Went with 200 amps

$175 to install power.
They gave me the meter box. I got the wire and pipe and weatherhead.

Theyre going to run a new line and replace and move the pole.

Just waiting on them now...I think I need to change the pipe that runs to weatherhead. I got the pipe probably 4' or so above the building; code says 3 1/2' but I got a coupling there..so I think I need to take that off and the other little pipe I added to it..because the long pipe itself from meter should be enough.

Dont know if the power company will change it.

what size breaker for this welder?

Up to 50A, its likely its a 12 wire machine but anything except 250 migs run legal on a 10 cable with 50A breaker. Even the best 250 mig only needs 6 wire with special gas, heavier gun, larger wire running spray process.

I should have added,,, this is for machines that come factory plug and cord.

There is no point in over wiring unless there are plans for a 250 mig. Other heavier machines require larger breakers, this makes it a circuit dedicated to that machine and the cord and plug units are limited to 50A

Not practical to make a 200A breaker that fits in two standard 1" slots. To much heat to deal with and most of that style breaker are the stab in type, two spaces just doesn't provide enough bus contact for that much current.

That style breaker is really just 100A breakers paralleled together, with the appropriate handle tie and common trip mechanism.
