I maybe getting a new house and Garage soon. The garage has no 220v outlets but I will need about 4 of them installed. Anybody have an idea of how much that would cost. What if I did the tunneling through the studs myself...would this cut down on the cost?

That many circuits you would probably be better off to put a sub panel in the garage and then branch off from it, unless your main box is already in your garage. Cost I could not help with as I am DIY kind of guy.

Detached or attached garage? How far from the main panel to the garage? It's pretty difficult to even hazard a guess without more information. As Milton said if you want to add multiple circuits, installing a subpanel may be a good idea.

Is it insulated? Dry walled? If so, I can't see how this "tunneling" would be done on a cost effective basis. Subpanel with surface conduit sounds pretty good. I would guess that you would pay an electrician $1500 for the outlets and more the more complicated things gets.

If you do all of the rough wiring, (drill all holes, mount sub panel and outlet boxes, pull wire from the main to the sub panel and then to each of the outlet boxes) and leave the "finish" to a certified electrician will save you the most money.

Discuss everything ahead of time with your electrician. He will tell you what kind of wire you need and spec out a sub panel, etc.
