Each of my outlets has a 4x4 box for the receptacles, fed by 12-2-2 for a separate circuit top/bottom. To the right of each is a 4x4 box with 1" smurf tube to the attic. Both sides use mud rings. This allows me to put whatever I want in the box in the future. :)

My welding receptacles are #10 50A for my Millermatic 252.

You know you are "that guy", right?

The kind of person that goes to a BBQ and rattles on and on about how the chicken must be exactly 165 degrees measured with a labratory calibrated thermometer.

We get it, no need to add it to every electrical thread.

If people would use the proper terminology, there'd be no need to correct it every time.

This is not a recent change, I believe the nominal voltage became 120/240 in the 1960's or 70's.

It's not you. I made the comment as a general observation. I don't think it's trivial.
(At least you have seen 220, unlike the others)

I just wired this summer three dedicated circuits for welding from the main panel in a garage. It was my first time taking off the electrical panel and wiring circuits. I asked alot of newbie questions on this form.

For a 50amp welding circuit I went with 6/2 Romex. There is an exemption for welders but I decided to use 6/2 even though I didn't have to. It was only a few feet from the panel and I got a good deal on some 6/2 Romex that was precut and half off at the hardware store. I ran it behind dry wall.

Nothing wrong with 6, its legal and as you noted was a short distance and the wire was economical. All good reasons to put in a heavy wire
The only time I advocate for the exemption is when the argument is made "you must" or that there is some great benefit when there isn't. Or even that there is a valid safety concern that hasn't occurred to the code people.
Electric welders were somewhat fundamental and the demands for many were the same for decades. Over the last 10 or 15 years and in some cases even less there have been improvements with distinct incentives to buy new modern equipment, a lot of it operating at 1/2 or less what it used to take. Can add a lot of stuff to existing wire, reduces the need for expanded service. I have seen some guys operate from 30A service in some hobby garages and manage fine. One had a 210 feeder, a 200 Dynasty and 2 hp comp for air with a 375 class plasma.

The 6/2 Romex is easy to work with but is expensive for long runs. If I had a long run I would consider running #6 THWN wire thru conduit. If I understand correctly the THWN wire runs cooler in conduit then in Romex.
