$23.86 for 10’ here in Atlanta at the supply house, $17 from Home Depot. Not sure about tripled, but definitely more expensive than it was 3 months ago.
Construction never slowed down here, and we’re the busiest we’ve ever been (commercial electrical contractor). Pricing has been creeping up and availability is actually becoming a problem for certain items we use. High demand and some supply chain hiccups are driving material costs up.

I stocked a little a month ago. I wonder if breakers are back in stock yet.
That's almost 30% difference from home depot to supply house.
I needed 270ft and just ordered it for delivery tomorrow from the supply house. I'm going to try and have them give me a credit to go towards the wire as that's like $180 difference.

Certain items are always cheaper at HD due to their national volume (Romex, some sizes/colors THHN, conduit, some fittings). On average though we usually spend a little more with Mayer vs HD because Mayer will deliver for free next day direct to our jobsites, HD delivery usually takes a few days, costs $80 and they won't (can't?) deliver to a large construction site due to the coordination hassle. Small jobs HD almost always wins on price.
Lately its been more of a game of who has it at all, not just who has the best pricing

Currently there is a PVC shortage. Major producers in Lousianna for the chemicals use to manufacturer PVC closed due to Laura and took almost a month to reopen (power, water, labor were all disrupted). Trucking and rail were also is a stae of dissaray for several weeks.
Now hurricane Delta may hit the same area, so don't expect prices to get better any time soon.

TrueSell prices for PVC pipe have doubled in the last 3 months. As of today, the supply houses are paying $17.60 for 2.5" sch 40.
When Home Depot buys, they buy alot, so they are still using their "buy" cost from a month or two ago and marking it up. The supply houses use today's cost as a base to mark up from, which is alot smarter.

In my experience, it's pretty common for THD or Amazon to be lower than supply houses for common items across many trades. Anyone who thinks pros don't buy from big box stores is out of touch with reality.
A few weeks ago I needed a Moen item that showed out of stock at Ferguson, so I ordered it from Amazon. Arrived the next day fulfilled by the very same Ferguson warehouse where we get most of our plumbing fixtures.

I recently had to buy 2-1/2” conduit. Home Depot out of stock on almost all conduit. Only had 1/2” and 3/4” in stock. Electric supply shop had the 2-1/2” conduit at $20 per stick.

This. Big time.
I work in Chemicals consulting and was just down at a PVC plant for the last month. They get there VCM (Vinyl Chloride Monomer ) which is the key chemical to the PVC reaction from Lake charles. While i was there they had a 2 week unplanned outage because they ran out of VCM. They just started back up again last week, and are expecting to go down again on monday from loss of supply.
If no one makes the PVC resin, it sure gets pricey.
My current problem is steel.....holy **** that is pricey right now.
why is there no one making these VCMs ? and you can't import ?
Lots of companies do make VCM. However, it is made in limited quantities as its a chlorine based process so it is hazardous. As such, it is not a simple task to just build some more VCM plants. The supply chain was developed with minimal excess capacity. Various PVC plants get their VCM from the different suppliers. The VCM plants have most of their product already spoken for with contracts to various users.
As a PVC plant if you get your supply from a certain section of the gulf coast and it gets hammered in such a way that your normally stable supply is cut off you are in a tough position. You can fight with $$$ to try to bring in supplies from elsewhere, but it is not easy. Remember that there is no excess capacity in the VCM market and the other suppliers already have contracts to provide their VCM to different PVC plants.
Hopefully that helped explain it.
Edit: If lake Charles became a historically unreliable place to get chemicals from, then people would import or have new facilities built etc as needed.
