Hello,

I searched and nothing helped, so here are the details:

Looking for 60 to 80 gallon compressor.

Just had a 230 line ran into my garage.

Main use hobby stuff, although I do have a blast cabinet I would like to use occasionally...

Would like to be around $800 or so. There seem to be a decent number of choices, here are some of the ones I have been considering:

Harbor Freight $799
Sears Craftsman Professional $549
Greg Smith Equipment $799
Tractor Supply has an Ingersoll Rand in my price range as does Home Depot and Lowes...

I am completely lost, thought I had a decision and was going to buy the Craftsman but there are some terrible reviews. I want to buy one tomorrow, the 230 line has been installed for two weeks already and i have tomorrow off from work.

Help

Thanks

So you have a 230 volt line run. What is the wire gauge and the breaker amperage? That is just as important as the voltage. Did you terminate the circuit at a plug or a disconnect switch? Also important information to know. If you don't know then a red compressor will do.

Also important is what you intend to do with said compressor and what CFM requirements your tools have.

Yes, need to know what amperage you are set up for. It makes a difference.

I would stay away from the C'man compressor, probably made to their el cheapo

specifications. Don't know about any of the others. Stick with a Quincy or any

of the bigger and older names if you can afford it. There are always good used

deals in CL, and the cheap for sale rags like Trader.

The electrician put a 30 amp breaker in for the compressor. The 230 is ran straight from the garage to the main panel and on its own 30 amp breaker. He put in a box in the garage, it has the one plug and then her has a wire ready with 3 ring terminal type connections, he said that will be wired directly to the compressor once I get one here.

I have a number of air tools, mainly auto repair type stuff, I work on old cars. Everything is hobbyist in nature though...I have three kids, so I sneak in the garage when I can but there is typically no situation where I am working a whole day or even 8 hours in there...

Does that help with what I need in a compressor? I was going to get a larger 120 compressor, but the reading I did on this forum pretty much lead me to believe I was better off getting the 230 ran into the garage rather than trying to find a larger more powerful 120 compressor.

Dangit, I don't think the link is working. Just go to Lowes.com and search for the Quincy that's $799. Looks like this:

OP . . . would help if you Update GJ profile with your location (ie City / State) as fellow GJer's could help in locating compressor on CL for you.

I'd bet within couple months, a very capable 60 gal compressor could be located. See the GJ thread (Craigslist Deals - - it's a Sticky thread under Hot Deals) as I just recently found Campbell Hausfeld (60 gal 5 HP) for $200 but it sold in couple days. Thus, you need to be ready to ACT QUICK. Thus, have a trailer and pickup ready for roadtrip run & retrieve CL score.

Nothing wrong with buying a used compressor in this class, as likely to outlast the normal DIY homeowner lifetime of use.
