This is my first post but have been a member for a few years. I would like to finally install an outlet for my hobart 180 mig welder. I was going to use a 30amp breaker with 10-2 wire. How long of a wire run can I go without having any voltage loss? Thanks in advance for the help.

You should be okay up to about 125 ft.

Edit: Oh you said no voltage loss. That would be about 2 feet. :D

A 10/30 is an ideal circuit for that machine and a 10 is 2 code sizes bigger than the minimum wire and a size heavier than the cord, as patten said,, a long way before its a worry.

I have a Hobart 190 on a 30 amp breaker on #10 copper, my run is probably 60-70 feet. I did a voltage drop calculation for mine and at my distance I have around 1% voltage drop @ 21 amps (what the Hobart 190 pulls at full load). Up to 3% voltage loss is generally considered fine, so with the similar welder load you could go up to around 170 feet on #10 and still be fine.

Thanks everyone for the imput. Usually when I have a question I use the search and can get my answer, but didn't have any luck with this one. My wire run is going to be around 40'. My panel is in the back corner of my 24x24 and I want the welder plug up front between the overhead doors. My garage is unfinished and want to be able to weld out in the driveway so I don't burn the place down.

I have this same welder, same #10 copper wire, 30 amp breaker, and my run is about the 80ft with six outlets. Has been working great for a couple years now.
