24' ceramic floor tile

I just heard from a friend about some 24" x 24' ceramic floor tile at a great price. Don't know yet about exact price but wanted to get some opinions on what forum members thought of this size.

From what I have read here I think this type of tile might work for me, I just don't know about the 24' size. I wonder if they might be more fragile than a 12" tile.

Once they are installed, no different as far as cracking.

Installation is a little more involved. If your floor is not perfectly flat, it does make it harder if there are ups and downs. Also, make sure you use a larger notched trowel, a 1/2" x 1/2" would be ideal. You want to make sure you have good coverage under the tile.

I know a guy that had 24" ceramic in his garage and pulled it all up. Replaced it with 24" marble! Polished / matte to create a checkerboard effect.

Oh- did I mention it's a 2 story, 6,000 sq. ft. garage

I always thought that porcelain was a better tile to use in a garage because it is harder. (?)

Porelain is definately more durable. There are some ceramics that are suitable, but porcelain overall is stronger and has a better glazing.

Hmmm. I guess if he could afford marble on a 6,000 sq. ft. garage, it wouldn't matter if ceramic was good or not. He wanted better.

I did install 18 x 18 porcelien tile in my garage, floor was not perfectly flat used Ardex feather edge on some of the bad spots. Installation is KEY, back butter every single tile, used 1/2" trowel. It does not get heavy use however it is not light use either. In doing all my research i was told if installed correctly I can drive a fork lift on it!

I have had zero problems! I used an epoxy grout (very expensive) but worth every penny!

Not sure if I would use it in my fully detached garage I will be building soon, maybe in the the secondary rooms but not in the main section were I will have a car and motorcyle lift.. Just my .02 cents...
